Alair Homes DecaturThe high point of this project was the smart layout and design that made sure to get every inch of space allowed by Avondale Estate’s unique height, size and massing limits. In addition, the exterior used a variety of materials to create a harmonious and interesting visual that though unique is oh so pleasing to the eye.
Details inside made the space useful, airy and bright. A very large sliding door unit floods the living room and kitchenette with light. The bathroom serves all purposes and doesn’t feel too tight. And the office has plenty of room for visiting clients and long term can provide a bedroom with plenty of closet space if needs change.
The accessory structure successfully includes absolutely every function the homeowner could want with style to spare.
Architecture OfficeThe project consists of three primary additions, one a workshop and garage, the second a basement expansion that juts out over the lake, and a third, which expands the existing living areas with a wall of glass. This third addition, originally not part of the project, was a recommendation by Architecture Office well received by the client because of how it transformed the existing living areas.
The existing architecture consists of a historic neo-classical house with a less purist addition that attempts to mimic the original. We took the approach of contrasting the existing to avoid having two additions lacking the craft and integrity of the original. This contrast is a welcoming change to previously dark interiors. The concept opens up opportunities for capturing lake views, creating modern living areas that flow from one to the next.
The rear garage and second floor workshop compliment the owners entrepreneurial spirit, a person who enjoys the act of a making. The form is simple but clearly delineates itself form the brick construction with black metal siding and a glass walkway connecting the two. The structure draws from old factory buildings that gather daylight from above, synthesized through a milky polycarbonate portion of roof.
The basement addition expands on an existing subterranean space used for storage and utilities. This room is converted into a living space with sleeping quarters, wet bar, and restroom facilities. This living room is a mini oasis from the rest of the house with views secluded to the water and sky. The openness of the balcony expand the view in all directions, with the sun blocked under a cantilevered shade cover.

We designed a beautiful, eclectic, art studio with an old world charm. The clients used reclaimed elements that completed this fun and functional space.

CLOSET FURNISHINGS & CABINETRYComplete makeover of concrete masonry unit space with center floor drain presenting cracked and sprawled concrete.
Project required thin coat of polymer added concrete surface repair, three push peers to stabilize south east corner of masonry wall on bedrock and new windows. Makeover includes taupe HandiWall wall, matching taupe paint to ceiling, frequency cabinet material, 11 foot long one-piece maple butcher block top, over counter flush mounted LED lighting and snap down floor with diamond pattern tiles on perimeter and free flow open weave tiles in center for snow melting and water runoff of cars to drain under floor while top surface stays clean and dry. One piece pulled down screen retractable door by advance screen works.
ROAM ArchitectureA new workshop and build space for a fellow creative!
Seeking a space to enable this set designer to work from home, this homeowner contacted us with an idea for a new workshop. On the must list were tall ceilings, lit naturally from the north, and space for all of those pet projects which never found a home. Looking to make a statement, the building’s exterior projects a modern farmhouse and rustic vibe in a charcoal black. On the interior, walls are finished with sturdy yet beautiful plywood sheets. Now there’s plenty of room for this fun and energetic guy to get to work (or play, depending on how you look at it)!

Luna SpacesThis project created a multi-use studio space at the rear of a carefully curated garden. Taking cues from the client’s background in opera, the project references galleries, stage curtains and balconies found in traditional opera theatres and combines them with high quality modern materials. The space becomes part rehearsal studio, part office and part entertaining space.
