Hi guys, this rosemary plant is more than a year plus n I feel like the growth rate is too slow! Any ideas on tips to make it grow faster?

Was it grown from a seed? Or is that over a year since you've had it?

The soil does not look good. Is it planted in good potting soil?

Are you watering it fully when the soil feels dry (every 1-2 weeks or so)? How many hours of sunlight does it get a day? Have you been pruning it at all?

Rosemary is easy to grow. But it needs better soil. Can you plant in bed in yard? It will do great. Very hardy too. I put a plant in my courtyard 18 months ago, clip from it often and it is about 2’ high and 18” across. If you have to put in pot, repot and remove a lot of that dirt and add some good potting soil. Water well after repotting and keep damp for several weeks til it settles in.

Never plant in yard dirt if you want good results. Pruning and using the rosemary will help it grow more too.

My biggest problem with Rosemary is keeping it from taking over!! I seem to have luck. Frankly, I just stick 4” pot of it in ground, usually somewhat descent flower bed soil and it goes nuts. I do keep it trimmed for use and from getting too woody. No special care at all.

Growing any plant in a container is very different from growing the same plant in the.ground. In the ground, all that rosemary asks is good drainage and plenty of sun. If growing it in a container, one should use container potting soil rather than garden soil (aka, "dirt"). Garden soil is too heavy, too dense and will not provide fast drainage. You will also need to water occasionally (I have never watered my inground planted rosemary!) and provide some fertilizer. But not much :-)

I have very dense soil that does not drain well at all, and so there are a lot of things that do not do well, but rosemary grows like crazy in my soil. We are constantly having to cut it back. It is in full sun. I've seen rosemary here growing in parking lots through cracks in the pavement.
