This terraced landscape in Vermont flows from a high perch on a contemporary home’s second story viewing deck through a grassy play space with a fire pit terrace, past mown fields to a swimming pond with “Lake House" and on through a wet meadow to a beaver pond beyond. Here behind the house, four Adirondack chairs are gathered around a fire pit terrace of Goshen stone. Low shrubs and colorful perennials hug the top of a retaining wall that drops off toward a view of the pond and beaver meadow in the distance. A number of trees from the property were thoughtfully culled, giving space to some of the largest and most beautiful, to preserve animal habitat and frame views.

We created this natural movement pathway from the front entry to the side gate. The pads are stained concrete and we made them in random sizes to create an organic pattern.
A Backyard Resort with a freeform saltwater pool as the focal point, a spa provides a spot to relax. A large raised waterfall spills into the pool, appearing to flow from the koi pond above. We extended a streambed to flow from behind the outdoor kitchen, all the way to the patio, to spill into the koi pond. A Sports Court at one end of the yard with putting greens meander throughout the landscape and the water features. A curved outdoor kitchen with a large Viking grill with a warming drawer to the sink and outdoor refrigeration. A Pavilion with large roof and columns unite the landscape with the home while creating an outdoor living room with a stone fireplace along the back wall, while still allowing views of the yard beyond.

Tulips and pansies provide early spring color to raised bed containers constructed with M-Brace brackets for added interest. In the summer, the owner plants two of the beds with vegetables (all of the sun on the property is in the front yard).

This glowing, colorful Magic front garden was once a lawn with a Dwarf Alberta Spruce. Now full of drought tolerant perennials, spiral stone paths, and no lawn at all!
