Peter Reader Landscapes

The newly planted garden looks magical already in the low winter sun. I'm really looking forward to caring for it and watching it grow. The planting scheme is complex and really required expert knowledge and a great eye. The new structure will help us use the space differently.

Peter’s designed transformed my small garden terrace that was previously a small-ish patch of concrete and is now a tranquil, interesting, modern space. It feels as though a completely new room has been added to my property and I can’t wait for the spring to come to spend more time there. Peter was really great to work with; I felt as though he thought about my space as a one-off unique project in developing a beautiful design including constructed planters, paving, decking, lighting and planting. He also listened to any feedback I had along the way and looked to accommodate it so that I was completely happy with the end result. Peter managed the entire project, selected landscapers who did an incredible job of executing his design, sourced all the plants and accessories and overall made it an incredibly easy and enjoyable process. As well as being a great designer Peter is also calm, professional, innovative, responsive and overall just a really nice person to deal with - I cannot recommend him enough for anyone looking to do a garden project.

It was such a pleasure to work with Peter and I would recommend his services without reservation. He is such a patient person and a really great listener. I felt like he listened carefully to what I wanted to achieve in my small 12 meter by 3 meter urban garden and then responded with a design that exceeded my expectations. The plot had several technical difficulties including some large lime trees which meant both roots and shade covered one end of the garden. Even worse, the apartment complex I live in had put two large manhole covers - one of them set in an odd and offset way - and Peter figured out how to use a hardscaping design, involving a combination of stone and brick, which successfully disguised these. I ended up with a classical design - no grass (at my request) - and an interesting variety of planting, including three dwarf trees. We did collaborate on the plant choices, but only because I was interested in doing that. Although the planting isn’t mature yet, the design is really elegant and I have had lots of compliments on it. Peter also liaised with my gardening team, ordered the plants, and provided an extensive “care plan” for after care. I couldn’t recommend him more highly.

Peter helped me design my garden in West London. With a few vague ideas from me he designed a wonderful garden for the space, making use of the different levels and (lack of) light. Anything I was initially unsure about, he would say "trust me it will look great" and he was right. I get complements about the garden the whole time and I have recommended Peter to friends. As a first time gardener, he really explained things very simply and the outcome was just what I was after.

Our garden was a building site covered with lawn. We now look out and see a transformed, inviting space. Peter created a magical space for our growing family to enjoy. He was attentive to our needs and always available to answer every question. The entire job was executed beautifully with a high degree of professionalism. I highly recommend Peter.

It was a real pleasure to work with Peter on a complete redesign of my garden including extensive planting, stonework and electrics. I found Peter very knowledgeable about every aspect of the design. He is not only adaptable but also clear sighted and methodical in his approach, from the first designs to the execution. Peter was a pleasure to deal with - he is a true professional and very helpful and knowledgeable. We have always enjoyed spending time in the garden but were never quite satisfied with it as we had just planted things randomly and there wasn't much planning or order to the garden but we also were very keen to screen the neighbouring house which overlooks the property. Peter did a very detailed plan for us and was very happy to tweak bits that we wanted. His attention to detail is exceptional and gave the gardeners very clear guidelines to follow. We were introduced to Peter via a recommendation from a neighbour who had been very happy with his work. Peter has been wonderful to work with from start to finish. He takes the time to really listen to the client and remembers everything we wanted to achieve when planning the design. He is a wonderfully talented designer and I was so excited to see the design! Peter's knowledge is second to none and was so helpful when the work was carried out, advising us on everything from the right paving stones, plants and small details of the design. Our garden hadn’t been touched in 15 years. Peter listened to us and combined with his vision, produced a plan for a beautiful contemporary garden. He worked with us from inception, with the building contractor until completion. It felt like a partnership, explaining how things would work, making small adjustments along the way, connecting with various contractors and suppliers and keeping an eye on progress. We were right to put our faith and trust in Peter and are super happy with our new garden.

My garden was a mess having been neglected for several years and I wanted to start again from scratch but needed some new ideas after the previous 'cottage garden' look. Luckily for me, Peter was recommended by a couple of friends. He was a pleasure to work with because he listens to what you want and comes up with lots of ideas and comments without trying to steer it in any particular direction. I gave him a very high level idea of what I was ater (fragrance, looks good all year, 'an orderly space for disorderly plants'). He really came up trumps with the design, and also gave me some good ideas on materials to use. He realised before I did that I wanted to do a lot of the planting myself but also gave me some great suggestions for architectural plants which I would not have come up with on my own. The result is a really beautiful garden which will change with the seasons but always have something of interest. I am absolutely delighted with it.
