Boston Pied a Terre
A city home for a professional couple was transformed from a tired brownstone to a chic, urban escape.
As in many small spaces, this room had to function in a variety of ways. As a hallway this space is passed through to enter the home. It serves as a home office with a built-in desk (in niche), as well as a cozy space to watch TV. Hallway circulation was maintained with a shallow, L-shaped sofa and a pair of small sculptural stools rather than a larger cocktail table. The wall behind the sofa was upholstered with rich, grey ultra-suede. No artwork required here as the patterns made by brushing the suede tell a daily story. An upholstered desk chair can easily turn to face the sofa for additional seating. A cow hide rug, found by the homeowner while traveling, compliments the room perfectly.
