ZH Design

We are a 30 year-old Homeowners Association. Our Landscape Committee sought to rejuvenate our aging landscape. ZH Design was the winner of our design competition, in which six other local firms participated. We determined that 12 distinct areas would need a facelift in the next five years. ZH was instrumental in prioritizing these projects. Zach Hammaker presented his artistic concepts and drawings to the entire community. The response was extremely enthusiastic. Zach also prepared a comprehensive 120-page Plant Palette Book with his recommendations on which ornamental trees, shrubs, ground covers, perennials, and ornamental grasses are most appropriate for our landscape. Homeowners have a wide range of individual choices that will fit the overall design for the community. In addition to the work ZH Design is doing for the community, individual homeowners have hired Zach's firm to design, retrofit, and install individual preferences. Zach is a good listener who knows how to articulate, visualize, and incorporate homeowner preferences into his designs. Zach has demonstrated that he can work with diverse and divergent ideas while providing guidance on how to reach our overall objectives.

I thoroughly love being in and looking at my garden that Zach designed and installed. We had new landscaping put in all around our house. Zach is a very good listener and heard our likes and dislikes and what we wanted the plants to do. He made an overall plan and worked with us to implement it in phases. Zach is very professional and uses topnotch subcontractors to get the job done.

Zach Hammaker has transformed our property and transformed our vision for our property. He has a professional approach and is a good listener, and took our lead and in many cases gave us exactly what we wanted. However he is also confident in his own style and his own vision, and he isn't afraid to share that in such a way that it was enlightening and exciting. He changed our minds and opened our eyes to options and styles that we wouldn't have thought of. He knows his business and is passionate about it, and that shows in his work. He is on time, on budget, works well with other members of the project team, and takes true pride in what he is creating. I am sure we will go back to Zach over and over again as we continue to develop our property over time.

We had Zack come up with designs and prices for landscaping our backyard. We decided to hire him after the consultation and complete the total design in phases. We have completed a walkway, fence, and some plantings thus far. We plan to continue with more plantings, and eventually a patio and fire pit. We were very happy with Zack. He was very easy to work with, presented everything in a easily understood way, gave us options with accurate a reasonable prices, let us know of any delays (some plants took longer to find), and even came back to add some puppy proofing to areas we didn't think our dog could fit through. We plan on hiring Zack again for the next phases of our backyard.

Zach did a great job with everything and my property has never looked better! I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a landscape design.

Zach worked with us to create an incredible backyard space. We had been looking for a good design for some time. He met with us and immediately understood our preferences. He was sensitive to not only our preferences, but the time and cost of the project. Very detail oriented. I have my secret garden! We also just hired him to do more work for us in the front of the house.

Zach has created beautiful landscape design for my one acre property which carefully reflects my personal taste and style. This says quite alot since I am a very active gardener with definite leanings on design. He has incorporated my ideas with enthusiasm while bringing the substance of his professional expertise. I have recently consulted him on new project in the city which I am sure will great results.

There are two reasons you should work with a landscape architect (especially Zach): - Increased property value - Increased personal joy of your outdoor living After relocating and painting a truly ugly blue shed to match the "bark" of its new environment at the edge of my property, I wanted to create a feature around it. Something that would be: - not simply interesting, but truly a surprise and delight when you encountered it - relatively low maintenance - of the property, not extraneous or "added on" - added value - able to tolerate the varying light conditions that exist as the garden meanders Zach's approach completely embodied my wishes and resulted in a warm and inviting garden space. The shape of the space is completely natural and doesn't feel "forced." The use of stone throughout was not something I had considered, but dramatically changes the interactivity of the garden, as well as breaking up the space. He brought forward a diversity to the 300 plants that went into it; allowing the space to flow across slight rise and fall of the land there. While we needed to cut back a little on the budget after the first set of plans, Zach was accommodating and willing to review alternatives. Massive neighbor jealousy has ensued. Working with Zach on future projects.

Zach provided us with a fully detailed landscape/hardscape plan for our flag stone patio, pergola, and landscaping. He was able to visualize our concept and turn it into exactly what we were looking for. His attention to details during both design and construction were very helpful. He also kept the project below the original budget. The finished product exceeded our expectations.
