James Girouard Design

I saw James Girouard ‘s work in three houses and a doctor’s office before I was able to have him work in my own home. I had suffered several losses and Jimknew I wanted a fresh start in my home. We met and talked several times about the extent of the work I wanted done and finally after these meetings Jim made his suggestions. My entire first floor was to be opened with raised ceilings in the kitchen, new windows throughout, a completely remodeled and enlarged bathroom and my bedroom doubled in size by taking out a wall. After that Jim handled the rest of the project to completion. Hie hired the best general contractor who, with Jim , supervised all the labor and construction. Then the project really became fun for me. We talked many times before the actual shopping began and when it did, it was pure joy. We started with the kitchen and bath selecting tile and fixtures. The combinations of color and textures as well as the quality of the actual materials was amazing. Picking out granite and marble was a little tricker because Jim always took my budget restraints into consideration and worked within my parameters. We shopped at 3 or 4 different locations until the perfect granite and marble was discovered....clean, modern and breathtakingly beautiful. Floors were next...hardwood stained a beautiful gray tone that everyone comments on. Jim was there every step of the way. He was at my house for every delivery: inspecting everything , and making sure every detail was perfect. He chose wallpaper for my bedroom and bath...both highly textured,..that was custom made for my rooms.. it is unique and gorgeous. We are now at the final stages of my remodel which took a 60 year old traditional house and transformed the entire space into an open, light, contemporary beauty. I Truly enjoyed working with Jim. I am grateful for the amount of patience he displayed during this process, the friendship we cemented, and the professional way in which he handled the financial aspect of this job. He is a man of great talent, extraordinary vision, with a deep commitment to each of his clients. I would recommend him without reservation.

I'm a kitchen designer that recently worked with Jim on a major residential remodel project. Jim has impeccable taste and was a pleasure to work with.

I have been working with James for many years. My firm makes all the custom drapery treatments for his interior design projects. I have always admired his talent, but was particularly impressed during our last project together at the Jaffe residence in Virginia Beach. His design vision went way beyond mere paint colors, fabrics, carpets and furniture. Everything melded into a complete and seamless vision from one space to the next. I was astounding that not a single tiny detail had been missed or neglected. James takes on the "role" of architect, builder, landscaper, stylist and even psychologist at times. He took a very ordinary, dark and broken up interior and made it into a gorgeous, elegant, open and airy home by knocking down walls, enhancing ceilings and lighting, moving and designing the perfect open kitchen, covering surfaces with unique materials, ad infinitum! I can not say enough wonderful things about this particular project nor of James' talent in general. Any prospective client would be greatly remiss not to hire him.

Jim designed my entire first floor many many years ago...?15-20 I love my home today as much as I did at that time. It is timeless. It is warm,open concept (ahead of its time). The colors are neutral so will never be dated. Everyone that enters my home loves it!! More recently Jim decorated the upstairs. Everything is perfect! I have referred many friends over the years. Their homes are completely different styles and Jim can do it all!!! He also is extremely easy to deal with... no drama! He has decorated my husbands 2 offices. One is 16 yrs old and is as beautiful as my home!!!!

Jim is ever-so-talented and wonderful to work with. He helped us design our NJ house from the ground up--before the foundation was even laid! He worked closely with the builder and architects to build our custom style home, changing a traditional floor plan to a contemporary one. Jim is great at visualizing space and doing creative things with it--together we worked on all exterior and interior finishes. He even designed an entire room around one piece of furniture we were determined to incorporate--and it is a stellar centerpiece now. He has a great eye for color and design and works with the client preferences--even helping to negotiate differences between husbands and wives, lol. We took many trips to showrooms together--it was fun and a learning experience all at once. We love our home many years later--even the color of the walls, which is an unusual seafoam green. Jim repeated design motifs (a ziggurat shape) in various locations in the house. Our builders said it was the most unique home they ever built--and one they would be happy to live in!

Jim was a pleasure to work with. He is a total professional in everything he does. He is extremely creative and innovative. We loved what he did in our house.

Jim helped us to create an elegant, contemporary home that is also comfortable and a great entertaining space. He listened to what we were looking for and guided us in selecting a gorgeous combination of fabrics, textures and materials that created the "wow" we were looking for. JIm gives 150% and is very "hands-on". He treated our home as through it was his own. His wallpapers are incredible-unique and exquisite. We love our new home!

My 3 bedroom condo was completely renovated. I didn't know where to start. Jim took control with ideas and yet listened to my preferences. His experience proved his judgement correct in the final outcome. I also used many of his company's original hand-made wallpaper coverings, which really enhanced the entire look. A great job, well done.

James has re-done our entire home since we purchased it in 2003. We started with our dining room, powder room and then a construction project for our master bedroom, his & hers bathrooms and a wonderful custom walk-in closet. These rooms were all over the top! Then 3 years later, we did the 2nd floor bedrooms, bathroom and the most amazing project that was our new kitchen. Hard to believe that we "topped" the "over the top" from 3 years previous, but we did. It's truly magazine stuff! Then finally, in 2012-2013, James helped us complete the home by re-doing our TV/family room, new fireplace, all new lighting plans, wood floors, etc. All in all, it has been a wonderfully positive relationship - from both sides.
