I swear it took me 10 times longer than I’d anticipated to gather up the 20 most popular bedroom photos of 2017. Just looking at them is relaxing, and I’d find my mind wandering off to dreamy thoughts, my eyelids drooping and my chin dropping to my chest after staring at them for too long. It wasn’t that they were boring — they were hypnotic.
For maximum relaxation, use the slide-show mode to view these pictures, which present, in reverse order, the most-saved bedroom photos uploaded in 2017. Click on the first image to enlarge and use the right arrow to flip through. (Switch the product tags on and off with the tag icon below each shot.) If you want to make things even more interesting, take a gulp of eggnog every time I use some form of the word relax. Enjoy, and sweet dreams!

20. Warm Grays
If the most popular picks for 2017 are any indication, gray is here to stay, especially in the bedroom, where the warmer gray hues lend a sense of calm.
Notable detail: This could be the world’s fluffiest rug — can you imagine anything softer to step on first thing in the morning? If you don’t have a rug or carpeting in your bedroom, try placing a small area rug right on the spot where your feet hit the floor when you get out of bed.

19. Pleasing Symmetry
Balance lends ease, particularly in a bedroom where everything is a pretty tight fit. The table lamps here are particularly clever: They don’t take up a lot of space but still have silhouettes that make a big impact.
Notable detail: There’s just no beating fresh flowers next to the bed, whether for guests or yourself. Make the extra effort to add them when you can.

18. Artful Contrast
An unexpected mix of pastels and charcoal gray is striking in this popular bedroom. The artwork over the headboard draws the eye up.
Notable detail: The sculptural shape of the reading lamp works well with the abstract paintings.

17. Sitting Area Space
If you have the space, it’s wonderful to add comfortable seating in your bedroom, whether for morning coffee, catching up with your partner after work or reading during the evening. This one with its two comfy armchairs and tufted hexagonal ottoman had many Houzzers ready to put their feet up in here.
Notable detail: The size and placement of the area rug is just right.

16. The Whole-Wall Headboard
Upholstering the entire headboard wall in a large-scale grid mitigates the long and narrow dimensions of this bedroom and makes it feel larger.
Notable detail: That console at the footboard is hiding something. We’ll get to that topic in the next bedroom.

15. To TV or Not to TV …
… in the bedroom is still a huge controversy on Houzz. But the secret TV that extends down from the ceiling (or the one hidden in a console at the foot of the bed) is an excellent compromise.
Notable detail: Check out that beautiful tile on the fireplace surround.

14. Layers of Texture
It takes a moment to really absorb all the different textures in this room — the grasscloth-wrapped nightstand, the subtle pattern in the rug, the various metal finishes, the glass on the lamps and light fixture. Yet the overall feeling is so calm and soft.
Notable detail: The artwork adds a splash of bright color to the otherwise neutral palette.

13. Coastal Casual
Beachy textures on items like the natural fiber rug, branches, woven baskets and fringed blankets enhance the neutral palette in this English bedroom.
Notable detail: The white painted wood keeps things casual.

12. Pure Opulence
There’s something so luxe about this Russian bedroom; it feels as though it belongs in a very expensive hotel. From the way the lighting makes the 3D wood panels on the wall shimmer to the sheers, satins and silks on the bedding and window treatments — many of us are dreaming of diving into this bed.
Notable detail: The bubble-like mirrors over the bed are like a cluster of dream clouds.

11. Smart Separation
This studio apartment in Moscow has a clever, efficient layout. A dividing wall separates the sleeping area from the rest of the space and serves both sides as handy shelving. Nods to midcentury modern design add streamlined style and playful touches to the compact abode.
Notable detail: The three-dimensional artwork plays nicely off the gridded room divider.

10. Midcentury Chic
Speaking of midcentury modern, this room also borrows a few moves, from the Danish modern lines of the armchair to the legs on the nightstand to the funky task lamp. A soft palette of creams, tans and blues creates a relaxing atmosphere.
Notable detail: The artful throw pillows bring large-scale pattern to a room that’s decorated mostly in solid colors.

9. Chic and Beachy
Luxe textiles and prints bring chic sophistication to this coastal San Diego home. Meanwhile, knotty pine floors and plantation blinds keep the charm of the beach bungalow alive.
Notable detail: Notice how the custom headboard tucks just under the window.

8. Rustic Luxe
The key to rustic luxe is to contrast rough-hewn finishes like reclaimed wood with sumptuous textiles like velvet and chenille. It’s an easy formula to achieve — just keep in mind that the bed should stay plush and comfortable; the rest of the mix will work itself out.
Notable detail: The wall that opens wide to the outdoors can transform this bedroom into a glamping experience.

7. Retail and Custom Balance
If you want to balance your saves and splurges, try purchasing larger pieces of bedding such as sheets and duvet covers from retailers — this room has Pottery Barn bedding — and splurge on a yard or two of really special fabric for smaller custom pieces like throw pillows, Euros and bolsters. You can save even more by covering just the front of the throw pillows with the expensive fabric and using an inexpensive solid like linen or cotton velvet on the back.
Notable detail: The multitiered chandelier is the right scale for the room.

6. Scandinavian Simplicity
A pleasing mix of just-barely-off-white and tans highlights the beautiful old beams in this bedroom.
Notable detail: If space is too tight for a sitting area like we saw in No. 17, see if you can carve out a window seat like this one.

5. Inky Accents
Indigo continued to rise in popularity in 2017, whether in the hand-blocked or batik textiles so popular for boho spaces or in more stately and traditional ways, such as this bedroom’s coved accent wall.
Notable detail: The nightstands provide lots of great storage.

4. Floating Bed
The integrated bed platform, headboard and nightstands give this bedroom a clean, contemporary look. But the most relaxing bit is the sense that the bed is floating off the floor. This creates an uninterrupted view of the rug beneath it and doesn’t allow for any clutter to gather down there.
Notable detail: The smoky glass pendant lights continue the orb shapes in the artwork across the entire extended-headboard wall.

3. Isn’t It Romantic?
Right down to the photos of just the two of them, every detail in this room is about these partners as a couple, not as busy parents and professionals. This helps keep the space feeling calm and romantic.
Notable detail: The paper peony over the bed is framed in plexiglass and backed with fabric that matches the wall paint. This is a nice way to enjoy a pretty paper flower for a good long time without it getting dusty.

2. Ivory and White
A wide variety of textures keeps this neutral palette interesting. From a furry throw to a tufted headboard, a glittering chandelier to a mirrored nightstand, the room is wonderfully restful without being a snooze.
Notable detail: The geometric wallpaper behind the headboard features subtle variations in tone.

1. Graphic Contrast
Black walls always create a lively discussion on Houzz — they tend to be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing. It’s clear that this year they were more loved than hated in the bedroom, as this room with its accent wall in Onyx by Benjamin Moore came in at No. 1.
Notable detail: We’ve come full circle — remember that fuzzy rug in No. 20? Here the inexpensive Ikea faux-sheepskin throw next to the bed gives that same nice feeling to the feet first thing in the morning.
