My art practice is a simple reflection of my personality, who I am. As any artist I’m constantly inspired. I always think about art and think about the different ways I can deliver it to the public. I never want to be tied to one style of creativity. I create unique pieces, so I don’t want to be known or recognised for a recurrent style. I’d rather be known for my exploration of different disciplines. Seeking new challenges to further develop my art practice, my learning and my artistic development. In my paintings I reference urban life and the modern industrial world, while acknowledging nature’s beauty and surprise. I am encouraged by experimentation and by pushing boundaries. I relish in mistakes and tire of repetition. I love the power and statement in simple compositions juxtaposed with areas of layering and detail. It’s when all these elements are combined, I feel my paintings are successful and only then do I feel like an artist.

Spencer’s desire is to create an impact on the eye and trigger an emotional response through colour, movement and texture. “I am bound to no one style and, just like the first random scratch of charcoal on a canvas, I’m never prepared and I enjoy letting instinct take over,” he says. "There's nothing I'm bound to other than experimenting, so I can keep pushing and trying new things." An appreciation for design in all its forms means Spencer delves into varying materials and styles. Hailing from Fremantle, the humble family man is a true reflection of his craft. Dynamic, energetic and lively, he draws from the past while being in the now, overlaying an urban, industrial sensibility and an admiration for nature’s beauty. “I paint something different every day because I don’t want to get ‘trapped’ into some recognised style or repeated image,” he says. “I need to push and dissect my art until one day I draw but one line and think it’s beautiful.”

David Spencer is the sort of person who puts his whole heart into each painting from the very first moment the paint hits the canvas to the personalised delivery of the finished masterpiece. His heroic use of primary colours and the vibrancy of his work shows the passion and enthusiasm he puts into each painting. I absolutely love his abstract style and his use of bright colours...It is the perfect example of Modern Abstract Art. I look forward to choosing our next piece of David Spencer's art!

I was invited to Dave Spencer's private art studio to view him work and see completed and in progress works. He was so relaxed and welcoming, I had a fantastic afternoon. I fell in love with a particular piece and this made him very happy, he knew my taste and had positioned that piece in particular, right where the best light was. He had it framed and delivered in secret and personally came to help hang it!

I commissioned David several years ago for a large painting in my home. He was very receptive to my brief on what I was hoping the painting would achieve and when I first viewed it was blown away by it's colour, presence, layers of meaning and detail. In fact to this day it still occupies the most prominent position in my home and brings me great joy. David's work is bold, exciting, playful and shows a level of detail and complexity that provides intrigue and interest time after time. I couldn't recommend him more highly.

I live overseas and wanted to buy some of David's art for my sister for Christmas (that she absolutely loved btw). David also knows my sister and has been to her house so was extremely helpful in not only assisting me in what piece would suit best, but for delivering the art to my sister before Xmas.
