Azman Architects

Azman Architects is an award-winning practice known for producing striking contemporary residential and retail buildings, the bespoke remodelling of sensitive listed properties and streamlined furniture design. Established in 1993, from the outset Azman Architects gained recognition as a pioneering practice, with a reputation for clean-cut, contemporary design and minimalist remodelling of period properties. Bold interventions helped them change the face of older housing to deliver contemporary living. Their first project - the refurbishment of a Grade II listed house in 1995 – was described by the National press as ‘innovative and ground-breaking’ and led to a series of comprehensive refurbishments across London. This included the RIBA award nominated two-storey glass extension for Isabella Blow and the RIBA and Civic Trust Award winning ‘concrete house’, a private home built in North London. As well as residential work, Azman Architects has worked on a number of impressive commercial office and retail projects. The practice’s philosophy of delivering projects that are personal to the client, whilst still reflecting the practice’s vision for a contemporary solution, is also utilised for these large-scale projects. The practise secured a commission with the Victoria and Albert Museum, designing an exhibition for a retrospective of the work of iconic British designer Vivienne Westwood, and also created the café at the Royal Institute of British Architects. Each project is hinged around an idea, one that goes to the core of the context and brief. The practice’s work is characterised by meticulous attention to the detail of a project. Their focus is on refining design ideas to arrive at a solution that is architecturally coherent through to the successful delivery of the project. Each decision has a purpose and is achieved through careful analysis of the brief and context, with the aim to be timeless.
