The Holloway blends the recent revival of mid-century aesthetics with the timelessness of a country farmhouse. Each façade features playfully arranged windows tucked under steeply pitched gables. Natural wood lapped siding emphasizes this homes more modern elements, while classic white board & batten covers the core of this house. A rustic stone water table wraps around the base and contours down into the rear view-out terrace. Inside, a wide hallway connects the foyer to the den and living spaces through smooth case-less openings. Featuring a grey stone fireplace, tall windows, and vaulted wood ceiling, the living room bridges between the kitchen and den. The kitchen picks up some mid-century through the use of flat-faced upper and lower cabinets with chrome pulls. Richly toned wood chairs and table cap off the dining room, which is surrounded by windows on three sides. The grand staircase, to the left, is viewable from the outside through a set of giant casement windows on the upper landing. A spacious master suite is situated off of this upper landing. Featuring separate closets, a tiled bath with tub and shower, this suite has a perfect view out to the rear yard through the bedroom's rear windows. All the way upstairs, and to the right of the staircase, is four separate bedrooms. Downstairs, under the master suite, is a gymnasium. This gymnasium is connected to the outdoors through an overhead door and is perfect for athletic activities or storing a boat during cold months. The floating bridge between the "tea room" and sleeping addition serves as a threshold between the intimate side courtyard and the expansive back yards with views 180° views to the East Bay watershed. The 3 bathrooms in this 1970's house were in serious need of remodeling - as in gut and re-build - so the owners decided to have them all done at once and while at it, refinish the floors, refurnish the living room and furnish the new screen porch addition. As a designer in a seasonal resort area, I am accustomed to working with my customers long distance. Using (and e-mailing) computer drafted renderings, product layout pages very professional builders, suppliers and steady communication, my client and I moved flawlessly through the challenges all remodel projects present. My goal was to find fabrics and furnishings that reflected the home's original architectural Mid Century Modern integrity The house has very strong horizontal lines that I wanted to repeat in the furniture, bathroom fixtures, tile and light fixture selections. Eine Mid-Century Veranda ist ein Ort, an dem sich Haus und Garten, Innen und Außen berühren. Traditionell aus Holz gebaut, ist dieser Anbau ans Haus halboffen, weshalb man Veranden besonders in wärmeren Ländern findet. Nahezu jeder kennt das amerikanische Veranda-Design mit Holzdielen, verzierten Geländern und einer Schaukel. Der Anbau bietet die Möglichkeit auch bei Wind und Wetter den Garten zu genießen und sich an der frischen Luft zu entspannen. Gleichzeitig schützen Retro Verandas vor direkter Sonneneinstrahlung. Wie kann ich eine Retro Veranda gestalten?

Die wichtigsten Fragen bei der Planung von einem Anbau, der nachträglich an das Haus hinzugefügt wird, sind der Unterbau und das Dach. Passend zum Look von Haus und Eingang, kann man die Stützpfosten und das Geländer der Veranda in derselben Farbe wie die Fassade streichen. Im Gegensatz zur ebenerdigen Terrasse sind stets Verandas leicht erhöht, was die repräsentative Wirkung von diesem Anbau erhöht. In manchen Fällen führen die charakteristischen Holzbalustraden sogar um das ganze Haus. Ist dies nicht der Fall, empfiehlt sich für die Ausrichtung die Südseite als Sonnenseite. Heutzutage gibt es tausende von Wohnideen, wie man selbst eine kleine Mid-Century Veranda neu gestalten kann. Veranda anbauen: Holz, Glas oder Alu?

Während in Ländern wie den USA oder Australien kaum ein Haus ohne Holzveranda gebaut wird, entstehen Veranden hierzulande oft aus der Initiative von Hausbesitzern, die nach einem Besuch in Amerika auf die Idee kommen, dass Sie eine Mid-Century Veranda am Haus anbauen möchten. Aufgrund der niedrigeren Temperaturen sind hierzulande die Übergänge zu einer Holzterrasse, die überdacht oder verglast wird, fließend, obwohl die klassische Form ja das Gegenstück zu einer Glasveranda oder einem Verandaanbau aus Aluminium darstellt. Schiebetüren zwischen Haus und Veranda ermöglichen es, sowohl drinnen als auch draußen zu wohnen. Wird die Veranda, verglast, lässt sie sich im Unterschied zum Wintergarten mit Hilfe von Schiebetüren oder Schiebefenstern komplett öffnen.
