We immediately felt comfortable with Ben and Ed. We interviewed a few architects, but found ourselves returning to our conversations with Ben and Ed. Our house was built in 1939 and we knew we wanted an architect that would honor the character of the house, but also modernize it to meet our growing family’s needs. Ben was the lead architect on our project and went above and beyond to create our vision of our remodel/addition. Ben walked us through every step of the way and created countless renderings, 3D models, and advice for every aspect of our home. Ben never missed our weekly meeting with our builder and researched products for us to make quick decisions. We can’t recommend AHD enough and would jump at the chance to do another project with them.

Our firm has provided structural engineering professional services in collaboration with Arbib Hughey Design for a number of architectural projects, including both new construction and substantial remodeling/additions to existing buildings. Ben and Ed approach their work with a mix of inspired creativity, client sensitivity, sage practicality, and cost awareness that make them exceptional architects, and in my experience, always a pleasure to work with.

We talked with a few architects before we started our project, but Ed and Ben stood out to us. Mainly because, when first visiting with them, they took notes and asked a lot of questions. They really tried to understand what we wanted and that was important to us. We considered not using architects, afraid the cost might be too much. In hindsight, we are so glad we hired AHD, because what we originally had in mind didn't come close to the final product. And we would have spent a lot of money on something that wasn't nearly as awesome as what these architects brought to the table. It was totally worth it. Ed and Ben made suggestions and pushed the design through the process with new ideas and solutions for our space, that we would have never thought of. It's because of this pursuit to a solution with functionality and design that we ended up where were at, and we couldn't be happier. They listened to us all along the way and had the expertise to execute every detail that was required. We highly recommend AHD.

Ben and Ed were a joy to work with. From their beautiful and creative designs to the functionality details, they curated an oasis of a living space from extremely dysfunctional and under utilized past remodel work. Both were quick to listen and share thoughtful feedback about our desires and budget. We are in awe of the outcome of our project and would love to work with them again in the future!

We hired Ed Hughey and Ben Arbib to design and monitor construction of a carport. We were downsizing to a smaller home which lacked a garage. They worked with us closely, suggesting a reorientation of our original suggestion that helped greatly in accessibility. The design incorporates a storage shed for yard tools, a potting shed, and a small workshop. They monitored construction throughout, catching a few needed fixes. They guided us through the arcane permitting process of our fair city, and obtained permits much more quickly than we expected. We are very pleased with the result, and recommend them most highly.

Using Arbib Hughey Design for our studio build-out was easily one of the best decisions we've ever made. Their attention to detail was incredible, they brought so many ideas and discussion points that we never would have thought of on our own. They made the entire process so much fun, we truly felt that they were invested in our utmost satisfaction with the end result. The few times we hit a snag in the project, they went above and beyond to supply solutions, even for things way outside the aesthetic design realm. I worked alongside Ed and Ben on a custom build in West Austin in 2016. As a custom builder, I very much appreciated Ben and Ed's professionalism, expertise, and attention to detail throughout the construction process. They exceeded our expectations on the construction side, and the clients were thrilled with the design as well. AHD gets my highest praise for architecture services in Austin.

We hired Arbib Hughey Design for an entryway/living room remodel and new outdoor patio/pavilion project. Original house was built in 1978 on a very difficult grade and had an existing pool that was asymmetrical to the house and to anything else for that matter. Ben was our primary contact on the project and created 4 prelim concepts for us to review in order to create a starting path to fully scope the project. Design criteria required very large windows to capture our view and a robust FP as a focal point for the space. Criteria for the patio was to be a fully covered entertainment area with lots of storage and a modern industrial feel. AHD more than delivered what we were looking for and we are very pleased to write this review on their behalf. Thank you Ed and Ben!

We hired Ed and Ben to draw the architectural and structural plans for the remodel of our family home. I found them both to be true professionals who were able to stick to time lines, quickly grasp the design and feel that we were after and provided great knowledge and advice as it was required. During the remodel i worked closely with Ed as we had weekly site meetings for the 10 months the project took to build. His attention to detail and knowledge of builders and what to look for was exemplary - many times he picked up seemingly small errors or deviations from what were on his plans and made the builders change it to the correct way. I am very grateful he did - as only now that i am living in our home and am enjoying the full flow and functionality of the design do i truly appreciate how big those small things could have been if left unchecked. He also was a strong voice for us in dealing with other professionals in the remodel, so he always had our back in ensuring things were done how we wanted them rather than "the easy way". They both also have a deep knowledge of city ordinances and requirements. This saved us a lot of time and hassle. Ed and Ben also put a great deal of emphasis on sight lines and lighting - before going through something like this i didn't appreciate how important this was. Now we have a wonderfully well lit house with an abundance of windows and natural light while still maintaining our privacy form our neighbours, they are unable to directly look into our house from any of their windows. The layout of the lights internally is perfect and give us plenty of options to showcase different areas of the house. Lastly Ed was able to provide a significant amount of storage throughout the house with clever well thought out ideas - this may seem small but it is an example of his ingenuity in providing something that was practically needed in an aesthetically pleasing way. The result is a house that is modern, clean and spacious. For a young family storage is key and we have plenty without feeling like we live in a storage container! Would we recommend Ed and Ben to our closest friends and people who are important to us? The answer is overwhelmingly YES! In fact we have already referred a number of our closest friends who are doing various size projects with Arbib Hughey Design.

Ed Hughey and Ben Arbib prepared the architectural plans for our family home remodel. They were professional, courteous, and listened carefully to the programming needs of our project. Their design concepts and final drawings were superb. Ed is a creative thinker and concerned with both practicality and budget. He helped us to visualize our space in new and more efficient ways. They are also great liaison between other professionals (ie engineers, city, etc). They saved us weeks by simply knowing the ins and outs of the city laws. They also were keen to experiment with new materials, and energy efficient design practices so we felt their grasp of our project was progressive and smarter for the long term. We have already recommended him to friends with building and remodeling projects and will continue to do so.
