This was a medium/large scale project (city sized lot), designed to bring maximal utility, beauty, enjoyment and serenity to my outdoor space. Not only am I THRILLED with the outcome – the joy experienced at its development is embedded in the structure itself. Truly. It hums…It really does. Ritter & Smith (Robert, Roald - Alvaro too) are Consummate Craftsmen. Working together with them was this designer’s dream. I felt immediately confident and comfortable in their hands. With their experience and energy, professionalism and personal approach. They are committed to delivering quality, excellence – to solid, exquisite construction - that makes sense. Each member of the team has an eye for design/detail that is keen and critical. Not seen with standard trades people. They share an artisanal reverence for the materials they work with, have solid technical expertise, and they afforded me a refreshing brand of patience and practical consideration across the arc of the process. It was good. There was integrity. Care. Humor. We shared ideas. I changed my mind. We kept it moving and we had fun! The result was an end product that feels alive, inspired and elegant, in harmony with the environment it occupies, and as much a pleasure to look at as it is to BE in and interact with. Beautiful. Thoughtful. Strong. Because of my experience on this past project, I will work with Ritter & Smith on ALL future projects for my home – outside and in. What’s next includes an inviting, protective, front entrance structure that echoes the structure and attitude of the back - and then my kitchen and wet room. I brought in Roald Smith Construction after another contracting company was unable to begin and I was left to figure out how to manage some of the trades I had already lined up. Communication with me and the other trades was spectacular. A contractor/builder/worker/manager extraordinaire depending on the needs of our projects who became a friend! We initially hired Roald Smith Contruction Inc based on a good friend's recommendation to fix a bathroom challenge left by another trades person and ended up hiring Roald again to turn a small front hall closet into a downstairs bathroom with a sink, as well as creating an archway between our living room/dining area into our back hallway leading to the back of our kitchen all the while addressing all the challenges one finds in a 76 year old home. Roald Smith is a people person who is creative, has great customer service skills and thinks outside the box when confronted with challenges which can arise on any project. He is a joy to work with & we look forward to consulting with him and his team on future projects.

We were very pleased with the work that Roald Smith Construction did on our renovation. We found the focus on quality workmanship very evident and we very much enjoyed that. The sub-contractors were well supervised. They met their originally time estimates. We were pleased enough to hire them again this fall for a smaller project - same result - excellent workmanship.

Roald Smith Construction did a fairly major renovation for us. We purchased a 45 year old house. We did a major renovation gutting the interior and removing most walls and completely redesigning it. We designed our place and Roald was able to see the vision and achieve what we were looking for. His work included structural beam work, redoing masonry outside as we added a lot of glass on the back exterior wall which also included structural work. The finishing work was excellent and Roald's eye for quality was excellent. He managed sub trades well and dealt with any issues that arose to our satisfaction. We are very happy with the entire project and love our new place.
