Fleetwood Windows & Doors

Can you believe Fleetwood could not make a functional single hung window? Two of the 34 windows purchased for my home were single hung windows. Fleetwood realized the challenge of making them was beyond their capability so they discontinued them around 5 (Five) years ago. The removal system for the moveable panel is broken! Fleetwood is UNABLE or UNWILLING to offed design details so I can attempt repairs or actually remove it. All in all, the company is a joke, and that statement is supported by the kludge they came up with to keep sliding doors from bowing to the point they would not close (the door frame was bowed too much to fit into the frame enclosure).

As a licensed architect with over 30 years of experience, my advice is to avoid Fleetwood Windows at all costs. They are very expensive but the quality control is terrible, the hardware is very lightweight (and cheap). The anodized finish is extremely fragile and CANNOT be touched up!! I just spoke to the rep for the Southeast Jim (Sensitive Information Hidden) and he admitted that once the finish is damaged you must replace the frames. The customer service is awful and the Pella installers (here in Nashville) were just terrible. Architects and homeowners be warned!!

Horrible experience with Fleetwood. We spent around $26K on new windows and sliders for our home, opted for the "higher end" Fleetwood windows based on sales rep. 18 months later I'm laying in bed and all of a sudden the glass in one of the sliders shattered. Nothing struck the glass, it was only the inside pane that broke into a million pieces. We reached out to Fleetwood for their warranty and they told us that "it does not look like spontaneous breakage" and have ignored all of our messages. They have not responded to us at all and have not been willing to even send someone out to take a look. We're now having to replace the glass in our $3K slider that is less than 2 years old and Fleetwood's customer service is non-existent.

This company is very unprofessional. Their lifetime warranty is fake. We recently had one pane on a glass sliding door (8 years old) spontaneously explode. Fleetwood admits that this can happen…but in their policy they will only pay for half. Crazy, right? Oh there’s more. Then, we need to independently hire a glass person to verify and submit a claim for that half to be approved and paid. It’s already been 2 weeks with a dangerous unusable door that spontaneously broke. Fleetwood also does not keep records of their products. They do not want to do customer service. They want you to deal only with the showroom that the items were purchased from. This leads to difficulty with getting your contractor to remember and finding that showroom. And then getting that showroom to find your sale and argue on your behalf with Fleetwood. Why should this showroom and my old contractor care about this when they’re not being paid - and it’s not their product? Yeah I don’t know. So I have to call them all repeatedly. I can only conclude this rat race is meant to dissuade people from pursuing their warranty. This is sounding like a scam, no? What professional company doesn’t serialize their products (to track manufacturing errors) or accept responsibility when something is manufactured incorrectly? I will never purchase from Fleetwood again.

What can I say about this atrocious company? We ordered windows back in august. They have been delayed over and over again. They blame it on COVID delays but be honest up front. Our house is completely open- cannot live in or close up the house because of these delays. Months and months and months without a primary home for us and our children (and pets) to live in. The regional VP called us and said he would do all he could do to help us. So far, our dates only Got pushed out further. When you pay over 80k for a few windows you expect decent service but it’s been awful. We flip several homes a year & we own design businesses as well as a mortgage company. We have already told several customers who asked us who to use for windows “we cannot advise Fleetwood at all”. I hope the company understand how deplorable their service & lack of care is & how much business they are going to lose between us and our contractor never ever being able to recommend this company again.

I can honestly say I am disappointed with this company. We ordered a very expensive amount of windows. They have been so delayed we cannot move into our home. We are literally going to be homeless soon as we sold our primary since we were given a timeframe for delivery weeks and weeks ago and our new house is sitting just waiting for windows. We call our rep and it’s “so sorry”. We called the warehouse and it was “nothing I can do”. They said we would for sure start to get windows by Nov 18th. That came and went and no word. Nothing. I went with them because it was “American made” and they pressed no COVID delays yet failed to mention that parts they need come from Germany so the extra money was pointless. I will update my review if I get a single bit of good customer service from this company. Furthermore I advised that we would be homeless and it was urgent and that I found another company to fill the order could I be refunded and they said no, I lose all of my money.

I spent nearly $100k in Fleetwood doors and windows for our remodel. Unfortunately, they sent the wrong colored hinges for the bifold doors, we are still missing screens for only the awning windows (which were never delivered) and the screens for the sliding doors do not stay closed with a poorly designed mechanism. It's not ideal with wind blowing and slamming the sliding door screens open and closed all day. I have been getting the run-around for months to get this resolved with no success. Would not recommend this company to anyone doing a remodel. I'm sure there are better high-quality window/door companies out there.

We spent over $80K on an entry pivot door and three cantilever door systems. The Pivot door has not operated as designed since the installation, the mechanical door stop does not close, and leaves a gap at the bottom of the door. Golden State Lumber in San Rafael, CA has not responded emails and multiple voice mails, they acknowledged the door has an issue and disclosed another customer is having the same issue. The doors look sleek, which is the reason they were chosen, but if they cannot operate as designed, not worth the money, as they charge a premium. If the doors worked as operated would gladly pay the price, but at this price point it is only a headache.

Having your licensed contractor, installer and sales representative on the same page is the key to success! Absolutely spectacular job. Started with my contractor Rich at Construction Management of San Diego that recommended Chris & Byron at Doors Ect. Rich reviewed the scope of the project and reviewed the site with Bryon the installer and did the measurements and discussed the challenges and set the expectations. With the advice of Rich & Byron we sent the measurements over to Chris and discussed the products I was looking for. We went with the amazing Fleetwood windows. The house was built in 1960 with a second story addition that all hangs over a canyon. So there were challenges that were addressed up front and the corrections were made to make sure all the windows were installed properly. Working from home I was able to watch every step of the entire process. True professionals and local good people. Very organized on the work site and cleaned up and organized every day. To me that is important.

Our Houston home builder installed Fleetwood custom-made six-panel sliding pocket doors approximately 10 years ago. One evening, we broke the lock while the doors were open. The latch would not retract, so we could not close the doors completely. The next morning, I called our Fleetwood regional distributor, whose number was on-line, to get a referral for a repair company. The distributor was in his car driving from Dallas to Houston for a business meeting. After his meeting, the distributor himself braved the Houston traffic and drove to Home Depot to pick up some tools and then drove to our house. He proceeded to take the door apart and repair the lock in the 100-degree heat. He could not have been more friendly, kind and considerate—even though this delayed his return to Dallas by several hours—and he expertly repaired the lock. We were just hoping be able to close the doors by the weekend, and instead they were completely fixed that same day. The distributor also refused payment! This, by far, is the best customer service we’ve ever received!

Big problem with dissimilar metals touching causing electrolysis. The company tried to call it corrosion and would not cover under warranty. The product is built with high quality fixtures and strong aluminum. The problem is in the manufacturing and assembly. No Satisfaction received from Fleetwood

In early 2012 we hired Priority Door & Window Products in San Diego to help us replace all of the exterior windows and doors in our 1958 Mid Century Modern home in Mount Helix. While it is a fairly small home, it has 6 sliding patio doors, 2 butt glazed raked corner windows, a 5' x 5' hopper window over the kitchen sink, and two locations where glass and windows embed in a stone wall. Fleetwood provided outstanding support for a large residential remodel that started with replacing all their main floor windows that look out onto the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, adding an all glass kitchen nook, and 10 foot high patio doors; one that is 17 feet long. They were so delighted, they replaced the lower level windows and added 5 more patio doors. The result was so stunning, they decided to replace all the windows and doors in the rest of their home and pool building.
