Alan was great to work with. He was very responsive and clearly quite knowledgeable. He took the time to really understand what we were looking for and he offered several excellent suggestions. We would not hesitate to hire him again.

Alan arrived promptly at the time agreed upon, listened carefully to our concerns, needs, ideas, examined the plot plan we provided, walked throughout the house, assessing the various problems we identified, made suggestions that were well reasoned and provided estimates regarding what was doable and what approximate costs might be. He is intelligent, experienced, thoughtful, friendly and, in my view, highly competent. I recommend him highly.

I didn't have a very good experience with Alan Taylor. After I paid him in full he did not provide three sets of architectural drawings as promised in our contract. He told me to purchase a thumbnail and do it myself. He did not provide Engineering stamped credentials for the Building Department which caused a problem with obtaining a building permit. He was uncooperative and disagreeable when I asked for his help. But he easily took my money and cashed my check. I would not recommend him to anyone.

I'm currently seeking a building permit for a deck I am building. Alan provided me beautifully rendered architectural drawings of the proposed deck at a reasonable price. He comes highly recommended by me.

Alan Taylor met promptly with me and my daughter after we set a date and time for our project. His design ideas were most helpful. He has years of experience working with clients in my hometown. He was recommended to me by a Land use attorney who has collaborated with Alan successfully for many decades. Alan quickly drew up an estimate and guidelines for the house renovation. All were reasonable in scope and price.

I met with Alan at my house after speaking with him on the phone and through email. He was very enthusiastic about the project as well as informational. His experience and insight into residential design and construction is what sets him apart from others. His concentration is on keeping construction drawings clear for the contractors to build off of. He was helpful in reviewing different options and whether or not they seemed worth the expense. I also very much appreciated his knowledge about working with the local building departments and the permitting process. What you would typically think of a designer or architect, he was able to discuss much more: design process, construction process, cost, realistic timelines and expectations.

Very well, way better then expectation! Alan is a customer centric consultant. He elicited information from me and provide recommendations that are in the best interest of my situation. I am in the process of doing a complete renovation of a condo unit in a 1900 brownstone in Boston. I’ve been struggling to determine how best to renovate and what should be the final use case (rental vs owner occupy) for the unit. Alan using his years of experience as an architect; knowledge of the Boston building code, real estate market, and just common sense developed thru his years of consulting and provided me with valuable insight for my decision. He provided recommendations with various bath and kitchen change, room adjustment options, the pro and cons, licensing and cost considerations for the particular use case. During the visit he demonstrated his commend of relevant building code requirements. Shared his experiences as a landlord, property manager, and home owner. Project: 2nd floor addition. Initially, we had rough plans (not done by an architect) and were looking for a contractor. When we reached out to Alan thinking that his firm may also do the building, out of the goodness of his heart, he responded with a few recommendations of the contractors that he has worked with over the years. That really set the tone for who Alan is as a person and a few months later we reached back out to him to help us complete the detailed plans for our zoning presentation. Alan was very thorough and has spent a lot of time at our home measuring and making sure that he has accounted for everything. He listened to our needs but also came up with a few great ideas to maximize the usage of space. He is well versed in building codes. We haven’t started the construction yet but so far so good!

I hired Alan to design a 3rd bedroom addition (first floor, expanded footprint) for my home in Dedham. This was a challenging project in that I was attempting to build close to my neighbors property line. Alan investigated further with the town and learned which specific building materials would be required given my situation. He also gave additional guidance in working with my town along the way. Alan is a good communicator and had great recommendations for my project. He was also easy to work with when there were tweaks or changes requested on my end. Alan was also willing to consult directly with the contractor that I eventually hired for the job to ensure nothing was lost in translation. Even the contractor mentioned a few times that Alan had done a great job with his plans and additional ideas. The room is now complete and is even better that I imagined it would be. I would enthusiastically recommend Alan to anyone in need of an architect.

Alan did the design work to reconfigure a small 4 bedroom cape to provide more kitchen and dining space, redesign the garage and allow direct access into a mudroom from the garage. He provided several ideas the we hadn't thought of. The result was a more useful design. He also made several recommendations for contractors. One objective was to be able to live on one floor.

My wife and i had a small house in newton, mass. We had at the time three young boys and not enough room for all so we started looking aroind and we found Allen Taylor he came over and started working away on plans for new addition we met with builder and all went perfect never met someone that went out of his way to make shure things were done to specs so we had him draw plans for a garage city approved it and agin everyone involved in building it said they were inrest by him
