What colours do I use?

I desperately need help with choosing colours for my decor!!
We have an everyday living room with charcoal carpets and grey sofas - as in the photos the top are light and dark grey striped, with solid grey at the bottom. We have stark white walls in this room.
My question is what accent colour/s do I use? I started going down the teal track and bought cushions in this colouring, but now am second guessing myself. My husband likes red, but I feel like red is 'been there, done that'.
Someone has suggested use teal and mustard together, but the thought of mustard terrifies me. I'm a purple/blue/teal/soft green kind of girl - help!! What colours do I use, and without scaring poor hubby?

Kommentare (2)I would hang a large textile such as Moroccan bedspread, sheer drapery, or other fabric that you feel enhances meditation on the wall. This will also absorb sound and make the area quieter. Kommentare (6)The pillowcase gives you a good impression. For me light colours do not work as good as darker ones. The petrol (right corner) would be great. But what colour does the girls love? If it is pink you go for a darker one or purple. And it is always best to test the look first. So buy just a small sample of the colour and try. Kommentare (5)I´ve read that article as well and think your statement is absolutely right: the meaning - or maybe better - the worth of correct lighting seems to be underestimatet. Clients often rather invest in design of a certain lamp than in quality of light. Another interesting fact you mentioned is the choice of surface in accordance to LED-lighting to minimize reflections. - Easy to understand but seemingly often forgotten. When we built our new home, my wish was a complete, in parts dimmable LED lighting system, that we realized in collaboration with a lighting designer. - So some of your aspects were already base of our working together. And although it looks rather technically (what I love indeed) it´s able to create both: warm light in the evening whilst sittig together with friends and family and a clear bright light for (e.g.) working or cooking. But apart of my own "homemade" experiences, I think it is a stunning service you offer clients by visiting all these projects at the fair and assess them under the specific criteria of correct lighting. Kommentare (25)Hi Nicola, thank you so so much. Its just so nice. So pretty. The good thing is its not a mind bender. I was already thinking something on the lines. But the elements had to fit together. And now it looks they do. What I had not thought at all is the upholstery thing. It’s so nice. Even if I cannot do uphostry , I have gotten the idea now. I would somehow make the back of shelves and the heastbound side of bed same or coordinated, in order to make it kind of cozy niche corner as you have nicely put it. For shelves I was thinking to use a single piece or may a two pieces of 4x4 shelves like IKEA Kalax to creat a kind of partition of about 120 cm As I said I was thinking of similar things but as it comes from an expert I feel very happy. One more thing. For the colors would you recommend the ones I see already in the Sketsch??? Secondly, for the floor in the second / Upper room i was thinking of using small rugs in different colors witha kind of collage ( the pupose being easy maintainece, as a bigger carpet has to be send for professional carpet cleaners or need carpet cleaning machine). Small rugs if one is spoiled is easier to replace , which not easy in case of a bigger one that is wall to wall and heavy. Small rugs are easy to clean an rearrange. Of course under that I can add a light floor matt under these rugs to hold them together.( In both cases what colors , should be good. I mean if I add one piece carpet that would be almost half of the room, which colors should I take) or do you think it will make the rather smaller place look too busy and I should go for a full size carpet? Chee Soon & Fitzgerald have amazing fabrics and cushions as other decorator ideas. The post over seas - if you get the cover sent over and buy an insert in NZ, it's only about $15 in postage for two. Just called them and they said they have sent stuff over the Tasman many times!

Unfortunately I'm not a sewer but wish I was - in saying that I'm sure my mother in law could help, I'm definitely keen to try and visit some fabric stores.
I never thought of yellow, I don't mind soft lemon but anything else from that, it would definitely take me a while to adjust.
I absolutely LOVE our sofas, but I feel having the stripe in them is limiting us on what we can use on them.
The interior designer who came over mentioned because of the stripes we should steer clear of satin/sheer material cushions, and bold patterns - does everyone think the same? We have Trademe here in NZ and been checking out what cushions they have - here's a selection of ones I like the look of! Loving the 'duck egg' colour, which complimentary colour would work with the duck egg?

As you can see, yellow can come in a variety of intensities. All of these will go with the stripes. Using turquoise w/gray is rare; it requires a certain intensity. vor 10 JahrenDon't be afraid of purple. It will look fabulous with the grey. Classic color scheme and always go where your heart tells you! Grey and yellow is very nice but why be safe, go for the gusto! You don't want to do solid pillows, pattern on the stripe will make things more interesting. I like the look of the large pattern pillow but if you are more of a floral person do a combination of the floral and the solid ones. Also don't be afraid to add an area rug to the room to bring some more of your color in and to cover some of the boring charcoal carpet. It gives you a great layered look which is more of a designer look. Be sure to add a few accessories in other places in the room in your new accent color so that all the color is not just concentrated in the sofa area.

Hubby likes it, and the interior designer we had come over suggested a shaggy rug would work best. I'm thinking a pattern rug like in the other image, would be better!! Thoughts??

I keep coming back to a teal/turquoise colour (it's one of my favourite colours!!), I love blues, purples, teal/turquoise - many on here have suggested yellow but I'm really not sure about it. Here in New Zealand we're in Autumn, nearing Winter so uncertain about the yellow.
I found these cushions that I've fallen in love it, and wondering how I could make these work.. do I try teal and mustard together, as an interior designer suggested?
