I was exhausted from a family emergency, just moved into a lovely house that was completely different from the house we'd sold after 20 years, and needed a nurturing space. My landscape designer suggested I call AJ, and it was a fantastic referral. The result is beyond our expectations and we love it. Under the circumstances, I was a challenging client, but AJ found my style and was able to bring it into the new house in a way I would never have been able to do without her design sense and advice. She and her very professional team of design and crafts-people took the stress out of installation. AJ’s designs are contemporary and comfortable. She designed and furnished a new townhouse, turning it from a cookie cutter to custom home. She has a great eye for detail, overseeing installation of tiling, wall paper, and woodwork, as well as conceptualizing, designing, ordering, and placing top-of-the line furniture. She truly made our house into a contemporary and comfortable home.

I love my timeless living room that A.J. designed. We have an 1895 Victorian with a tricky floor plan and I tasked her with using the wallpaper and drapes that were already in place and not putting in any overhead electrical work. She worked hard to meet my demands. Guests constantly complement the space (where we entertain frequently). If it weren’t for the fact that we had to spend the remainder off our decorating budget and then some on a new slate roof shortly after we finished our project with A.J., I would have had her help me with other spaces in the house—maybe someday!

My project involved getting my home ready for a special event. A major piece was painting the interior. AJ has a phenomenal eye for color and her painting contractor is superb. She was also involved with designing a mantel, reupholstering chairs and changing out light fixture, among other things. The project was completed prior to the event. I have worked with AJ Margulis on various interior design projects over the last 15 years. Our most recent project involved a complete redesign of my daughter's bathroom, gutting the room and starting from scratch. AJ was able to spot design flaws in the layout suggested by the contractor and provide a revised layout that was both more functional, allowed for a larger shower footprint, and was aesthetically more appealing. AJ has a knack for creating rooms that are classic, yet not old-fashioned, functional, and always unique. She also understands that there is a budget and can work within it. AJ has been nothing short of amazing for our renovation project. She is not simply a designer. She is, by all accounts, a facilitator. She owns the project and gets involved with all parties (architects, contractors, sub-contractors, etc.). Side Porch, Entranceway and Mudroom We hired AJ to design and manage the creation of a mudroom in an area which existed as a garage bay. In addition to the creation of the mudroom the project also included creating a side porch entranceway into the house, exterior lighting and garage doors. AJ is very professional and knowledgeable. She provided drawings with elevations and met with us to go over them, answer any questions and make revisions as needed based on our discussions in order to create a space which would meet our needs. She also presented her recommendations for paint, flooring, wallpaper, interior and exterior lighting and other accents to us. Her presentation included her recommended choices but also another option or two. This gave us the opportunity to see other possibilities and discuss potential changes 'real time' in order to make decisions quickly and avoid delays. AJ has a broad experience in design which lent itself perfectly to this project which involved creating an interior and exterior space. In addition, we wanted to find a "space; in the mudroom which could house our two large dogs and their crates in a way that blended into the surroundings and was not obtrusive. AJ did a great job coming up with a creative idea which was functional meeting our needs as well as allowing the contractors to execute. She has a 'get it done' attitude and worked well with us and the contractors. AJ met our timelines and stayed on budget during the project. In summary, AJ is a very experienced interior designer, a pleasure to work with and we would highly recommend her to anyone.

I hired AJ to help design a cohesive LR/DR look for my old PA farmhouse. Wanting to incorporate some traditional pieces, yet looking for a brighter, softer feel, I wasn't sure how to proceed. AJ did a fantastic job decorating a difficult confluence of two distinct spaces within one setting for me. She somehow managed to make a warm, organic yoga studio blend into the confines of a modern, metallic medical and fitness center. I highly recommend her.

Our latest project was a complete kitchen remodel. A.J.'s design created a highly functional workspace while still leaving a beautiful room. Her advice to use a custom cabinet maker added to meeting our specific needs. The jewel of the kitchen is a handmade oven/range from France that sets the project apart from the ordinary. The transformation of the dark and dated kitchen to our sunny, sumptuous gathering space is our dream come true.

AJ is a pleasure to work with. Many designers these days develop a set of suppliers ( for fabrics, furniture etc.) and apply those sample products to every design job they encounter regardless - in many cases - of the clients needs and tastes. AJ instead is constantly researching new and different sources to bring a fresh and different look to her design proposal while ensuring she is meeting the client's needs and appealing to their specific tastes.

I lived out of state and purchased a house several months before moving in with the intention of having the house complete upon our arrival. I hired AJ, gave her a budget, a sense of my taste and our move-in date. With just 5 short months and a handful of personal meetings and phone calls, AJ produced the most perfect home! My husband and I decided to "rehab" our 20 year old kitchen. We had the cabinets refinished, replaced the counter tops and appliances, and installed a wood floor. I worked with AJ, of AJ Margulis Interiors, to decorate a 15,000 square foot home. The project could have been easily overwhelming but AJ was quick to help me devise a priority list. She worked tirelessly to draw up floor plans. We have hired AJ Margulis to design the higher end projects in our home. We love her warm and friendly personality and enjoyed working with her during our kitchen and family/sunroom remodel. AJ has an incredible eye for detail, design innovation and function. As a mother herself, she understood and listened to our request for a bit of formality mixed with comfort and function. We have two children, a dog and an active life style. We told her we wanted "grown-up" rooms that were kid friendly. Somehow she knew exactly what that meant. She always gave us options and understood our need to stay within budget. AJ provided the elevations and design for our contractors. Because of our budget constraints and construction "surprises" that put us over budget, AJ is always willing to break our decorating objectives into smaller jobs. We have been working with AJ Margulis Interiors updating our 1990s home. We like the clean modern day style. The suggested color schemes are fresh but serene. The rooms are designed to be lived in with comfortable, inviting furniture. AJ listens to our needs and proceeds to accomplish our vision in the most efficient, professional way.

AJ was remarkable in her ability to hear and understand what it was I needed and wanted to design spaces that fit my taste and style. Her eye for decorating is suburb and the rooms she created look fabulous. Although her work is expensive and she insists on working with the highest quality materials, she was clear about the budget and able to stay within my expectations which required sacrificing and compromising her first choices and making the less expensive options work. My only criticism has to do with communication around the timeframe certain items and areas were completed... furniture and draperies taking longer to make and install than I wanted and expected given what was discussed in my my initial conversations with AJ. That being said, the project was still completed in a reasonable amount of time and the final project is absolutely gorgeous.

We love our new kitchen, and it’s because of AJ, that it is perfect! AJ worked closely with the architect, contractor and cabinet dealer to help design the kitchen of our dreams. We hired AJ early in the project to make sure that the kitchen design was well integrated with the rest of the house and all of the design details were addressed at the beginning. In working with the architect, she helped us prioritize key design elements that were most likely to affect the end result. For example, we had hoped to realize cost savings by not moving an opening to our dining room. AJ pointed out that while this was an added cost, the long-term design would be enhanced by moving it, and the cost savings was not significant enough to make it worthwhile. She helped us to review the designs and the estimates and worked closely with the contractor and cabinet dealer to design a kitchen that fit our family. AJ has fabulous taste, but she is also reasonable. Her suggestions fit our lifestyle, while still maintaining great design. She helped us identify the areas where spending a little bit more would make a difference. And, I am so glad that we listened to her because everything she suggested looks amazing. I highly recommend working with AJ. We couldn’t have done what we did without her help.
