Fawn Renae DesignsMy clients knew their house didn't match their modern Scandinavian style. Located in South Charlotte in an older, well-established community, Sara and Ash had big dreams for their home. During our virtual consultation, I learned a lot about this couple and their style. Ash is a woodworker and business owner; Sara is a realtor so they needed help pulling a vision together to combine their styles. We looked over their Pinterest boards where I began to envision their mid-century, meets modern, meets Scandinavian, meets Japanese garden, meets Monterey style. I told you I love making each exterior unique to each homeowner!

The backyard was top priority for this family of 4 with a big wish-list. Sara and Ash were looking for a she-shed for Sara’s Peleton workouts, a fire pit area to hangout, and a fun and functional space that was golden doodle-friendly. They also envisioned a custom tree house that Ash would create for their 3-year-old, and an artificial soccer field to burn some energy off. I gave them a vision for the back sunroom area that would be converted into the woodworking shop for Ash to spend time perfecting his craft.

This landscape is very low-maintenance with the rock details, evergreens, and ornamental grasses. My favorite feature is the pops of black river rock that contrasts with the white rock

The new building will form a boathouse-style shelter containing extended living quarters and social area. It forms a connection to the water through a raised deck and jetty, distinct from the backdrop of the marsh which separates the land and water.

Our clients contacted us after deciding to downsize by selling their main house to their daughter and building a smaller space at the bottom of their garden. The annexe is tucked away from the busy main road and overlooks the forest grounds behind the property. This creative solution proves to offer the perfect combination of convenience and privacy which is exactly what the couple was after. The overall style is contemporary industrial and is reflected in both the exterior design and the interior finishes.
HarwynRather than renovate, this couple opted for a backyard studio that was fully manufactured off site in Harwyn's Melbourne factory and craned in to site. No on site trades, simply craned in and within one day, this amazing addition was added to the house.

Mihaly SlocombeStudio Uno is an unexpected sanctuary for our client Naomi, a full-time carer and mother. Lying behind an established Brunswick terrace, it takes the shape of a meticulously designed Dependent Persons Unit.
Naomi lives with her adult daughter, who has very high support needs. The nature of their circumstances means that living together under one roof isn’t always feasible. Naomi needed a certified DPU that met a simple brief: a dismantlable but quality retreat with warm, robust materials and a calming ambience.
We’ve packed as much enduring quality and thoughtful design as possible into a compact footprint. Carefully engineered, the dwelling’s lightweight structure and internal linings enable it to be readily disassembled, transported and rebuilt elsewhere. It replaces the fence at the site’s rear, with its upper mass leaning into one corner to minimise impact on the neighbours’ skyscape. Inside, blackbutt timber and hoop pine plywood dominate the palette to create a warm, low-contrast and relaxing environment.
The ground floor features dual sliding doors connecting to the courtyard and laneway, with a versatile living area between for retreat, Naomi’s art practice and above all, peacefulness. Lining the wall is a simple kitchenette, cabinetry, and a clever door concealing the bathroom. A staircase leads to the loft bedroom above, made deliberately cosy and secluded by the dwelling’s tapered form. It’s punctured only by a small window to the lane and a skylight above, offering light and ventilation without compromising privacy.
A Room in the GardenOur client and her child were looking for their forever home. In order to live close enough to their family, but still give both parties their own independence and privacy, we designed and built them a mobile home that sits discreetly in their family’s large garden. Featuring 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, a utility room and an open-plan kitchen and living room, our client has a spacious, comfortable space to fulfil daily tasks with ease, as well as enjoy a beautiful view of the garden.
