How do you make a split entry not look like a split entry?
Several challenges presented themselves when designing the new entry/portico. The homeowners wanted to keep the large transom window above the front door and the need to address “where is” the front entry and of course, curb appeal.
With the addition of the new portico, custom built cedar beams and brackets along with new custom made cedar entry and garage doors added warmth and style.
Final touches of natural stone, a paver stoop and walkway, along professionally designed landscaping.
This home went from ordinary to extraordinary!
Architecture was done by KBA Architects in Minneapolis.

Exterior Painting: This house has a very southern appeal with the dark blue exterior paint and black shutters. The white dormers, windows and covered porch are finished off with white exterior trim paint.

‘Curb appeal’ was part of our initial discussion, at the start of this whole house renovation project. This simple white house with green shutters needed a jump-start with new fiber cement siding, coat of paint, windows, extended roof overhangs, roof, side screen porch, front porch and mudroom entrance as well as a family room and kitchen addition at the rear. After many meetings listening and understanding the clients ultimate goals, we created a crisp color palette and simple forms to give this house a solid perch on the hill.

Reminiscent of a 1910 Shingle Style, this new stone and cedar shake home welcomes guests through a classic doorway framing a view of the Long Island Sound beyond. Paired Tuscan columns add formality to the graceful front porch.

A simple, yet impressive entry, and an octagonal tower. The garage is cocked at a slight angle and is designed to look like the old barn that was converted. Note the way we designed the house to preserve as many trees as possible, giving the house an established feel.

When your lot is small consider using every ich of space. The rear of this garage was created not only as a drainage area but the perfect place to pot up your seasonal flower changes. The driveway hosted one of the sunny places on the property to create the rose garden which is the perfect blend of 7 different varieties. Also do not discount your electrical meter area. Here a cabinet is created to house them with beautiful fountain nearby to distract your sight.

Exterior of the house was transformed with minor changes to enhance its Cape Cod character. Entry is framed with pair of crape myrtle trees, and new picket fence encloses front garden. Exterior colors are Benjamin Moore: "Smokey Taupe" for siding, "White Dove" for trim, and "Pale Daffodil" for door and windows.
