Fresh Start was an outstanding partner for our home remodel. Ben and his team impressed us from start to finish. Their professionalism, execution, and problem solving throughout our project was first-rate. We went down almost to the studs and added a 3rd floor - no small project! The team worked seamlessly with our architect and was highly responsive when any concerns came up. They handled a cabinet issue, which was not their fault, quickly and ensured we could see through our original vision. We were so grateful and it is also illustrative of their professionalism and experience. Mark (our project manager) and his team worked hard to keep us on schedule (and even finished the project two weeks early!). We highly recommend Fresh Start to anyone considering a remodel!!

It can be really hard to find a contractor that you genuinely can trust. We were very impressed with the level of integrity and consideration we were given throughout our project. The scope of our project was absolutely gigantic, so there was definitely challenges that came up. Working with someone we knew would keep their word and work with us to bring the project to completion meant the world to us. We were left with a fully gutted and remodeled home that we absolutely adore!

Fresh Start was amazing from the beginning! I ended up pivoting my project to a completely different part of my house and they were very accommodating. Fresh Start just finished a major renovation of our second (attic) floor in our Jamaica Plain (Boston) condo. They added two big shed dormers which allowed us to have a second living room like flex space, a master bedroom, a much bigger bathroom, and a new laundry room. The space is bright, has a lot of windows and a few skylights. We could not be happier with the end result. Nick was super responsive in the planning stages (which took a long time as we had to go through the full city approval process) and once we finally got started, our project manager, Tom, was also amazing (always communicative, quick to respond to any issues that arose, Professional, and just generally very friendly and helpful). Our site manager, Sam was equally amazing. Fresh Start is so organized and simply lovely to work with. We highly recommend them for big projects like ours and we look forward to working with them again on future projects should we need!

We first hired Fresh Start about 7 years ago to remodel our basement. They did an excellent job. We get so many compliments! (Shout out to our designer as well, Melissa Hammond Design). We went straight to Fresh Start when we wanted to remodel our bathroom last year. It was a big job because we wanted to move the plumbing requiring a soffit in our kitchen. The soffit looks seamless. We also needed to change the windows requiring additional construction inside and out. Their work is top-notch and they are very responsive if any issues arise. I highly recommend working with Fresh Start.

I have hired Fresh Start Contracting a handful of times now and what always keeps me coming back to them is their responsiveness, professionalism and their craftsmanship. I had a pipe burst back in 2020 that caused severe damage to my newly purchased home. The Project Manager along with many carpenters worked seamlessly to give me exactly what their company name entails, a "Fresh Start". I highly recommend them to anyone needing to renovate, update or completely redesign their home. You will not be disappointed.

We did a full gut-renovation with Fresh Start, taking our 1890s Somerville home down to the studs and rebuilding everything except the roof. Fresh Start was professional and timely. It was a challenging year, with work stopped by the city during COVID and supply chain issues, but despite that, they stayed on budget and on schedule, and were able to handle a lot of added work/scope that we decided on after the project was started. We had no major problems and minor ones were worked out smoothly and reasonably. Our project manager Tom and site manager George were both great and worked hard to help us get what we wanted from the renovation. All sub-contractors were generally on site when scheduled and all their estimates from the initial bid were spot on. Workmanship was excellent. Everyone from the owner Ben down through contractors were very responsive to phone calls, texts, or emails. Overall, the results were fantastic and 2 years later we're still loving our new-old house and glad we took on the project. We would work with Fresh Start again in the future and recommend them for any sized renovation project.

We engaged Fresh Start to renovate a significant portion of our house, a complete gut of perhaps 25% of the area including the installation of a new bathroom where there was no existing plumbing, reinforcement of the structure, and new HVAC for the affected floor. The house is from the late 1800s and our design called for some unusual framing in the Mansard roof, so structural engineers also had to be consulted. Overall it is not an enormous job but I think it was complex for its size and we had very detailed designs for both the function and the finish of the space. We had a good experience with Fresh Start more or less from start to finish. We liked the detailed estimate they provided, and Ben was patient enough to go back and forth with us several times as we trimmed bits and pieces and questioned others in order to end up with a project we could afford. Transparency of billing was also great, with punctual weekly invoices and prompt responses any time I asked what some particular line item was for. Change orders were transparent and clearly explained, and we came in within the overall budget. We collectively did not get the schedule right, but the supply chain snarls were real and outside our collective control, so I think it was a reasonable estimate of the time it would take under historical conditions. We had a great time with our project manager, Tom, with whom we'd certainly want to work again if we get around to the second bathroom any time soon. He handled communications promptly, and it was clear that he took responsibility for everything happening on the project. He was also flexible about us handling some of the ancillary subs (our long-time roofer, for instance) or sourcing fixtures and finishes ourselves. I think he also did a good job setting the pace, since at times we needed either more time to make a decision or to be helped along. The quality of the work was quite good both by Fresh Start's guys and their subs. It felt like they all had nice rapport with one another and worked well together. The bathroom came out looking amazing, so kudos to the whole team. The only sub I would ding were the window guys. I'm not sure who they were but they definitely could have installed them straighter. Not a huge deal on the scale of things. Overall we would recommend Fresh Start for a project like this due to their organized back-office, willingness to work flexibly, quality of work, and having the patience required to communicate and hit our detailed design.

Fresh Start did a gut renovation of our house and a conversion from two-family to single-family. They were fantastic. We found them to be consistently organized, planful, and on top of all of the details. It was such a contrast to what others had led me to expect from a general contracting company. They stayed on top of the process, carefully monitoring our budget and proactively planning so as to keep us on or ahead of schedule. The quality of their work was excellent. Our project manager, site supervisor, and others we interacted with were also lovely human beings to work with.
