Mike and the Heartland design and construction team recently completed a total home remodel for us, including raising a ceiling, moving walls, all flooring, complete kitchen, 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. From the beginning, with Nathan assisting us with design, through 9 subsequent months of putting it all back together, we have ended the project with our vision and dreams for the property fully realized. Throughout the process, the Heartland team was positive, professional and very responsive to our ideas, concerns and any needed adjustments to the plan. When it comes to honesty, commitment and a desire to do their best for the customer, Heartland Home Improvements delivers on their promises. We recommend them highly to anyone needing a quality contractor for a remodel project large or small.

We have used Heartland for three projects. 1: Replace an enclosed shower about 2021. 2: replace our porch decking, substructure and columns (the roof was in fine shape). This was done in 2022. And 3: install an ADA compliant wheel chair ramp up to an existing deck, which was done in one week in November 2023. I have found that Heartland does excellent work, the guys show on time and get right to work, there is little or no wasted effort and all workers were very pleasant indeed to work with. Everybody knew what they were about and things cooked right along nicely. The office staff is also very great to work with. All the jobs were done well and we have had almost no issues on any of them. We did have to call them back on the deck project due to some ground heave that caused the step railing to disconnect. They responded quickly and got it taken care of and it still is okay one year later. The shower door kit also leaked in a couple places, but this was a complicated door kit and since I have installed it on a prior project, I realized what was amiss and just recaulked it myself. I am quite sure that they would have come back to do that too, but I didn't think it worth the drive out to Burns, KS which is where we live. I have found these people to be very honest and a real pleasure to work with. We plan on using Heartland in the future to install a deck on the south side of our house. I cannot be too specific as to cost comparison vs. other contractors. We did take an additional bid on the shower replacement (which was our first project with Heartland) and these other folks quoted a cost over 2.5 times as high. That said, I consider the costs for all three projects well in line with the norms and considering the honesty and quality of work, I see absolutely no reason for complaint. One last hurrah for Heartland. My wife had a sudden need for the wheel chair ramp and Heartland was able to work with their next client who agreed to set their project back by a week and they were out here within about two weeks after the initial contact. Note that the ramp wasn't quite the simple installation as the existing steps had to be trimmed away and some existing deck railing removed. This was done to allow some step access in addition to the ramp access. To sum up. Honest and does high quality work. What more can you ask for a contractor? Jim Kinkaid Burns KS

Heartland is connected with great subcontractors that support them in at least two trades that we recently needed: Heating and Air, (for a new garage heater with sealed combustion chamber) plus Wrought Iron Railings (for pair of handrails on our front porch). We also like the way the Heartland carpenter installed our new pull-down attic stairs, and the way they found a fabrication shop to produce the new corbels the carpenter installed to protect our faux beam ends beneath two of our gables on the front of our home. We are happy customers here!

I had Heartland Home Improvements remove a double sided fireplace opening up my front room to my dining room, new flooring, finished ceiling, plus new counter tops and back splash. They did an outstanding job, in a timely manner with no surprise costs.

Heartland recently completed an extensive project for us which included: remodel of master suite, remodel of two other bathrooms and laundry room, addition of a bathroom in the basement, installation of wood, tile, and LVT flooring throughout our entire main level, and repair of several instances of water damage. Heartland’s planning process took time, and we saw that as an asset. All decisions were made and details worked out before the contract was signed. As a result, the actual remodeling process was low-stress. Because of the thorough advance planning we had virtually no surprises. The results exceeded our expectations. We came away from this experience with the utmost respect for the folks at Heartland and for the way they do business. We found Mike Gatschet to be candid, fair, honest, and careful. His staff’s interactions with us reflected these qualities. Every single Heartland employee who was involved in our project - from design to extensive contract planning to execution - was someone we would choose to work with again. They were professional, accomplished, and reliable. We already have another project on the horizon and there's no question we will use Heartland again. Highest recommendation.

Kody was friendly and professional. He kept the job site clean and tidy and finished on time. Kody did a great job and the flooring is beautiful. We hope he is available when our bathroom project is started.

Heartland did a 3 window install for us. We’re very happy with the windows and the installation process, and highly recommend them.

We had Heartland design and construct a front porch addition, hang new siding and new windows. The cost was more than we expected at first, but they worked with us to see where we could "compromise" and ended up with a budget we both agreed upon. At the end of the project, the cost was exactly what they said it would be. I have worked with many contractors where you get the bill a month after the project is finished, and it's 150/200% higher than the number you thought. Other than financials, the craftsmanship was excellent. I'm very happy with the work and the quality. Last, they have an in-house drafter/designer (Nathan) that will show you what your project will look like (to-scale) at no cost to you. Nathan was the starting point and we loved working with him. I had interviewed architects/designers before calling Heartland and they wanted $3,000-$5,000 just for a drawing. Heartland has the designer and computer software in-house to allow clients to see the finished product.

We hired Heartland to tear down and replace the front porch on our College Hill home. Mike worked with us closely to ensure the modern aesthetic we wanted would blend well with the historic nature of our house and neighborhood, and gave us lots of options to help us manage the budget. Everyone we worked with communicated well, followed through on times and dates, and were just a pleasure to work with. The porch is almost 10 years old now, and we still get people who stop us in the yard and tell us how much they love our porch. I recommend Heartland whenever people need a contractor, and plan to hire them again the next time we need work done.

Mike and his staff were very professional while addressing some structural issues at our home. Curtis, our carpenter, was great at explaining what was going on, what to expect, and made us feel safe and comfortable with him in our home, even when we weren't. He even helped catch one of our dogs when she got out! Will use them again and highly recommend them.

Heartland listened to what was needed and was very prompt in getting a stair lift installed for my parents. The technician was very professional and the lift has functioned exactly as they were told. I would recommend and hire Heartland Construction again in a heart beat!

Heartland was very careful to listen and address my specific requirements. Not only were they very careful to assign probably one of the best lead carpenters (Sven) who was very careful not only to fulfil my requirements, but he fixed my bathroom if it were his bathroom. He found several original errors that were left from day one (poor insulation, plumbing) and previous owner repairs (shoddy woodwork under the stool). He took the time to methodically clean all plumbing so when the new shower/sink fixtures were installed, everything worked tip top. Jack and I walk into our bathroom with much joy and satisfaction. Even my little beagle was ready to go home with Sven. Excellent work. Complete satisfaction. Enough said!

Heartland Home Improvements built a dividing wall for us on the 2nd floor of our 110 year old Victorian home. They matched the woodwork perfectly. Rachel, Israel and their crew did a fabulous job. I will hire them again!

I have worked with this company for two remodels and have been very pleased with their expertise and flexibility to work within a variety of budgets. Their process has you select the various materials and items to be used in your project upfront so that they can give you an accurate estimate of your total cost before starting. No surprises and no allowances to work within, but an estimate based on what you have chosen. This gets you invested in the project early on and allows you to make changes based on your budget and personal preference of what items are important to you. Items are ordered and on hand before work starts so there are no work delays and projects can be finished on time, professionally and without as much disruption as possible.
