Capitol Closet Design

We moved into our condo in January 2015. We had 4 closet design companies come to our home and create designs. Capitol Closets came in with the most affordable quote by far. They drew up plans for our master bedroom closet, guest bedroom closet, hall closet, and an empty awkward space that was destined to be a built in bookshelf. Ultimately, after all our moving expenses settled, we couldn't afford this. We held off until November 2016 when we were able to get the hallway closet and the built in bookshelf. Both were done amazingly, especially the bookshelf which needed to be cut to a custom shape. Finally, in October 2017 we were able to pay for the other two closets, one which was fairly standard and the other, a walk in, which required some custom shaping. It was extremely affordable ($3500 for both closets) and we love them. The work is great and there's lots of little features we love like built in tie racks and belt racks. They did a great mix of drawers, shelves, and hanging space and absolutely doubled our ability to store things in our closet. It has completely changed our apartment. They didn't even have to come back and measure, they just pulled up the plans we originally made 2 years ago, honored the price quote from that time and came and built it all in under 5 hours. Overall, one of my favorite things about them was that we basically called several times to book the project, but delayed it because our dog had to have an expensive surgery. They never got mad at us for saying "I'm sorry we just can't do this right now" and when we finally did say we were ready, they were fine with it. They were understanding of the fact that things happen and projects get pushed back. If I ever need any other custom work I'll call them, but for now we're pleased with all of our closets!

Great experience from start to finish. Our new closet exceeded all expectations. It not only looks amazing but it also is functional in that I can see and get to everything. The installers showed up right on time and were very professional and efficient.

After getting bids from two companies to build my new closet as part of a larger renovation, I choose Capitol Closet because their design more closely matched my vision at a reasonable price. Their sales team is exceptional, albeit very old school (hand drawn designs versus 3D CAD renderings), their production team is not good. They told me it would be a clean 2 day install. After day 2, there were doors missing, some doors without glass, several design elements overlooked, such as the jewelry drawer inserts, locks for the jewelry drawers, valet hooks, tie racks installed instead of scarf racks, missing lights, etc. The crown and trim were sloppy and the window benches weren't benches at all. To their credit, they did finally fix most of these things over the ensuing weeks (not days!), all while telling me that it was useable, therefore it shouldn't be a problem that it will take them awhile to get it fixed. When the final doors were delivered - which were delayed because I had ordered solid wood doors - they were a different color stain than all the other doors. In addition there were two other outstanding items that needed to be fixed. They agreed to send someone out, but didn't and then I never heard back from them, it's been six weeks. While their designs are good, their attention to detail and customer service is not. Buyer beware.

After meeting with a couple of other closet companies, I chose Capitol Closet Design. Prior to contracting with them, the designer had come out to my home twice and I had met with her in their showroom. She made me feel confident with their product and expertise. I had a lot of questions and definitely took my time making the decision to hire them. The first install did not work (it seems that doors were not made to the proper specs, holes were drilled where they weren't supposed to be and some other issues) and they had to remove the entire system and reinstall. When they reinstalled, there were parts that were reused that had holes were they shouldn't be, scratches, obvious seams in the crown and caulked patches on the actual closet material. There were also holes put in the wall that I had to have patched and painted. Shelves were not flush, shelves were not level, part of the supports were wedged on the floor with black rubber pieces and just left that way, and there were visible gaps and seams where the closet pieces met each other. The ceiling was damaged in multiple spots (which I had to get patched and painted) and one of the light fixtures was hit and fell on the floor busting and leaving gauges on the hard wood floor. There were also items that were not in stock and couldn't be completed. When we hung up our clothes on the poles, they started falling out of the brackets because the technician doing the install didn't know that they needed to be secured with a center screw. After expressing my displeasure to the designer, she, the production manager, and the owner wanted to come out and look at the issues. But in the meantime, they charged my credit card that was on file from the deposit the completion balance of nearly $8000 when the job was not even complete. The owner did not show up for our meeting, but the designer and production manager did. They offered some solutions to "band-aid" the issues. They blamed a lot of the issues on walls not being square (but really, what room is completely square and my other system that was in this room did not have these issues). Finally, after 2 months from the initial install, the rest of the parts came in to finish the closet. The owner, once again, was supposed to come out to make sure that the fixes discussed in the meeting went well but he did not show up. The installers finished the job. But there are still issues. Example, the top doors were supposed to open out but were manufactured to open up which required them to come back out and install arms so that the doors would stay up when opened (the arms do not hold the doors up). It has been nearly 3 weeks since the "completion" and no one has reached out to make sure everything went well and to make sure that the project was completed as planned and expected. While my closet looks nice when glancing at it, the craftsmanship is poor and the experience of spending six days of my time for an install that they originally booked for 2 with a $16k price tag makes me regret choosing them. I was willing to work with them because I understand that things happen in construction but the fact that NO ONE from the company could even send an email or a simple phone call to see if everything went ok during the installers' final trip is ridiculous. I would not let them back in my home for anything else. I am cutting my losses and taking this as a learning experience

worked with Capital Closets a few years ago to transform a spare bedroom into a closet/dressing room. The project was extensive, nearly six figures in cost. I have to admit that the closet is beautiful, however in the process of their work, an expensive item was broken (with no restitution offered) and I needed to have a few adjustments made that they agreed to complete. It has now been nearly two years and I am still waiting for them to respond to more than 10 emails/calls from me to complete these items. I am now at the point of calling another company to complete the job Capitol Closets was paid for! I have completely lost confidence in their ability to do what they say they are going to do. The craftsmanship was good, but I'm so disappointed in their customer service and lack of follow through that the best I can give them is one star.

I just had my master closet redone. The results are incredible! It took about 1 1/2 weeks from signing the contract to install. The installers were very friendly, fast and efficient. Came on a Wednesday and knocked out the old closet. I painted on Thursday, and they installed in a couple hours on Friday. I have a smaller closet but they were able to work some of the bells and whistles in- jewelry drawer, a safe to lock up personal belongings, shoe storage galore for me! My husband has his own shelves and cubbies. My only complaint is that I was told this new design would get me about a foot more hanging space. But when the closet went in, the design was slightly altered and my angled corners that were included in the design are not included in what was installed. So after measuring it appears I have the same amount of hanging space, if not a few inches less. But all in all, if I ever have the money again to splurge on organizing, I would definitely hire this company again to do our other closets and the garage!! They were great!

This job was for a client whom wanted a lot of storage and very nice look. Capitol Closet was able to create the optima space with great details. Workers were very professional and timely. Use this company all the time on my jobs.
