They provided great ideas to address our specific brief. Once underway they had great drawings and 3d pictures to fully explain were th design was heading and we were kept informed so we could make the right decisions. I approached Ben Mountford of Mountford Architects to design and manage the construction of a small house for 1 person in retirement. It was exciting to see the first of Ben’s hand drawn designs evolve into floor plans and elevations of the house which was going to allow me to live the way I wanted to once I'd ceased full time work. I had given Mountford Architects an exacting brief, not all of which was feasible on my budget, but almost all of which was delivered in the final design. I looked forward to my regular meetings with Ben and his team where challenges that arose were resolved cleverly and creatively and the materials and finishes were chosen to suit my budget. During the construction phase, I spent every second month working in a remote location. While I was keen to stay connected with the project while away, time and distance offered little scope to resolve major issues should any arise. The regular phone calls and emails about project progress were important and the onsite meetings during my time back in town ensured no last minute decisions were necessary while I was away. As good as they are at laying down the specifics, plans and drawings can never capture the reality of space and volume, sunshine and shadow, warmth and breezes. The finished house fulfils the promise of the plans, allowing me to live and entertain in a simple, beautiful, functional space. I’m thrilled with the outcome.

We wanted to renovate our 1930's cottage however we were completely lost with how to go about this or where to start. We went through the Archicentre WA where we had a consultation with Ben from Mountford Architects. Ben came and reviewed our home and presented us with an overview of options. From this we decided to go ahead with the concept presented and undertake a complete renovation. We were completely happy with the service provided from Ben and his team from design concept, selecting a builder, monitoring and management of build progress right through to build completion along with the after completion support. We would definitely recommend services provided by Mountford Architects.

We gave Ben a relatively small renovation and budget and he created a living space that caters to all our needs. We wanted to add on a kitchen/living area and en-suite master bedroom to our original 50's cottage in Joondanna. We also wanted a large outdoor area, without losing too much of our garden space. Many ideas that Ben provided were a necessity of our tight budget, however they turned out to be a real asset (ie the sealed concrete floors that have now become so popular). The main feature of the build, four huge ceiling to floor cedar sliding doors (3m H * 2m W), are a magnificent change to predictable bi-fold doors and continue to "wow" everyone who comes into our house. We found working with Ben to be a very easy experience. He listened to our requirements and provided designs that used carefully chosen materials to achieve all our needs. even though the size of the build didn't require him to project manage, he still was available to answer all our technical questions. The end result is we now have a house that our family loves living in and our friends love visiting, a wonderful mix of old and new, practical and edgy.

Ben and Emile worked on the design of my own house for the past 10 months or so. We decided to go with Mountford Architects as we had noticed some of their work around Perth and really loved the contemporary feel to the designs whilst still maintaining the feeling of a home. From the moment we sat with Ben, our scope and design specification has been listened to and incorporated into the design perfectly (even with our multiple changes). The site is pretty tight in comparison to what would normally come through their doors but they have worked around that really well and included everything we have asked for. I would be more than happy to use Ben and his team again in the future (and most likely will) and can definitely recommend Mountford Architects for your next design.
