The clients wanted a mountain home that blended in perfectly with its surroundings, but also served as a reminder of their primary residence in Florida. North Seattle Complete Design-Build Deck with Underdeck DrySpace Project Project Overview In North Seattle, M3Decks & Outdoor Living completed a comprehensive design-build project, transforming a residential backyard into a multi-functional outdoor living space. The project featured a modern elevated deck with an innovative underdeck DrySpace system, seamlessly blending practicality with aesthetic appeal to suit the Pacific Northwest climate. Scope of Work Design Phase: Created a custom design for an elevated deck, prioritizing open space for entertaining and a sheltered underdeck area. The design incorporated sleek railings and a natural aesthetic to complement the surrounding greenery. Construction: Built the elevated deck using TimberTech composite decking and Fortress Steel Framing for durability. Installed a TimberTech DrySpace system beneath the deck to create a dry, usable space for additional outdoor living or storage. Staircase and Lighting: Constructed a sturdy staircase with inset lighting on each step, ensuring safety and adding a warm ambiance for evening use. The staircase featured modern black railings to match the deck’s design. Landscaping Integration: Worked with the existing landscape, preserving mature trees and adding native plants like hydrangeas to enhance the natural setting and create a cohesive outdoor environment. Key Features Elevated Deck: Spacious TimberTech composite deck with sleek black railings, designed for entertaining and enjoying the scenic views of North Seattle’s greenery. Underdeck DrySpace: TimberTech DrySpace system installed to provide a weatherproof area beneath the deck, perfect for additional seating, storage, or future outdoor amenities. Inset Lighting: Energy-efficient lighting integrated into the staircase and deck perimeter, enhancing safety and creating an inviting atmosphere for nighttime use. Biophilic Design: Incorporated native plants and preserved existing trees to create a seamless connection with the natural surroundings, enhancing the outdoor experience. Outcome The North Seattle design-build project delivered a stunning and functional outdoor space that elevated the homeowners’ lifestyle. The elevated deck provides a perfect spot for entertaining, while the DrySpace system ensures the underdeck area remains dry and usable year-round, even in Seattle’s rainy climate. Tied into an existing roofline, this outdoor deck and patio bring a cohesive outdoor living design. With the impressive height this home offered – the arched ceiling on the covered deck is a jaw-dropper. This fun design was arranged to give open space & flow to the pool, a stark difference from the previous sectioned off deck that we replaced. Sticking to what we know best, we incorporated some great curves, including a “reverse” bar counter which allows for easier connection while enjoying the view of the pool.

This Craftsman lake view home is a perfectly peaceful retreat. It features a two story deck, board and batten accents inside and out, and rustic stone details.

This job was a huge group effort with multiple moving parts. We came in and completed the huge deck that stretched across the entire house. Timberline patio covers came in and built two matching gable style patio covers with lights and ceiling fans. Then Undercover Systems wrapped the job up by installing their under deck ceiling system across the entire bottom of the deck. This gave the job a nice finished look they now use the space it for weddings and events.

We matched the existing foundation stone and used it as a skirt for our deck project. LED lights were applied under the rail cap to create a beautiful effect.

Situated on the edge of New Hampshire’s beautiful Lake Sunapee, this Craftsman-style shingle lake house peeks out from the towering pine trees that surround it. When the clients approached Cummings Architects, the lot consisted of 3 run-down buildings. The challenge was to create something that enhanced the property without overshadowing the landscape, while adhering to the strict zoning regulations that come with waterfront construction. The result is a design that encompassed all of the clients’ dreams and blends seamlessly into the gorgeous, forested lake-shore, as if the property was meant to have this house all along. The ground floor of the main house is a spacious open concept that flows out to the stone patio area with fire pit. Wood flooring and natural fir bead-board ceilings pay homage to the trees and rugged landscape that surround the home. The gorgeous views are also captured in the upstairs living areas and third floor tower deck. The carriage house structure holds a cozy guest space with additional lake views, so that extended family and friends can all enjoy this vacation retreat together. Photo by Eric Roth
