Workshop Detroit

Workshop™ started out as a simple idea: To build furniture in the City of Detroit from lumber reclaimed from Detroit's vacant and abandoned building stock. Opening as a pop-up store on December 1, 2013, utilizing a long-vacant storefront along Second Avenue in the Fisher Building, Workshop set up a small mezzanine work area and first-floor showroom and began designing, building and selling modern furniture. Every Workshop furniture piece is handmade in the city using old growth structural pine salvaged from Detroit homes. In order to preserve and celebrate its place in Detroit’s history, each piece of Workshop furniture is stamped with the street address of the original abandoned home the materials were reclaimed from, preserving and celebrating a rich legacy. Workshop works closely with Detroit deconstruction crews to rescue valuable old growth structural pine destined for the landfill. Essentially, we are giving this old-growth lumber a third life.
