For the countertops, Tays chose a neutral, almost-all-white quartz for the perimeter. “I love natural materials, but it just made sense to have something so durable on those countertops,” she says. It also saved on the budget, so she could splurge on this charcoal granite as the centerpiece on the island. “This beautiful granite looks a lot like soapstone, but it’s lower-maintenance and more durable,” Tays says. “Using the very neutral quartz on the perimeter counters allowed this beautiful accent stone to be the focus.”
Kitchen DIMENSIONS
Should I Consider Vinyl Flooring? In recent years, vinyl flooring has advanced in quality, looks, features and durability, Pahlevanpour says. It can give you the look of wood, cement or stone without the added maintenance. “This waterproof, pet- and kid-friendly flooring is installed in basements, kitchens and often the entire house,” he says.
Contemporary kitchens fully embrace the latest in technology, materials and trends for an of-the-moment look with clean lines and minimal adornment. Key features of contemporary-style kitchens: Flat-panel cabinetry Waterfall counters, bilevel surfaces and other innovative island designs Cutting-edge appliances and smart kitchen technology Creative backsplashes Dramatic lighting Undermount sinks and minimalist faucets
To provide adequate circulation, try to have about 4 feet of space between kitchen countertops, Gordon says. Allow a little more room if there is a thoroughfare leading through the kitchen. “In a small kitchen, [39 inches] would be the minimum amount of space between countertops, but aim for more if you can,” she says.
Ceiling and the beams.
Wood cabinets and possibly the floor. The hi-def wood plank flooring is an Italian manufactured 8”x32” tile from Flaviker. The series is: Dakota and the color is: Avana.
Deep green cabinets; however, I would probably prefer blue.

Backsplash tiles - The black, gray and white countertops are polished granite and pair nicely with the Carrara marble tile backsplash, which has a glossy finish.
Now the refrigerator is on the right and the range and hood are on the back wall. Open shelves surrounding the hood help the room feel less cluttered.
Open shelves instead of cabinets.
Notice the lower drawers. Like the symmetry.
The tone of the colors.
Notice that the cabinets on both sides of the sink open from the sink position.
The ebony-stained kitchen cabinets are a classic contrast to the white quartz counters. The black and white scheme is softened by blond wood beams, stools and dining room table. I need skylights for light in the kitchen.
If you prefer keeping the kitchen a bit lighter and brighter, try using this blue only on your base cabinets, or just on the island, as shown here. You get a splash of color while maintaining a clean white vibe.
Navy blue has been a popular kitchen cabinet color lately, but I think slightly lighter and bolder Classic Blue and similar hues could give navy a run for its money. Here the blue adds depth and richness to an otherwise white-and-wood kitchen.
Pros: Copper is naturally antibacterial, so it’s a hygienic option. It’s durable and easy to clean, as long as you know which substances to avoid. Cons: Maintenance is simple, but certain substances will cause damage — avoid acidic foods and harsh chemicals, as well as hot pans and utensils. Copper isn’t the cheapest material to use, so it’s not a good choice if you’re on a budget.
Open cabinets to the left of the refrigerator help balance the room.
Reminiscent of factories and warehouses, industrial-style kitchens are simple, utilitarian spaces where raw materials and tough fixtures and finishes take center stage. Favoring practical, hard-wearing surfaces and restaurant-grade equipment over ornament and excess embellishment, industrial-style kitchens are made to stand up to a lot of use. Key features of industrial-style kitchens: Hardworking materials like stainless steel and concrete Found objects and salvaged materials Frameless cabinets with flat-panel doors Exposed piping and ductwork Utilitarian factory-style or filament-bulb light fixtures Color palette: The raw materials used form the foundation of the color palette in an industrial-style kitchen. Think of concrete gray, architectural white and matte black, with an occasional pop of saturated color.

Key features of contemporary-style kitchens: Flat-panel cabinetry Waterfall counters, bilevel surfaces and other innovative island designs Cutting-edge appliances and smart kitchen technology Creative backsplashes Dramatic lighting Undermount sinks and minimalist faucets Color palette: White is a popular choice for contemporary kitchens, but it’s certainly not the only option. Color can be bright and bold or soft and subtle. Consider using crisp white walls as a jumping-off point for colorful cabinetry or an eye-catching backsplash.

Notice heights of the open shelves. I like the two lower ones.
The standard placement for upper cabinets has long been 18 inches above the counter. Modern installations now often hang 21 to 24 inches above, or even much higher, to give the work surface below more of an open feel. This reduces the amount of cabinet space within easy reach but still allows for plenty of storage for less commonly used items.Standard cabinets are usually 12 inches deep, but the need to store bulky appliances has reaised that depth to 15 inches on many cabinets. Returning to a 12-inch depth or even shallower cabinets give you ample space and open up the countertop.
This rustic yet sophisticated kitchen floor in a townhouse in Brooklyn, New York, remodeled by Think Construction consists of bricks laid in a herringbone pattern. The material has an indoor-outdoor feel that works well as a transition from the walk-out patio beyond the kitchen.
Green and Gold Wallpaper in rich green with gold veining makes for a beautiful backsplash in this Moscow eat-in kitchen.
Dark Balance This San Diego kitchen blends two popular cabinet finishes — wood and white — with patterned tile and dark countertops. Pops of black throughout the kitchen (the bar stools, pendant lights and cabinet hardware) pull the look together.
Open shelves instead of upper cabinets. The blue color.
Like the brick wall with shelves.
I like the brick wall and the black metal open shelves.
"Drawers are the future,” Lennox says. “They provide much more storage than a cupboard. With drawers being telescopic, you can see everything at the back — nothing gets lost, nothing is inaccessible.”
This contemporary kitchen’s glass range hood keeps the island space airy and open for entertainment.
Visual appeal. A 4-by-16-foot Val d’Orcia granite island with waterfall ends. Also, black cabinets with brass hardware.
Pairing the dark tile backsplash with the white countertops.
Clean lines, windows and ceiling. I also like the bookshelves.
I like the clean lines and the lighting. I like the narrow shelves as opposed to cabinets.
Love the backsplash tile.
Like the spacious kitchen. I would, however, add color via stained wood or paint.
I definitely like the idea of drawers in lieu of the lower cabinets.
Simple, clean lines of hood. Like the backsplash some, but it would depend on the actual stone/quartzite.
