Color in Space is dedicated to providing architectural color tools and guidance for the often overwhelming task of choosing paint colors. We provide pre-packaged color palettes in Benjamin Moore® Paint for sale on our website. While choosing paint colors definitely has an element of subjectivity, there are also some guidelines and principles based in physics. Because color is light reflected back to us, we can look to science to explain much of the phenomena we experience with architectural color. As a former educator, our founder Emily Lauderback Stewart has developed a methodology that uses the scientific basis of architectural color and allows the spaciousness for homeowners' individual taste and subjectivity. She likens the experience to creating music: we need to follow some rules like choosing a key and time signature, but then the selection and composition of the notes is the art. Emily's color consultations and pre-packaged palettes combine the scientific principles and the subjectivity for incredibly beautiful results every time. Emily Lauderback Steewart is the founder of Color in Space Inc. She also works independently as an architectural color consultant and designer, with a focus on kitchen and bath design.

I have admired Emily's work for years, so when it came time to update our kitchen, we turned to Emily for guidance. And that is precisely how she approaches her work; guiding you through your choices based on her vast knowledge of color and her ability to see both the big picture and stay focused on important details. Emily helped to design the flow of our kitchen (small, challenging space) and that aspect of our remodel has been critical. Our contractor and cabinet people agree that her design was by far the best; thought was given to every inch of space. We used many of our favorite belongings to create a beautiful color palette that we continue to use to make choices for furnishings. Having that packet of paint colors with me as I make decisions has been SO helpful - I always know I am choosing something that will integrate beautifully into our home. Emily also put us in touch with incredible vendors and professionals! It was liberating to get OFF of Pinterest and rely on Emily's expertise. Our kitchen (and other rooms for which we sought Emily's advice) are absolutely gorgeous! We are SO happy with our beautiful kitchen and color palette! Put down those paint chips and include Emily in your project - you will be thrilled!

After finding Emily's website and reviewing her pictures I decided she looked qualified to come out the house for an interior consultation. When Emily came out, I was in the process of preparing to do a kitchen remodel and completely overwhelmed. Her goal was to make the whole house feel like it flows together the new and the old. She was able to look at my existing valances to come up with a color in it that could bring everything together. We picked colors that were in my family room and kitchen to come up with a palette. Then we carried the colors around the house to decide what should go where, as we went into my living room and put the colors over my couch we discovered that those colors were also present in it as well. She said that it was common for that to happen, but still I was shocked. She was able to suggest floor colors and grout colors as well. My house feels like it really flows with colors I love and feel at home in. I always carry my paint colors around with me in my purse, referring to them with every decor purchase. Emily's service may not have been the cheapest, but it was SO worth the money. I highly recommend!

We are in the process of building a new home. After wracking my brain with numerous trips to the paint store trying to select colors for our home that would all flow together, yet stand alone, I was beyond ecstatic to stumble across Color in Space online. I contacted Emily and explained the feel we were looking for. She suggested two of the color palettes that would work together very nicely. For $25. per 12 shade palette grouping ... I figured I'd give it a try, it's more reasonable than hiring a decorator ... which is the point I was at. WOW!!! This was the best $50. I've ever spent! We have found these palettes to be so invaluable in tying together all aspects of our home environment! Not just for paint, but to blend furniture and accessories as well. While we've been going through the building/shopping process, the palettes remain in my pocket book at all times, and I can't tell you how often I've whipped them out in a furniture store ... to the surprise, and compliments, of jaw dropping salespeople. It simply takes the guesswork out of knowing how well your home will blend together. I recommend these palettes whole heartedly! Thank you Emily!

I used Color in Space to help select the paint colours for our newly re-built family cottage. I was looking for a warm, rich palette that was both earthy and summery and that would flow together in the semi- open concept plan. I ordered two palettes, "cabin" and "bungalow" and they arrived within 3 days to Canada. They were exactly what I needed, providing a range of complementary colours to select from; and after putting together a vignette of our flooring and other elements it was easy to identify the perfect colours - all from the "cabin" palette. I watched the colours evolve over the course of a few days and then gave our contractor the information. The painting is now complete and the colour looks and feels exactly the way we had hoped, and is just beautiful. I also did a phone consultation with Emily which was extremely helpful as well, and I would highly recommend the service!

I think a lot of thought, technology and artistic know how went into developing these pallets. I purchased Bungalow and Cabana for $25 a piece. Although I do enjoy the pallets I'm not sure I'm getting $50 worth of use from them. I wish the Bungalow pallet included one or two lighter colors as the pallet is rather dark as a whole. Conversely, I wish the Cabana pallet included a suggestion that would "pop" the pallet . Overall, however the pallets do offer a comprehensive "feel." They a certainly are a good starting place!

Emily is a talented experienced color professional. Last Fall I had the pleasure of painting one of her projects in the Mt. Baker neighborhood in Seattle. The owner wished to preserve and feature the unique architectural elements of his 90 year old craftsman. Emily translated the owner's vision into a 7 color scheme that the owner loved and the neighbors appreciated.
