Andrew Megginson Architecture have provided me with professional Architectural services for my house extension, renovation and refurbishment project - the development of a 2 bed bungalow into a 5 bed bungalow! From my initial meeting with Andrew, through design development, achieving Planning Permission and now Building Warrant Approval, Andrew has been superb. He has a friendly, knowledgeable, pro-active approach and has suggested alternative designs and material choices along the way, making the final design a cost-effective, efficient and overall great looking design. Possible design consultants for Structural, Mechanical & Electrical design were also suggested, but without pressure to employ any of them. All of my design aspirations have been incorporated, and it has been a real pleasure to work with Andrew during the design phase. Andrew Megginson Architecture are just a phone call or e-mail away, and have always responded timeously to my many questions - Andrew even responding when he was away on holiday! Andrew has suggested possible build contractors and provided answers to my cost, programme and construction questions. I now embark on the construction phase of my project and look forward to continuing to having Andrew by my side during this phase to guide me through and to continue to offer his expert advice and support. Andrew did the architecture work on our recent house renovation and has done a really good job from start to finish. Initial meetings with him were great, and he really understood what we were looking to to with the property which required a significant amount of work. We went through a few different iterations and came to a design that worked for us. Throughout this what really impressed me about Andrew was his proactivity and helpfulness in answering questions from both us and the builders we were speaking to. We also really liked his transparency in pricing, and knew exactly what we were getting from him and how much we were going to have to pay in advance of committing to using him.

We chose Andrew as our architect for the ground floor restructuring project at our house. Within a fairly short period of time we agreed an innovative plan that we felt would work and provide us with what we were looking for. Andrew arranged all the necessary surveyors, council permissions etc and in a relatively short period we had the builders in to start the work. This was all achieved around the time of Covid lockdowns ending. Once the building work was completed, Andrew arranged final approval from the council. It was great to have not only our ground floor redesigned but Andrew took the responsibility of dealing with the relevant bodies to ensure compliance. We would have no hesitation in recommending Andrew for anyone who might be looking for an architect.

Andrew has been amazing from the moment our builder put us in touch with him. He listened to our ideas, what’s important to us and how we live as a family. Andrew created an amazing new floor plan for us, incorporating our ideas with his. He has dealt with all building warrant and planning applications, keeping us up to date with progress - a huge weight off our minds. We are at the end of the planning stages of our project with Andrew , with building beginning, hopefully , in the next few months. From the outset communication to and from Andrew has been quick, easy and professional , but also friendly. He listened carefully to our ideas and requirements for the project , analysing the ‘ how’s and why’s’ with us , of enlarging a bedroom/ bathroom conversion that already exists in the former attic space. Andrew presented three drawings offering options and with each he detailed the advantages / pros and also the building difficulties that may exist for each option, but with the caveat that they could be overcome and detailing the potential solutions . Andrew’s attention to detail at the planning application stage was outstanding , enabling the quick resolution of a problem cited by the Edinburgh Planning department. Recently he has offered us three recommendations for structural engineers , allowing us the flexibility of choice. Ours is a very modest project but Andrew has impressed with his very professional attention and his insightful architectural skills. We look forward to the next stage of the project under Andrew’s guidance.

We first met with Andrew and started discussing plans before the Spring 2020 lockdown, and Andrew has been a reliable and reassuring presence in our home plans throughout these strange and difficult times. It's impressive how diligently he has worked on drawing up our ideas and taking us through the process of realising what we want done to our new home and how best to achieve it. As well as taking us through the planning permission, surveys, etc., he has made contact with a number of contractors on our behalf - no easy task given the backlog of work that the industry is trying to catch up with right now. AMA were initially hired to assist with submission of a building warrant for our kitchen renovation. Andrew introduced us to a structural engineer and the warrant is now submitted. Andrew has been very professional at all times and is an excellent communicator. Whilst the process is still at a very early stage, he has suggested some good ideas for the project.
