Dick designed the kitchen renovation of our 1891 home on the coast of Maine. We found him to be thoughtful, creative, thorough and fun/easy to work with. Dick took a kitchen made only for cooks, and turned it into the heart of the house. We have recommended Dick previously, and would hire him again.

We hired Dick Brown to do an extensive renovation and addition of our 80 year old house. We had lived in it for many years, and had a list of problems that we wanted fixed. He was able to solve all of our issues. We needed a renovation that fit into the existing style of the house, and we weren't interested in just tearing the house apart and replacing old with new. We also wanted the house to better fit into the backyard. He listened carefully to us and understood what we wanted, but also came up with a lot of excellent ideas of his own. He recommended the contractor that we ended up hiring, and they worked very well together. The project ended up adding 1 1/2 bathrooms and a master bedroom, redoing the existing bathroom and kitchen, and touching just about every existing room in the house. We are very happy, and would recommend Dick to anyone interested in starting a project.

Dick Brown is thoughtful, patient and creative. He listens well, has productive suggestions, and does a great job coordinating with contractors. We have worked with him on three projects over the years, from small alterations, to major kitchen renovations, to an entire house gut-and-redesign. We love our house now, and our only regret is that we don't need Dick to re-do it! So we recommend him to all our friends.

Dick Brown designed a two-story addition for our home. He met with us over a period of several months to help us define what we wanted to include in the addition. His process was very thorough and helpful to having the outcome match what we wanted. Dick came up with a tasteful design that was in keeping with the rest of the house. He was a good listener and helped us stay focused on the many decisions involved. As the project progressed, Dick was also a good advocate for our needs and wishes, and helped us make decisions that were in line with our budget and scope.

Dick did a masterful job on our very large addition. We have an 1890's farmhouse style home, and needed a 3 story addition, to include a music studio, family room, master bedroom, laundry room and full bath. The renovation also included a new kitchen and updated master bath, for which his input way key. Naturally, the structural considerations of adding so much to a very old, existing structure were formidable, especially for the music room. Equally important to us, though, was making sure the addition maintained the style and character of the existing house, and did not conflict with the other homes on our street. Dick succeeded brilliantly in both these areas. In fact we received many, many compliments from passing neighbors, who specifically told us how well the addition matched the old structure. He also remained very involved during the construction phase, really knows how to work well with contractors, and helped us (and them) through many difficult design decisions. He's built many structures himself, and is not afraid to get his hands dirty. This is the second time Dick has designed renovations for our home. The first time went just as smoothly, and included a new fireplace with built-in cabinets, of which there is a photo on this web site. We love these cabinets, and all the work Dick has done for us. He's quite affordable, too.

I asked my contractor for a few recommendations for an architect for our project and we lucked out by selecting Dick (despite the vetting process, you never know until you get into the process with someone). We are razing a small year-round porch and replacing it with a master suite, as well as "fixing" issue with adjourning living room. Dick was patient with us and listened to our wants. He was creative and practical with various ideas to solve the problems; we selected one great idea and worked with Dick to modify it a bit. Throughout this process Dick was great at explaining the process (when to engage contractor, surveyor) as well as keeping us abreast of the phases of his work. Dick was / is responsive and timely with his work. The final plans blew us away with details, completeness and professionalism.
