Question: How do you manage your seasonal clothing storage?
Answer:
We are back from our wedding weekend and have many wonderful new memories with our extended family. We don’t see the Nebraska contingent often and that was such a treat! The children were all (shockingly) well behaved throughout and Andrew surprised and delighted us all with his dance moves at the reception.
DS1 took this photo of me outside the lodge prior to the festivities.
My dress was exactly in the middle of the road with respect to guest attire, and was cool and comfortable. Despite the 2” heels the shoes were also very comfortable for walking and dancing. The ceremony was held on a bridge over a lake so I did have to watch where I stepped. One of my sisters-in-law wore an absolutely gorgeous dress that was also in the colors of green and gold, in a long flowing style that suited her height and carriage very well. When we see the photos I will try to post one of the dress itself.
I wore green slacks and the new green and yellow sweater from Anthro to the welcome party the night before and was, again, right in the middle of the styles represented. There was everything from shorts (no tees that I saw) to sequined dresses, with most women either in smart casual slacks or dresses. Lucy wore sweet little dresses with giant bows in her hair and was much admired for both appearance and deportment, like a prize pony at a show, lol.
(Looking at this photo I see all the signs in the background from a golf tournament earlier in the day and now notice my own golf tan….darker forearms and legs, lighter shoulders and feet! Rubyclaire, I forgot to use the St. Tropez!)
After a couple of weeks or more of being pretty uninspired by the fall offerings, I have purchased a few things. All casual ... I don't have any weddings or events coming up ... and I am definitely in my comfortable, cozy zone lately. Not showing: pajamas, long sleeve tees and athleta pants and leggings.
EF .. I have been really drawn to the brown-grey colors. Neutral but not beige or grey. I'll wear this with jeans and boots. ETA I really like the texture!
JCrew Factory - fear this will be too short and trim but the review claim it runs large and I like the color.

My little project. Not artwork. Creating a missing piece of frame on a very old beveled round mirror. I bought it because I just had to have it regardless of the damage. It was made in my home state the year my Mom was born. I had never attempted anything like this before but I was happy with the result.
This is my latest creation. I made the red lamp out of cement and then coated it with plaster cloth. My inspiration was the white vase. I went through a jewelry making stint a few years ago. Some of the ornaments are from necklaces when I was in that phase. I will change all the ornaments to something larger. Not sure if I will use rocks or something else. I want mine to be as dramatic as the inspo but not weigh more than me. Those orbs are three inches in diameter but look like marbles in comparison to the size of the lamp. I think I need about a dozen of those little guys from the class that @Sueb20 is taking. Those might work and not be so heavy. 😊
I am working on a floor vase in a similar style that hopefully will be finished in a couple of days.
This is my stab at a brutalist inspired vase/sculpture. Like the lamp, I made it from cement and plaster. The cylinders are PVC pipes. It might take me a lifetime to get the paint colors right. I thought about painting it red, and still might do so. I want it to look old and carved. I'm talking about the large, brown floor vase next to the fireplace. It is about 6 ft tall and 1.5 ft wide. I did make the coffee table vase also but that was years ago.
Another vote for the Tartan - very appealing!
After reading Carol’s comment, i went back and looked at all the choices again. i have to agree that on some, the beautiful silverware does not show up as well. I think they show up best on the check and lattice. 😊

We do have a formal dining room and a table that can seat 12. The new one seats 8 easily and can scale down with the removal of the leaf to a four or five person table, should we ever need it that size.
Our former table has the long sides on piano hinges so the sides fold up onto its top. We will be using it as a sofa table downstairs when we get to that part of the renovation.

I’m late to the party but have enjoyed this thread. I have a variety of colors. It has shifted a little over the years as I’ve added more blues and greens, but I also enjoy browns, creams, a good salmon, rust, coral, and a touch of red. Leopard or tiger print in small doses. Chinoiserie, majolica, tortoiseshell, bamboo, and barley twist.
And plants. Can’t forget those.
I noticed my outfit matched my pillows, ha.

I’m late to the party too. I moved my china, etc to SC this summer and just unpacked it today. Picked the china 48 years ago and I still love it. Blue - always blue and green and red on the blue side along with off white, mocha, etc, no white and no gold, orange, etc.
The cabinets are in and I wanted to provide an update. They are from Crown Point Cabinetry (Claremont NH) and we are really happy with how they turned out.
Old fridge nook: American black walnut. Glassware, big junk drawer, cookbooks in bottom drawer too.
Old desk area: now new storage cabinet with pull out charging station which we use all the time, and SZ freezer and fridge stacks (love these, - so functional and fun).

I got 5 great tops in Niagara on the Lake in July. It was their thrift shop. $5 a piece. All beautifully made and likely washed hundreds of times. I rarely buy anything new. If it looks great in the Thrift shop it is definitely good enough for me. Saves time and money and simplifies an already overextended life. c
@mtnrdredux_gw, because I see no reason to re-invent the wheel or the prompt, I copied yours, amended it to conform to my needs and posted it with ChatGPT app. I got pretty much the same confirmation response you got. I also asked how I would be notified. The response is it would come to me from ChatGPT notification. I suppose that is the push notification. I use the freebie.

@dedtired, I hate to shop too. I’m going to a wedding in a few weeks. I’m wearing the dress that I’ve now worn 3 times (one was the Longwood GTG dinner). This will be its 4th outing. Luckily there is no overlap between the guests list at any of the weddings/parties.
I don't think there are many colors that I don't use/wear but there is a dearth of yellow and peach in my home or wardrobe.
I do not like gray, purple or orange in anything other than small amount, such as pumpkins at Halloween. Although I have never had an house with a gray exterior, I would consider it if I had the right house.
I wear mostly black, gray, and tan, with small accents of other colors, in shoes, jewelry, handbags and scarves.
In decor, I love all colors, but they need to be used carefully. As a designer, it's great fun to use a color palette that you've never used before, because a client loves it. I'm mostly drawn to blues, greens and reds in my own home. One of my clients loves yellow, orange and green, and that was a wonderful experience. Another liked seafoam green and pink, still another deep navy, burgundy and ochre. Still another was drawn to reds and greens. And no, her house doesn't look like Christmas!
Every color has a huge variety of hues, chroma and value. So even if you don't like red, you might like pink or burgundy, even if you don't care for bright red. Orange can span the spectrum of terracotta, coral or peach. Same with purple--lavender, mauve or aubergine might work for you. Yellow doesn't only mean bright schoolbus yellow, you might like lemon yellow or gold or a very light ivory. Greens can morph from citrus to forest to chartreuse to pine to mint to sage to kelly to teal to jade to...you get the picture! And of course everyone's favorite--blue! Cerulean, navy, royal, periwinkle, turquoise, slate, and many others.
The world is a colorful place, and we are blessed with such a riot of colors from which to choose when we dress, garden or decorate our homes!
I also like the dots.
I love the idea of diamond dots or white gold dots. Both feel elegant to me.
OMG the lady at the jewelers was so confused. Even though I came with a printout laying everything out, photos, and both the old ring and the new.
The gating issue will be what can fit!
I finally tackled the small walk-in closet on my side of the garage. Donated two 48Lx30Wx32H dog crates to the local cat rescue, and a pet ramp to another animal rescue. Took three boxes of paperwork to UPS for shredding. Unpacked seven boxes of wedding china. Rearranged what was left in the closet, so now you can actually walk inside. The china is now organized in the seating side of the island so easily accessible.
Even better news, DH agreed to go through at least one large storage closet upstairs!
I do not but I love how the mood of your room shifts between the white and olive slips. Very nicely done!
Roarah! Wow! You are so talented. I do not switch anything but now I want to after seeing your beautiful slip covers and I think it is fabulous to have the vibe/feeling to change with the seasons. It is something to look forward to and I know I get bored with my space and think it is a great idea to mix things up when it feels right. I could never make a slipcover but I am going to think about things I can swap out to create a change for how I want my space to feel and keeping things fresh and interesting to me by doing just that. Thank you for sharing as it is very inspiring.

I have never swapped out fabrics, pillow covers or bedding seasonally.
Really does sound like a lovely trip. And my guess is that it was absolutely the right trip at the right time!
But I will admit I never loved the “roughing it” kind of travel….🙄
The big cruises… that are out at sea for weeks never appealed to me…..having spent so many years living near the ocean…that was enough ocean views for me ….
