We hired and paid J.R. Moorehead to install windows, and renovated my bathroom about 7 years ago. He was a family friend and claimed he could do the work I needed. It was a difficult time as my wife was going through chemotherapy and J.R. would frequently use this fact over the next 7 years to establish trust and friendship with me. Every time I spoke with him, whether it was professional or personal, he would say “I was there when your wife was going through cancer and I feel like a part of your family now so I will always look out for you guys.” This could not be further from the truth, as when I first came to him with the major leaking problems in my windows and the mushroom growing out of my ceiling, he defensively told me it was not his fault and he knows he did the work well. I offered to pay for whatever was needed to fix these problems and he then sent his company (which he started a few years after doing my job) to help figure out what was wrong. They constantly were telling me that they have 3 other big projects going on so it may take some time (also showing me where I was on the priority list). After weeks of waiting, this company said they would not help me with any of the problems, only do the drywall when everything is finished. At this point, I had no idea how many things J.R. Moorehead had done wrong in the work I hired him for 7 years prior, so I just chose to drop it and realized he was not as interested in “looking out for my family” as I thought. After months of mold removal, plumbers, and multiple contractors, it turns out that he did numerous negligent things to my house that caused over $30,000 in damage and repairs. Every single one on these contractors provided statements that showed the poor workmanship that led to all of these problems over the years including -Not installing a shower pan (not up to code) -Drilling into the base of widows to secure -Covering the weep holes where water is supposed to come out -Installing the windows flush with inside of the house instead of the outside These mistakes were so obvious to the professional contractors, that they were shocked and suggested I file a RICO and hold him accountable. This has caused me months of a chaotic house that is a construction zone and a great deal of money. When I realized how poor his work was, I contacted his company who took no responsibility and hid behind lawyers and the fact that he was not licensed at the time of doing the work (a fact that I, as a naive new home owner, was not aware of). J.R. himself never once talked to me after my initial call, and hid behind his company. I cannot help but feel taken advantage of by J.R. and his company, as he could have done the right thing at multiple steps, but instead is trying to save face and money by not taking ownership of his poor workmanship. We had a small bathroom project, to remove a large jacuzzi and reuse the space as a makeup vanity. It required building a tile pony wall, installing glass, matching existing custom baseboard along with some other updates. Moorhead handled our project professionally, met their commitments and timelines and communicated proactively during the project. I would use the company again for sure!

Moorhead and Company builds high quality projects with their clients needs in mind. It has been my privilege to photograph their finished projects since 2016. I have photographed a wide variety of residential projects for them; from whole house ground up builds to kitchen and bath renovations for stand alone properties and condos. Their projects continue to impress me. JR Moorhead and Company recently completed a major renovation project in our house, including 3 bathrooms, our master bedroom, and outdoor lanai cabinets. JR was actively involved in planning the project, and his scheduler Sherrie coordinated the job as we went along. The lead carpenter was Art. We particularly appreciated close communication with Sherrie and Art as we went along, so that any potential problems were nipped in the bud and we ended up with exactly what we wanted. Now, whenever we walk into the renovated parts of our house, we just smile in appreciation of how nice it feels.

We decided to go with Moorhead and Company after looking at a few contractors for what we saw as a pretty big renovation on our home. From the first meeting we appreciated JR's professionalism, attention to detail and wanting to understand exactly what we wanted. He was very knowledgeable in all things renovation and was able to help us with things we may have not thought of otherwise. The contract process was not rushed and at the end JR made sure we included everything we needed. We were assigned a PM, Sherrie, and she was friendly, knowledgeable, present and available whenever we needed her. The timelines laid out in the contract were accurate. The only changes to the original cost were for changes we decided on. From beginning to end we were well taken care of. Everyone went out of their way to accommodate us as best as possible as we had some family health issues going on at the same time. We were a challenge as there were 4 family members who were all involved with this and the team always made sure that we could meet together, even on some off hours. Sherrie was excellent at keeping us updated on the progress along the way. We felt more like family than people who just met. Great company, great people, excellent work, reliable, no surprises. I (and my family) highly recommend Moorhead and Company for any renovation/construction projects you may have. You will not be disappointed.

Having had a very negative experience with a prior contractor, we were concerned and cautious in selecting a new one to do our kitchen renovation. Luckily, we found JR Moorhead and Company. JR, the owner, is true to what he says and is sincere in his approach to business and is also personable to work with. From start to finish, JR made sure that we were happy with the service and the quality of work at all times. Inevitably, when doing a renovation, unforeseen snags can occur. JR and his associates always made sure to consult with us and remedy or improve upon situations to our satisfaction. We were very pleased with our renovated kitchen and would use JR Moorhead and Company’s services again.

My carpet installation had to be done twice. Poor installation. They did not fold over the carpet when meeting the tile. Upon vacuuming the carpet edge pulled out throughout the house. Windows were mounted with various types of screws. They drilled through the bottom frame and we had a leaking window. I had them change the screws to be all consistent. I had them use caulking on the screws to prevent any leakage. Upon final payment he did not get the house inspected even though he said he did so I paid him. I ended up paying someone else to get the work done correctly and the permit signed off. Instead of 4 months, it took nearly a year.

They were very professional & answered all my questions. They also followered up after our initial appointment both with email and phone calls. Unfortunately we had to put our remodeling project on hold so we have not used their actual services.
