Mediterrasian LandscapesThis creative couple wanted their backyard divided into several spaces for multiple uses. Nearest the house is a concrete patio for lounging and entertaining. The middle area has raised beds for vegetable gardening and rounded pea gravel where their toddler can play safely. A lovely dry creek bed with river rocks and plants divides that area from the rear section. There you will find a metal sculptor's shed and a paver patio that surrounds the lemon tree, providing access to plant beds and a viewing area for whimsical, homemade sculptures.
Maine Porch & Pergola CompanyThe Torii gate is actually the arbor structure (and not the swinging gate inside the arbor). This project utilized clear Western Red Cedar for the fence and arbor, and ipe (also known as Brazilian Walnut) for the swinging gate. The swinging gate is constructed using mortise & tenon joinery.

California WaterscapesWelcome to our design space at the Pasadena Showcase House of Design. This “oasis” features a beautiful collection of koi fish, gracefully swimming in a 5’x8’ pond.
Our modern, clean-cut paver patio is customized to intertwine with large seating boulders. By bringing the pathway right to the edge of the pond, we showcase our favorite cantilever effect. Softening the design, California-friendly plants and a stunning live plant wall surrounds the area, while lights can be seen hanging from the trees, extending the ambiance into the evening hours.
Donohoe Living LandscapesThe landscape design for this private residence brings together a diverse array of elements to create an ethereal, multi-sensory experience where sound, movement, colour and scent are simultaneously evoked. Shielded by a forty foot hedge, the site challenged us to create an exterior, yet interior, world where Asian and Western influences intersect. In honouring the traditions of Feng Shui, the retaining wall does not sit directly on the entrance. Meditation pathways lead to areas of retreat and socialization (including an outdoor fire, a restored pool and covered seating area). An ergonomic garden and potting station lined with fruit trees allows the client to grow her own plants and vegetables. A multi-leveled water feature is framed with lush camellias and peonies; the landscape is lined with evergreens and decorated with Chinese basalt and local granite. The multi-sensory design comes to life in the grove of Shirofugen cherry trees as it sheds its petals to the music of a custom Corten steel wind chime sculpture made by English artist David Harber. A weather station was placed on site for a month to determine the weight of the chimes—each one set to the pentatonic scale. This is a space where our clients can grow and evolve their lives with the seasons.
Elite Horticulture ServicesThis is a smaller backyard that we designed and installed out in North Bend. While it is not a true Japanese garden, we tried to incorporate some of the same themes. It is designed to be low maintenance with an emphasis on drainage to due the wetness of the backyard.
