We met Nancy over three years ago when we started thinking about remodeling our kitchen. Right from the beginning we knew we had met the right person for the job. She guided us through the long process of planning with patience and understanding. Her professional skills speak for themselves through the beautiful designs she creates. Every person we’ve met through Nancy who represent the Heartwood Kitchens team are equally wonderful. In four months, our kitchen was finished and the transformation is incredible. When we purchased our new home in September 2020, we knew our first project would be the kitchen. With our kids descending on us for the Christmas season we wanted to try and have it done by then. Nancy was nothing short of a rock star helping complete this project. Nancy's original plans and tweaks were done within a very quick timescale to let us get the work started. From start to finish Nancy and the Heartwood Kitchens team were responsive and on top of every detail. We had some young friends come visit and when they walked in to the kitchen they stated "this is like a dream kitchen", and it IS, it's my dream kitchen. I would 100% work with Nancy again and have not an iota of hesitation in recommending this company.

Working with Nancy and Sherry from Heartwood Kitchens was a great experience from start to finish. We completed a large kitchen renovation including removal of a wall and adding a pantry. We are so glad we got the chance to work with Nancy at Heartwood Kitchens! She was very patient and thorough during the planning and design process and came up with multiple layouts for our kitchen remodel. I was nervous about a couple of elements with the layout (would there be enough passing space?, would the vestibule to the porch look funny?), but Nancy assured me that the proportions were plenty and the vestibule was the best solution for our limitations. Not only was she right, but we love everything about this layout! And the vestibule adds architectural interest to the kitchen. Every day we comment on how perfectly the kitchen was designed and what a dream it is to live here. Nancy was able to put us in contact with an amazing construction team. Darren and his crew executed the job (including a powder room, laundry room, and other updates) with great attention to detail. We couldn't be happier!

We just completed our third project with Heartwood Kitchens and couldn't be happier. Nancy and the team are such a pleasure to work with. Their amazing design skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication not only result beautiful, functional, and liveable spaces, but also make what can be a complex and overwhelming undertaking a breeze and even lots of fun. In this recent project, they helped us to completely reimagine our space in an 1889 former cow barn. We moved the existing cramped galley kitchen to another area and created a large open kitchen and dining space. From the former kitchen we created an awesome pantry and a much-needed office. They offer top quality products and access to a cadre of great vendors and contractors. Thanks to the team for another great renovation. We are now cooking up a storm again!

When I became owner of my family home, a 1963 ranch in RI on Aquidneck Island, I contacted Nancy to discuss renovating the original kitchen. We worked with Nancy at Heartwood to design our kitchen, and we purchased a beautiful set of cabinets there. When we bought our home, we knew that the kitchen needed to be blown up and rebuilt from scratch. It was cramped and used space inefficiently — and terribly outdated. My wife and I both like to cook, so it was a priority for us to make the space something that we’d love. Because the kitchen was relatively small, we thought the perspective of a kitchen designer would maximize the room’s potential. We are very happy with the design that Nancy gave us. It has transformed the space and made the kitchen the highlight of our home. Over the course of a few in-person meetings, we collaborated with Nancy to overhaul our entire kitchen. She took into account how we cook and hoped to use the space, and she also worked with our contractor on details. Nancy was creative. For instance, she recommended removing one of two side-by-side windows and shortening the remaining one, which allowed us to make use of an entire wall on one side of the kitchen. Nancy also visited our property at least three times, including the day our cabinets were delivered. With Nancy’s help, our kitchen is now more functional and welcoming and will be a space that we’ll enjoy for many years.

We recently completed a renovation of our kitchen, laundry room and half bathroom. Heartwood Kitchens did an incredible job. Our cabinets are beautiful and the quality is excellent. They were extremely knowledgeable and were great to work with. They created a beautiful and very functional kitchen. We love our new kitchen. Nancy was a pleasure to work with and gave us great options/ideas to choose from as she was designing our kitchen. She was very patient and pleasant throughout the entire process and we incorporated almost all of her suggestions. We also used her husband Paul as our GC and he was fantastic to work with. Nancy designed our cherry kitchen 23 years ago. We were thrilled with the results at the time, and it served us well over the years. We were planning to upgrade our kitchen, and after reviewing the options and the costs with Nancy, we decided to do a total renovation. Nancy came to our house to discuss options, including asking us what we wanted in a new design. She came up with a great, totally new design with white main cabinets and walnut island cabinets. The new design replaced our old peninsula between our kitchen and family room with a very large island. We also added a larger picture window and removed the wall between our kitchen and dining room. The result is a much more functional space with lots of light, plenty of storage and lots of room to work and entertain. Nancy's design addressed all our needs. She gave us great recommendations for storage, appliance ideas and great options for cabinet styles. Nancy's attention to detail is amazing. Her design used every inch of space effectively. Working with Nancy and her team is a pleasure. They are always pleasant, professional and thorough. Nancy and her team are always patient in responding to our many questions and provided prompt responses. We also replaced the cabinets in our bathroom. We first heard of Heartwood Kitchens a few years ago when we registered for a tour of homes in Melrose that had their kitchens renovated. Nancy Hanson of Heartwood Kitchens was the designer for four of them. We met with Nancy in January of 2017 at her showroom in Danvers, MA, looked over the different types of cabinetry and arranged for her to visit our home and discuss renovating our kitchen and half bath. During the visit, we discussed new appliances and she recommended a company in Dorchester, MA. She also recommended a company in Salem, MA for bathroom fixtures. Once we picked the appliances and bathroom fixtures out, she proceeded to create floor plans showing the location of cabinets, appliances, doors, windows, and bathroom fixtures. We could not be happier with our new kitchen and half bath and we would not hesitate to recommend Nancy to anyone looking to totally renovate or make a few changes to their kitchen. We would also highly recommend her husband, Paul Hanson who served as the general contractor. The subcontractors he hired and Paul's work were top notch.

We were fortunate to work with Nancy Hanson on designing and remodeling our kitchen and bathroom. She was extremely professional throughout the project. She took a lot of time with us at the start of the design to understand exactly what we wanted. She explored several options with us, taking into account our feedback to come up with the perfect design for us. I would use this group again. It was difficult to make some decisions on a project this large. I loved having different options included in the 3D models so that I could have a better feel for the renovation. The plan book was very helpful and assisted us in making sure that each step was appropriately followed. Nancy was always available and made herself more available when we needed it most - including being present when the cabinets were delivered to make sure that everything was correct. I can't thank her enough. I would absolutely do business with them again.

We worked with Nancy and her team at Heartwood to design our renovated kitchen and select our cabinets, and could not be happier with the result. Nancy made a couple trips to the house in the design phase to make sure all measurements were correct and we had the layout we wanted. We selected one of three suggested layouts, which worked perfectly for us and really opened the space in our old home. The project required a full gut job of the kitchen, dining area, and mudroom/laundry room, and Nancy recommended a contractor who ended up exceeding all expectations. Our contractor Darren and his crew were professional, organized, and efficient, and even stayed ahead of the promised schedule. Most importantly, the work was top quality. Nancy showed up when the cabinets were delivered to check things over, and the installation was seamless with the other work going on. We have been enjoying our new kitchen for a few months now, and have hosted lots of friends and family--the compliments from our impressed visitors never stop! We highly recommend Heartwood based on the great end-to-end care they showed for our project and for their design insights. The team had great patience in letting us make the right selections for us over multiple showroom visits, all with an active toddler in tow (there is a cabinet in the showroom stocked with toys which kept our little guy busy each visit). Although the project cost a good deal more than we had intended, that was mostly due to our underestimating the construction costs of a full gut job (and knocking down a couple walls), and not due to the design and cabinetry, which we feel was worth the money. Heartwood has a book of some projects of different scales they did that can help you estimate what a project might cost. Overall, we made the right choice, and we'll enjoy our new space for years to come!

We recently did an entire house remodel including our kitchen and baths. Nancy at Heartwood was an absolute pleasure to work with, as were co-workers. Nancy came to our home and took measurements and made plans based on what she saw. She worked with our contractor to get measurements just so and she worked with us on creating the right design aesthetic for our home. Nancy kept us abreast of the progress of our kitchen and was there the day the cabinetry was delivered to make sure everything was perfect. We recently used Nancy at Heartwood Kitchens to design a gut kitchen remodel, for cabinets and to help coordinate countertops. Heartwood did a lot of things well on our project and we were pleased. They communicated clearly with everyone involved in the process and they got all the little details right. Most of all, they provided an excellent design, sold us good cabinets, and did both at a fair price. Ultimately, we love the kitchen we ended up with and we highly recommend them. The very first time we met with Nancy she took the time to listen to what we were looking for and came up with some creative suggestions that were within our budget. Throughout the process, Heartwood, and Nancy specifically, was seemingly always available to answer our questions. She kept to the promised timeline and was instrumental in helping us find a contractor (who was absolutely fantastic!). She also had established relationships with other vendors that helped us move the process along. What really stood out were their detailed designs. We were initially hesitant to pay for a design fee upfront but in retrospect, this would have been money well spent even if we had bought cabinets elsewhere. It was clear to us that her design was superior to designs we had done elsewhere. In addition, their software produced a much better graphical rendering. In turn, this helped us visualize the end result and gave us confidence to move forward with the project. Lastly, even though the Mouser cabinets we selected were at the lower end of what Heartwood offers we never felt as if we were being pushed towards higher priced option or received less attention because of it. They look great, function really well, and seem to be built very solidly.

We decided to work with Nancy and Paul on our Kitchen project after a brief visit to HeartWood Kitchen. Nancy had some excellent ideas the minute she walked in our home which we would have not thought of on our own despite having done extensive remodeling of our 100+ year old home. The bottom line is the kitchen layout, cabinet recommendations and final product exceeded our expectations. My wife and i are the type to get very involved in the layout/design and Nancy was very open to our preference here. Paul did an excellent installation job as well. We have had many people see the end project and were also very impressed. We will be remodeling another home on our property and plan to use Heartwood for the kitchen and cabinets in other parts of the house.

I called Nancy Hanson to help me rework my kitchen 20 years after Heartwood had designed and installed the cabinets. Nancy helped me select new knobs and pulls, and she ordered new cabinet parts to make repairs and adjustments to aged cabinets. Paul Hanson repaired the cabinets, where needed and installed all the new hardware. My kitchen is restored and looks like new. I am a happy returning client to Heartwood Kitchens.

We hired Nancy of Heartwood Kitchens to redo our Kitchen. The existing kitchen was about 20 years old, dated and we were ready for an update! Heartwood Kitchens was recommended to us by a structural engineer friend of ours who had given us some initial ideas about how to update our kitchen space. As soon as I walked in the showroom, I felt like I had found the right company to manage this renovation, as I loved so many of her display areas. I did “borrow” one of her kitchen design ideas from the showroom, and I get so many compliments on it. I have already recommended a friend to Nancy, and I expect that I will be doing it again!

Worked with Heartwood Kitchens to reconfigure our kitchen and laundry room. Began with paying for a plan for the project. It was the best money we ever spent. The owner, Nancy Hanson helped us think through 4 different plans and ultimately suggested moving the Windows to a new location in front of a corner sink that solved many of the kitchen glitches we were experiencing in our old Kitchen. She also designed an attractive hutch which resembles a fine furniture piece. We could of taken the design to Home Depot or another kitchen store but working with Nancy was such a pleasure and she was so knowledgeable that we decided to go with her cabinetry brand. The high end cabinets we used in the kitchen, while quite expensive, are very high quality. She and the cabinet maker addressed any flaws found in workmanship without complaint. The lower end cabinets in the laundry are fine but are not as well made. We decided to step down in the cabinet line for the laundry to save money to pay for more detail in the kitchen project which was more visible.. Nancy helped us keep on track with the ordering process to make sure things ran smoothly and as quickly as possible. We had our own installer who is fabulous but it was Nancy who helped us keep on track of timing. She even loaned us an electric skillet to help out while our kitchen was under construction.

Nancy and her husband are incredible! We had searched out several kitchen designers and cabinets. We were recommended by a friend to go meet with Nancy, she was so patient and kind with us, (esp since we had our little one it's us all the time). She really took the time with us to answer all our questions and work with our budget to get the kitchen we desired. We are so happy with our kitchen and the design is perfect! No regrets! Not only is the quality awesome, but the function is great too! I highly suggest having Paul (Nancy's husband) do the installation because he did a great job and on as very particular! We want more cabinets in other places of our home just because we love them so much!

We bought a 1730 home and hired Paul and Nancy Hanson of Heartwood Kitchens to tackle our plans to redo a seriously outdated kitchen (think red linoleum and formica counters from the 1970s) and a really tired mudroom. Additionally we wanted to replace the sink and vanity in our upstairs master bathroom. Our goal was to bring the kitchen up-to-date and redesign the mudroom (which doubled as a laundry room) and connect it to the family room. We needed to install a door between the mudroom and the family room. The ancient floor was to be replaced with tile. Easy, right? A tough job because nothing in an antique home is square, level or up to code. Nancy and Sherry helped with the envisioning, the selection and the design. They were great at listening to everything we had to say. Nancy's recommendations gave us much to think about and much to choose from. We had at least three completely different designs to select from and ended up altering one of them to meet our vision. The kitchen is north-facing and was dark, dark, dark, even at noon. We selected Mauser semi-custom cabinets in alpine. That was the easy part. We spent hours considering floor tiles, countertops, backsplash tile, lighting and colors. There were additional challenges because we live in a Historic District, there were limits and restrictions on all exterior work. We went to replace the mudroom door and had the building inspector say "Good Luck - you gotta go to the historic commission." So we jumped through the hoops because we wanted to do things correctly. The real work began when Paul started the demolition of the old kitchen. It's amazing the stuff you find and the problems you uncover when redoing a 1730 home. He served as our general contractor for the job and brought in his highly skilled electrical subcontractor, plumbing experts and one of the best tile men in the Boston area. The work had to occur in a specific sequence before the cabinets could even be delivered. The wiring and electrical service was a nightmare and we got used to having "Uncle Al" - Paul's wonderful electrician - in our home for days on end. The electrician spent a lot of time in the basement reworking and upgrading the electric. Sure, they could have done the minimum, but they didn't. They made sure the wiring was done right. Same with the plumbing. Once the old flooring was up, we discovered ancient 22-inch wide pine planks that were in horrible shape. Paul went to work in the basement, fixing and correcting the ailing floor and bringing it up to snuff so that it could handle the new tile and the cement needed to level the room. The difficult task of laying the tile and getting it level in the kitchen and mudroom was the next step. Paul's subcontractor is one of the best and the floor came out amazing. It was the only thing in the house, at that point, that was level and square. When I saw the finished tile floor, I knew we had selected the right company to accomplish this difficult task. The cabinets came and were installed, but it wasn't easy. Paul had to adjust walls so they'd be square. He also had to work extensively with the ceiling so there wasn't a gap between it and the crown molding. Then the countertops had to be measured and cut to fit. Installation was, like everything in this project, a challenge. But the tops looked great when they were finished. Then the appliances, all new, were delivered and Paul helped line them up and hook them up. Paul was asked to add a doorway (to the mudroom) and eliminate a door in the kitchen to allow for more counter and cabinet space. He did an amazing job with both. The kitchen doorway to the dining room was covered on the kitchen side by the new cabinets and Paul took one of the old historic doors and modified it to enclose the old passage way to create a closet in the dining room. He accomplished this by adding an arch to it and making it look like it was originally built that way. Paul's handling of the mudroom really showed his meddle. He built a laundry room enclosure for our stacking washer-dryer and constructed a soffit that handled not only the dryer exhaust but also the venting of the new stove. The results were above our expectations. The once shabby mudroom is now efficient, beautiful, friendly and makes a great first impression on visitors. "Above our expectations" pretty much sums up how we feel about Heartwood Kitchens' job at this old historic home. The project was completed on-budget and basically in six weeks. We couldn't be happier with their work or our new kitchen-mudroom.

All the folks at Heartwood were very nice and easy to work with. I had preconceived ideas for my kitchen, and Nancy helped me refine a few and bring them to reality. She also came up with a whole new concept for a tricky corner intended for storage, which became a beautiful hutch with counter space and lots of drawer storage, tying in very nicely with my country design. Of note: Their carpenter is a master craftsman: beautiful work.

My husband and myself worked with Nancy Hanson of Heartwood Kitchens on the final design and product for our new kitchen. We were removing our old kitchen and expanding the space so a new design was needed. We came to Nancy with plans and a set budget and explained what could and couldn't be changed. Heartwood Kitchens just completed our kitchen renovation. The project included design work, moving load bearing walls, new plumbing and electrical, and cabinet installation. Nancy Hanson did a fabulous job designing my new kitchen. She is very creative and is a very good listener. I thought she gave advice without being overbearing. She also helped throughout the project even with kitchen items like the granite that have nothing to do with the cabinets. My project went very smoothly which I think is, in part, because Nancy is so detail oriented.

I looked for over a year for a kitchen designer that I could work with. Everyone I encountered didn't appear to be excited by the project, giving me few designs to choose from and disregarding budget.
