A bird house is the focal point of these back yard gardens. The post height ensures plenty of room for tall perennials. The shed has attained a lovely patina including moss growth on the roof. Vintage watering cans on the side of the shed complete the garden theme.

This beautiful garden design was created by Coucou Design for the Hampton Court Flower Show 2015. We were lucky enough to have our Willow Tit and Flock Storm Cushions featured in the Willow Hide feature.
'The RHS Silver Gilt award winning City Twitchers garden was sponsored by Living Landscapes and exhibited at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show 2015.
Planted with bird friendly plants and shrubs this garden is a twist on a standard wildlife garden. Whist encouraging birds and wildlife it still maintains the contemporary feel of a modern city garden.
Positioned in a small 6.5 x 6.1 metre plot, this design illustrates how an urban garden, however small, can be designed to be bird friendly without compromising on style.
Providing food and a home for birds is becoming increasingly important in the urban environment, and this little garden offers both.
The design has incorporated a patio area to eat and entertain in, a raised bed to grow organic herbs, a woven willow bird hide and a small tree to hang bird feeders from. The back fence also features bird boxes and insect houses.
A hedge, water rill and pond also provide shelter, habitat and water for the wildlife, and add to the overall look of the design.
A Chamomile and sedum lawn complete the design, both of which will encourage birds and wildlife into the garden.
The willow hide and raised bed were hand made by sculptor Carole Beavis (www.carolebeavis.co.uk)'

After years of enjoying their backyard, the clients of this property enlisted our firm to improve the original landscape we had completed over ten years ago. Our goal was to update the patio and further develop their backyard by creating a garden with a variety of color and texture.
Over time the existing patio had settled, plantings grew, and an existing Oak thrived. During the initial home and landscape construction our clients were particularly concerned about the health of the mature Oak located just off the home. Special care was given when the patio was first built. Precautions were again taken in working around the Oak as the existing patio was removed and replaced. Surrounding trees and shrubs had grown and enclosed the backyard limiting access. This required almost all work and transport of material to be done by hand.
The old concrete paver patio was replaced with bluestone. Existing mortared limestone around the edges of the patio levels were cleaned and tuck-pointed. A new stoop was constructed with mortared limestone risers and bluestone treads. A built-in grill and fireplace further updated the backyard space. The fireplace was designed to follow the organic curve of the patio. Mortared limestone and bluestone material were repeated on all elements, tying them together.
Along with the updated patio, many additions were made in transforming the modest backyard into a lush garden. Masses of annuals, ornamental grasses, and perennials along with mixed shrubs created sweeps of color and texture in front of a new arborvitae hedge and other existing trees and shrubs.
After careful planning and execution the completed landscape gave our clients the updated landscape they desired. The completion of the project was a rewarding and fulfilling experience as we transformed a good past project into a fantastic new project.

This family had just moved back to the states from Paris and wanted their landscape to be an evocative blend of France and Nantucket. The front had to be low and open to the view of Hingham Harbor, yet full of color and a touch of beach grasses.
Rounding the corner toward the back yard is a dramatic hedge of Miscanthus gracilimus and PG Hydrangea, with a touch of Calamgrostis to caress your arm as you pass through the gate. The pool area in back is a cool blue slice of paradise, surrounded by borders bursting with bloom.

Ever changing garden in Vancouver, WA. We bought this property on an acre of horse pasture and started to landscape it immediately. Garden is now 17 years in the making and I'm still working on it and love changing and adding to the look.
I took the pictures and they're from early spring to late fall.

The garden that we created unifies the property by knitting together five different garden areas into an elegant landscape surrounding the house. Different garden rooms, each with their own character and “mood”, offer places to sit or wander through to enjoy the property. The result is that in a small space you have several different garden experiences all while understanding the context of the larger garden plan.
