Art of Stone Gardening

Re-think and re-design of steep hillside drainage, driveway and retaining walls, addition of a new patio. The stone-faced retaining wall on the street is a work of art, and the cement-block wall down below is a muscular workhorse. Jason brought unexpected finesse and a delicate curve to both -- and to the last-minute patio, which would otherwise have been my dumb rectangle. He also brought kick-ass crew for each different task, full partners in the design and build. To top it off, Suzanne planted the new landscape to grow seamlessly into the woods over the next few years... if we can just keep the deer at bay!

I first saw the work of Art of Stone on a neighbor's yard, and was impressed by both the beauty of the work and the engineering expertise. My side yard was very steep (exceedingly hard and dangerous to mow), and was beginning to show signs of erosion, so I contacted Jason Brosche at Art of Stone about constructing stone terraces. He came to my house, made measurements and suggestions, and provided a detailed estimate. Being a cheapskate and stuck in the mindset of prices in the 1970's, I balked somewhat at the price , but after several other bids from local contractors, I decided to go with Art of Stone. I could not have been happier. The Art of Stone workers were diligent, meticulous in details surrounding the construction, professional, and quite skilled at their craft. Even though there were rainy days during the construction period, the workers plodded on, and the construction was completed on time and on budget. I was awestruck by our three tiered terracing of stone (each 45' long and 5' above ground), and a massive single wall, standing 10" high and 75' long, which may be visible from outer space in its grandeur. We also had a ~ 30' dry creek bed with river rocks installed, had gravel placed around another area of the property, and had a curb and drain next to our driveway installed to funnel away rain water. During the work period, the workers dug up some small trees that were in the way, balled them up, and replanted them at the end of construction. They also thoroughly cleaned all areas that were muddied via power washing. l am continuing to work with Jason and his wife Suzanne to help with specific flowers and plants to enhance the appearance of our property. I am happy to recommend Art of Stone for all landscaping services.

Jason and Suzanne helped us with a challenging site - a new house on a very small lot in Dahlonega where the use of every square foot needed to be optimized. There were serious issues with drainage and water management. Jason and the crew removed a large tangle of wisteria, privet and other unwanted, overgrown vegetation and regraded the entire lot removing rocks and stumps. They built a beautiful and functional retaining wall along one edge of the property and then constructed a rock covered walkway to the front entrance, and added some large rocks and small boulders for additional grade control and visual interest. Jason also expertly designed and personally poured a substantial driveway and added concrete curbing along the city street to control runoff issues. The crew then incorporated additional topsoil, river sand, and CLM soil conditioner and prepared the entire lot for planting trees, shrubs and grass. Throughout the entire process communication was excellent and the crew always came when they said that they would come and did exactly what they said they would do. We soon learned to just let Jason make most of the decisions about the details rather than micro-managing him. The final cost for the project came in almost exactly matching the initial estimates. We are doing all of the planting ourselves, but Suzanne has given us excellent advice on plant selection. We would definitely recommend Art of Stone to anyone.

Art of Stone completed a beautiful, meditation courtyard for me. My old landscaping was over grown and did not drain properly. My patio was just a slab of concrete. Art of Stone took out all of the old landscaping, prepped the soil, placed drainage, and covered my patio with pavers that coordinated with my home's brick. Instead of grass they placed large stones with dwarf mondo between them. My landscape plants are now a mixture of different types of ferns, hosta, and daylilies. They did an excellent job!

We loved working with Suzanne and Jason and their team! They were kind, professional, and obviously knew their stuff. The plan was great and the installation was very fast and well done. They took care with moving some of my original plants and were very thoughtful in how they dealt with us and our property. We are so happy with how everything turned out, and are just waiting for fall to do more work with them. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Art of Stone Gardening transformed what was for 20 years the most troublesome and ugly part of our entire yard. It’s the only level stretch of land at the back of our house that had resisted every effort we'd made to beautify and keep it up. Despite all our efforts, we were left with a weed-ridden patch of land with mismatched plants, pots, and river rocks. Suzanne and Jason Brosche carefully analyzed the landscape around that plot—a heavily-wooded landscape that blocked the sun for most of the day—took into account the quality of its soil; listened to what we didn’t like about the plot as well as what we hoped to have there and how we hoped to keep it up (and at what level of effort). Suzanne gave us a design that surpassed our vision and included choices for lovely plants, pots, and larger installations like a fountain. She adjusted that design when we changed our minds about the fountain, replacing it with our choice between two large and beautiful pots. After we approved her design, they gave us an extremely fair estimate. They scheduled the landscaping and completed it exactly within the time frame and price they predicted. They integrated the few things—rocks and plants—that were there and added stones, pots, plants, and mulch, turning what was before an ugly plot of land into what is now, for us, a garden showcase. They are extremely reliable, knowledgeable, and creative gardeners and landscapers. We were (and are) very lucky to work with him.

Art of Stone did a fantastic job for us here at the Atlanta History Center. They arrived on time and competed the project we hired them to do in a day. Their work looks great, they were careful and professional, and they left the jobsite clean at the end of the day.

Jason and Suzanne Brosche were a delight to work with. I chose them to build a retaining wall and provide some landscaping behind the wall to reduce erosion and beautify the area while also reducing the need to use my weedeater and lawn mower. A friend of mine had recommended them to me. I made a call and Jason promptly returned it, came to view the area and give a quote, all within a week of my call. He performed the work within his given time frame and wow, what a difference the wall made! It is gorgeous with a beautiful curve in it. Jason also did some minor grading for me, just because he saw it was needed. I am certainly impressed with him and his crew! Suzanne came by while Jason was doing cleanup. She and her crew provided a beautiful landscape that would be easy for me to maintain. I love her creativity and thoughtfulness. And oh how it has made a difference to my hillside. I love it and anticipate seeing the trees and plants grow around my new boulders over the next few years. Very professional, knowledgeable, and reliable. We have only done a small project so far but Art of Stone kept a long-time scheduled appointment (unusual these days), did a great job on planting some arborvitae’s for us, and came back out immediately when we had one blow over during a big storm. They even secured the other trees as well. Suzanne is so knowledgeable and I look forward to working with them more on some bigger projects we have in mind.

You won’t find a better hardscape and landscape company than Art of Stone Gardening. Jason and his team are meticulous craftsmen. They pay attention to detail, and are knowledgeable and skilled. Our lake house had several erosion control issues. They built: (1) a beautiful 170’ dry creek bed from the front to the lake on the side of our house; (2) an 18” stone wall to hold back a large berm from flushing dirt into the driveway and garage; (3) approx 20’ of matching stone stairs linking the basement garage to the front door ramp; (4) a 12’ concrete curb to reroute rainwater running from the street and filling a corner of the driveway. Once completed the results were excellent. My wife and I are both happy with the work. Jason is very easy to work with, listens carefully, makes suggestions, and adjusts as needed. We will be using their services again soon.

We originally found Jason and his team on here and couldn’t be happier with their work. They did two separate projects with us. One a drain renovation, the second, a new backyard fire pit area. They did it on budget and on time. Super friendly and professional team.

Art of Stone did two projects for Saint Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in 2021. The first involved design and installation of new landscaping in the front of the church. The second was design and installation of landscaping on a large slope at the back of the church. In each case Suzanne's design captured the spirit of what we wanted. The installation work was done as scheduled and done in a very professional manner by Jason and crew. Simply said-really outstanding work!

The crew worked very efficiently. They discussed and honored the property owners' opinions and wishes for job requested. The final product looks quite nice and we look forward to watching it grow. We would use Art of Stone again.

Art of Stone Gardening replaced the deteriorating mortar around the blue flagstone entryway and steps on our front entryway. The stones were acid cleaned and sealed which revealed their beautiful color once again! Thank you for creating a warm welcome to our home. It was a long overdue project!

Art of Stone is the best. No nonsense, pride in work, fair pricing, quality materials, but best of all-great ideas and solutions to problems we had with our yard-erosion, rotting wood, water availability, steep steps.....you name it, they have seen it. We had laid some leftover brick under a portion of the desk, but the brick was being pushed up, uneven, separating. The professionalism, leveling, and math that went into pulling out, leveling, preparing the bed, and replacing the brick was a sight to behold. Now we have a nice covered patio area. This was only one of the projects we had. Art of Stone is meticulous on the big jobs and the small jobs. With Art of the Stone you know what to expect. After twenty years our landscaping needed some updates. Suzanne came out and took the time to listen to what we felt we wanted then presented us with ideas that really worked for our space. We have some additional work to be done and are looking forward to her guidance and the fine work of her competent and talented crew.

I had what could only be referred to as the “trench of despair” and poor drainage in my front yard. Jason and team came in and fixed the entire drainage issue and implemented a beautiful river rock bed that diverts the rain water into the woods. I highly recommend them- they were professional and were able to complete the project in a timely fashion. I am definitely going to be working with them on future yard projects!

Jason and Suzanne have done a couple of projects for us. When we found water in our basement after a heavy rain, I gave Jason a call. He came out and gave us his recommendation which included piping a gutter drain on the front around to the back of the house and adding a french drain. While he was here, we wanted to do something with an area we’ve been ignoring between two retaining walls. Suzanne came out and gave us excellent landscaping recommendations on the area, and while she was here gave us some great ideas of what we could do with the rest of the yard. They also replaced a drain in the driveway that was overflowing in heavy rains. They always do an excellent job. Their recommendations are very thorough and professional. They do the job right! Even though there was a day and a half of rain, they still completed the job on time. Their crew was very friendly and accommodating, even when it meant hauling dirt down a hill on the other side of the house. They are our “go to” for any kind of outside work, and will remain so. Art of Stone Gardening has been my go-to landscape partner for both hardscapes and landscaping for nearly 15 years. Jason and Suzanne are very easy to work with, listen to my ideas and provide good advice, counsel and suggestions for our multi-acre home. Jason has worked with us to resolve a very tricky water runoff issue that has involved installing dry creek beds and running a large culvert under a driveway, successfully channeling the water across our property while creating an aesthetically pleasing solution. Most recently, he and his crew installed a curved rubble knee-wall adjacent to one of the creekbeds; I'll be planting several dozen dahlias there this spring. Suzanne has worked with us to landscape our home and to consult with us as we've expanded our gardens and other plant installations. Her work has provided practical and attractive suggestions that have preserved and enhanced the existing trees and native plants here, as well as expanding our use of native plants. She's also been extremely attentive to hearing my input and discussing options that are in line with my ideas while bringing her knowledge and expertise to create a sustainable landscape design. Art of Stone Landscape delivers beautiful work on time and on budget. That's why I keep going back to them for my hardscaping, landscaping and gardening work.

To quote Mike Holmes, Jason and his team always “make it right”. This my third project and still satisfied. I would not have trusted anyone else with this project. This project addressed a sinkhole cavity under my front porch and a diversion strategy for all the water, plus other odds and ends. Art of Stone Gardening is always on my speed dial.

Jason was selected to replace a retaining wall that collapsed after heavy rains. This large masonry wall ran along side the driveway. The height of the wall ranged from 2 ft. up to 12 ft. and measured approximately 110 ft. long. We decided to replace the wall with an Anchor Diamond Pro modular wall. From start to finish Jason and his crew worked diligently to get the job done in a timely manner and make it is convenient as possible for us to use the driveway during the process. He was thoughtful in the way that he staged the materials trying to keep the job site clean and accessible. He is very attentive to detail and communicated well throughout the entire process. A very pleasant experience. His knowledge, professionalism and quality set him apart from other companies. I felt like he did everything that he could to make sure that we were happy with the job when he finished and we were! I would highly recommend Jason and Art of Stone for your hardscaping needs.

Suzanne and Jason Brosche were a pleasure to work with. We wanted a low maintenance backyard with minimal grass. Suzanne designed a plan and we were able to make adjustments as the project moved forward. Our backyard was not able to be accessed by any equipment like a bobcat to carry all the pavers, stones, and rock. Everything was moved by wheelbarrow and hand truck. Jason hand picks the stones used for the steps and they are beautiful. I had some large autumn ferns that were to be transplanted but that was not a good idea with the summer heat. They took the plants and will keep them alive until the fall when they will bring them back to plant them. Everyone who worked on the project was very pleasant and had the best attitudes. No request was too much trouble. We are very pleased with our serene backyard.

Jason and his crew have done several hardscape projects for us over the years. His prices are reasonable and projects wrap up quickly (weather permitting). We love our back patio, retaining wall and front porch steps. The porch steps were literally falling away from the house! Now they are double wide and perfectly match the house. Looks great.

Jason Broche and his crew were hired to take out a retaining wall 6 feet high and 50 feet long and replace it with Alan block wall much higher. Results were GREAT! VERY SATISFIED. The new wall was built with meticulous craftsmanship, and as well as built for strength, it also vastly improved the landscape of my property and house.

I cannot say enough positive things about this company. It started with a stone retaining wall at the end of a pool build. Unfortunately, we ended up firing our pool contractors at the end of a growing list of issues. We were left with a beautiful fiberglass slide that was not steep enough. Out of 15 pool companies, none we’re willing to come out and redo the slide. Very discouraging. Jason offered to take this on. He and his crew did a phenomenal job. He found and repaired several leaks in the slide once they exposed the underbelly, raised the slide 2 feet, removed the original boulders and completely redesigned the stone walls on the side of the slide, the stone stairs, and made a path for my children to walk under. Suzanne is in the process of installing our landscape, which looks beautiful and is exactly what we wanted. In addition to excellent workmanship, Jason and Suzanne are very knowledgeable and easy to work with. They showed up when they said they would, worked hard, were honest, and charged us a fair price. Their crew is respectful and courteous. My 9 yr old daughter even befriended a member of the crew named Robin, and they would exchange jokes and puns while Robin worked. Also, Jason and Suzanne know other great companies in north Georgia that we have recently used (irrigation, fencing, etc.). We will use Art of Stone for all of our future outdoor projects!

Art of Stone was hired to install a 22' x 20' parking pad with a 4' stone threshold. They also added a 5' stone threshold to the entrance of the existing garage. Jason was very detail oriented, timely and communicated throughout the entire process. We are very pleased.

New front steps were installed with stone to replace our old "unsafe" steps. The old steps were removed and disposed of. The new block structure, Centurion and Oklahoma natural brown flagstone looks amazing. The whole process went smooth with no problems and the crew was very courteous and professional. The owner oversaw the whole project. Very pleased and would highly recommend without any hesitations!

A round flag stone patio (approx 22 ft diameter) with a large stone fire pit int he center and a stone wall 2/3 around patio. They had to dig out and level the ground first and fill with crushed stone. Jason kept us informed and his workers were pleasant and very hard working. I would highly recommend their services.
