Focus Architecture have been a tremendous help to me in the planning and design of my home renovation project. They came in when my project had hit a standstill, and provided much needed vision and design expertise. Throughout the DA process, they have been engaged and responsive, providing excellent guidance and recommendations on the best way to achieve our project goals. Additionally, Focus have great industry networks, enabling ease of flow through town planning and engineering. Our now approved designs have achieved exactly what we wanted. We are very grateful to Evan and his skilled team of professionals. Highly recommend.

The Focus Architecture team (Focus), lead by Evan, was great throughout the duration of the design stages. The three step (staged) approach was excellent, and proved to be an efficient mechanism for achieving a desirable outcome. Focus' recommendations for any supporting contractors and professionals was also much appreciated; we took most recommendations and had successful outcomes. As the build has progressed, Evan (and the team) have been very supportive (and quick) with minor adjustment and clarifications, as required. I can’t rate Evan and the team from Focus highly enough. They came recommended by some friends in the industry and they certainly did not disappoint. Focus team engaged to design a house for a small lot. We wanted a house that had elements of a Californian mid century modern. The final design is unique, contemporary and clever. Well worth the fees paid.

Geoff coordinated the subdivision of a block we own in Brisbane. Now that the process is completed I realise that I could not have done it without him! There are so many steps in the process that I had no idea about, and he took care of it all for me. His fee was a very small component of the subdivision cost, and was more than made up by the money he saved us through his knowledge of how to organise things to work best for us. Geoff is great to work with, professional and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him to anyone planning to subdivide a block.

Evan and his team were excellent! Great design, as we were undertaking major refurbishments and extensions of a dilapidated family home. Now it is a dream home! The transformation has been dramatic. Recently a relative of mine came to visit. He knew he was at the right place, but did not recognise the home, as it had been transformed. For hours, he kept looking around and commenting about how much the place had changed - to such an extent he thought he was at the wrong address! Evan suggested that to speed things up to engage one builder on a fixed rate, rather than put out to tender. He said that this should speed things up. He was right! Thank you Evan!

He took on board our brief, and our feedback of initial concepts he had prepared, to provide us with a design we can’t wait to live in. Follow up requests to make alterations to details for trades were always handled expeditiously.

Okay for patio, bathroom kind of job. No good for bigger projects such as complex renovations, homes etc. Definitely not for multi-unit developments. Made many mistakes in plans which cost me a lot during construction

Focus Architecture designed two custom dwellings for our development under challenging conditions. The lots were small and irregular in shape. The success of the development was highly dependent on a creative, ‘outside of the square’ design solution. We were recommended to Evan from Focus Architecture to custom design our new family home. We have a 607sqm corner block and wanted to maximise the corner to incorporate 4+ car accommodation as well as take advantage of the northerly aspect for entertaining and pool which we wanted in the front yard. Evan took our ideas brief and promptly prepared sketches which we were really happy with and we took these to the next stage of a 3D CAD model in ArchiCAD which we could open in the bimX app allowing us to really get a feel for the design and layout. Evan's communication throughout the process has been fantastic and we would definitely recommend if you are looking for an experienced and dedicated professional.

We engaged Focus Architecture as an architect on a small residential renovation project. Evan Pickering took the time to understand what we wanted to achieve and brought effective design solutions to contribute to a successful renovation project. We engaged Focus Architecture to assist with a design for a new freestanding garage and storage room. Evan had provided some examples of previous work, where his specialisation of maximizing the use of space in residential spaces was apparent. After an initial meeting, Evan returned a concept that basically met all of our specified requirements for the project. It complimented the character of the existing home, and helped us understand the best layout for our block and aspect. We did change the scope a number of times before arriving on a final design, which Evan ably assisted with. We are very pleased with the end result, and are very sure we would not have arrived at this concept for the property without Evan's guidance and experience.

In mid-2015, Evan Pickering responded to a posting Jadzia and I made on a website to engage professionals and tradespersons for home alterations. He promptly arranged to visit our home and, during conversation, he “ticked all the boxes” for professionalism, competence and quality assurance so well – right down to a folder with testimonials from previous clients – that we felt we might well be in the surreal world of an accomplished “con man.” But it was his roving eye that caught our attention. It never stopped analysing the living environment we had created: our tastes in furniture and decoration and how we presented them. He was collecting data and jumped at the chance to inspect our home. Here was a psychoanalyst with an engine-divided architectural scale in his hand. Psychology and sociology seemed to figure as prominently in his psyche and work ethic as did strength of materials and mathematical elements of design. We would rate this aspect of Evan in his professional role as his greatest strength. It would prove significant in what followed. Jadzia’s brief to him was simple: Improve the “street appeal” of our home! We signed a contract on the spot. Within a week, he had emailed a “concept plan.” The plan “blew us away!” It had definite WOW factor. From a “built environment” aspect, it was so deceptively simple one could be forgiven for thinking: why didn’t I think of that? But it had another dimension, one that could only be felt, not seen. Evan had injected a liveability component into his creation – one that would make us, and any future owner, “feel good” for as long as we dwelled there. Evan had melded social science with physical science! It was refreshing to see a thread of Bauhaus philosophy incorporated into a small, reasonably inexpensive, house alteration! Congratulations Evan! A builder is about to commence work to translate Evan’s concept into reality.
