California Construction has done 2 major renovation projects for us. The first was a 3.5 bathroom remodel and upgrade and the 2nd was flooring and stairs remodel and modernization. The team was very professional, clear lines of communication and discussed options when problems arose. We were not nickel and dimed for small changes we wanted to make as the projects progressed and we had ideas. They are a bit more expensive than other quotes we had but the quality of workmanship and the project management was top notch. All in all 5 stars.

I really wish I could have had a remodeling experience closer to the reviews. I think all remodeling can be a nightmare but I had a terrible time with what should have been a small project. My remodel included: removing carpet and tile and installing engineered hardwood everywhere except bedrooms; painting cabinetry; and a remodel of the primary bathroom. - They pestered me early on for when bathroom fixtures I ordered would be delivered so I ordered everything early to make sure they weren’t blocked but then things like the tub and fixtures sat for weeks in my garage. - As for ordering materials, I have 8 boxes of white bathroom tile left (I could do a whole other wall!) which includes additional tiles the contractor ordered when my original order would have been enough. Meanwhile, there are no extra bathroom floor tiles, and just one piece of hardwood flooring left. - I asked for slow close cabinets, but they were unable to find the hinges to do it. Yet they continued to buy $1200 in new hinges and billed me to replace them with exactly the same hinges. They should have asked if I still wanted new hinges when they couldn’t find slow close hinges for my cabinets. - The original estimated time frame was 6-8 weeks. I noticed most things were mostly done by around week 5. Starting week 7, I was told things would be completed by “this week”. I would go check on Friday and things remained unchanged and unfinished. Week 9, they started promising “tomorrow”. I had to move carpet installation, painters, and movers multiple times because they did not complete by the dates they were telling me at the time and the other vendors needed lead time. - I moved in a few weeks after all the work was done and noticed some issues that I didn’t notice when just walking through: a sink plug wasn't installed correctly; the microwave wasn't installed correctly; there is a gap in hardwood floor by the dishwasher so I can see cement flooring. When I called to see if they would come take a look, I actually got yelled at for asking for more things since I had already “signed off” on the walk through. They did send someone to fix the microwave, but they still have not fixed the gap in the hardwood floor. Every remodel goes over and will cost you way more than you think. But the process ideally shouldn't be this way. Definitely been unlucky in the remodel and what happened but I am also not happy with how I was treated especially given how much it cost for this small remodel.

California Construction Bay Area did an outstanding job. We remodeled our Kitchen, Bathroom and installed new floors and it looks amazing. Johnnie the project manager, was on top of everything. He is detail oriented and pays close attention to quality. He definitely went above and beyond to make sure our new Bathroom and Kitchen looked perfect. He was easy to get a hold of, even in odd hours and made sure we were always up-to-speed on the progress of our remodel. Johnnie was great to work with and he made super creative to re-design our funky kitchen and bathroom layouts and it came out perfect. When picking materials, colors, etc, he is patient and gives his honest opinion - which is super important because you don't realize how many little decisions there in a remodel. It was nearly a month ago that we contracted California Construction to do a complete kitchen remodel. I didn't write a review right after the kitchen was finished because I wanted us to live in it for a while to try it out. Johnnie was our project manager and he came by our house, listened to how we wanted to change the floor plan to create more room and openness. He had the floor plan drawn with a representation of the kitchen. It was exactly what we discussed. He kept us informed of next steps in the project, was always there to answer calls or texts and kept the tradesmen on task. He did a fantastic job as did all the workers. It started when scheduled and finished on schedule. We spent a little more for this project than most would consider, but the extra costs associated with hiring California Construction is well worth the staff professionalism, skilled tradesmen and on time delivery. California Construction has completed the bathroom and it is amazing. Pretty much more than we can ask for. All we wanted was a functioning bathroom again and that is exactly what we got and more. Great experience with a bathroom remodel and partial kitchen remodel with California Construction. Johnnie the project manager, was especially helpful in planning the remodel, going with me to pick out the fixtures and materials to ensure they would work and look good. The workers were on time, cleaned up every day, were courteous and respectful of my property. They did high quality work with a minimum of disruption. Above all they finished on time. The company was not cheap, but they had the requisite bonding, licensing, etc. that gave me confidence that the work would be completed and done well. I was pleased with the choice I made after meeting with 4 potential contractors.

California Construction did a beautiful job remodeling my bathroom. David was the project manager. The team was amazing. David is very friendly and communicated nearly daily. He was always available when I needed him. He helped me stay within my budget. He even gave me ideas and tips on how to keep costs down with big purchases such as the vanity, however I often went with more expensive "upgrades" due to my own desires. He has many contacts and was always able to point me in the right direction when I was making a purchase. David did fabulous detailed and beautiful work and really tried to stay within the timeline promised. Of course this rarely happens in construction but I didn't mind that it took an extra week because they always listened and responded to my ideas, minor changes and requests. The bathroom turned out just how I had envisioned it. I love everything about it at this time. I would definitely call California Construction for my next project!

We hired California Construction for 3 bathroom remodels in our traditional 115 year old house. They were professional, detail oriented and great communicators. Going with a design build company minimized our headache dealing with contractors/subcontractors, and the subs were well vetted and did solid work. David (our Project Manager) ended up on the job for close to a year because of the complexity of the plumbing and construction of our old home, and quite a few additional projects we tacked on. He was always friendly and responsive, and David was patient, creative and a problem solver on our job. Although its probably more expensive to hire a design build company than trying to manage yourself, for us it was well worth it.

Firstly, we couldn’t be more pleased with the work carried out and the final result. We’d never undertaken any significant construction work before, so we didn’t really know what to expect. From beginning to end, I've been impressed with California Construction Bay Area thoughtful and creative approach to the renovations we've done on our home. He was present all the time from the first consultation to the final inspection. He gave us advises and options to fit our needs and budget. I’ve had the best experience working with Ezz on my home projects. I found Ezz on Houzz, and didn’t quite know what to expect, since I’ve never done a home improvement project before.
