Anderson Architect, established in 1985 by David Anderson, is a dynamic architectural practice based in Portadown. We love doing home makeovers, such as full refurbishments of houses and bungalows, bringing them back to life and making them functional and beautiful again. One of the most common requests we get is making the layout open plan and in line with a contemporary lifestyle, with more light and space. The main goal is to allow our clients to have a kitchen and living space where they can congregate with family and friends. We offer a full range of professional design services to the private home individual, including refurbishment, extensions, and new builds. We specialise in traditional or contemporary homes of any size. David Anderson is the Principal of the Practice, established in 1985. He was educated at Queens University, Belfast, gaining a 1st Class Honours Degree and after early training in Henley-on-Thames in England and Philadelphia, USA, worked for 5 years for G.P. & R.H. Bell, Architects in their Lurgan Office, before establishing Anderson Architect.

Terry Design

David doesn’t just design buildings that are beautiful from the outside - he understands the importance of a well-designed interior, and designs from the inside out. This attention to interior detail from the beginning of a job ensures that the space fulfils the client’s practical requirements for storage etc without compromising on the design aesthetic. For the Taylor house, he worked collectively with us and the client to integrate interior features into the building design itself; these included an integral TV unit, gas fireplace, walk-in wardrobe and fitted storage units. He also gave a lot of consideration to the free-standing furniture that would work in the space; the large hallway allowed us to include the oversized hall table as a statement piece. It’s been a pleasure working with David - he takes time to understand the client’s aspirations and really goes the extra mile to ensure that these are met. Highly recommended!

Anderson Architect worked on our listed building conversion project. From the very start they provided guidance and creative solutions to the many problems which an old building will present. During the project our biggest problems were with the Heritage Dept. and certain contractors - Anderson Architect were always on hand to help sort the problems and steer the project. The building conversion is now complete and is continuously fully tenanted.

David Anderson was our architect for our new build home on a green field site in a "green belt" in Co.Armagh. He completely understand what we wanted from our home which was a large, open plan ground floor with a central kitchen in a 2 storey, double height house. He worked within budget to make our unconventional dream a reality. David is extremely professional and worked with the planning department, our appointed QS and the builders, coming up with inventive solutions when issues arose. After 10 years we are still delighted with our home, as are all who visit it. We could not recommend David enough - he was a creative and steady guide through what could have been a very stressful process.

David designed the house I live in and we couldn't ask for a better more liveable space. He has deftly combined clever open plan living with architectural grandeur that doesn't intimidate. The house is so cleverly designed that we live in every part of it without any "wasted" space. It is a friendly and comfortable design which never fails to impress all who see it. He is a pleasure to work with and invites your ideas in a very un-assuming fashion while gently nudging you towards even better solutions! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

We engaged David for a refurbishment/extension project to our large Victorian home. David was able to turn the clients ideas into workable and practical design adding much along the way. His advocacy of a Contemporary Extension was proven with a resulting harmonious and much loved result. The new complementing the old house. David went the extra mile during design and construction to make sure it all came together. Working with an old house required accommodations with on site discoveries and a great result was achieved.
