Studio H Landscape Architecture

Guard you wallets!!! TLDR: Their needlessly complicated design fee structure and oversight of labor costs allows them to take advantage of inexperienced home owners by charging a lot up front then raising prices once you are committed and bleeding money from you at every turn. I never write yelp reviews, but I had such a bad experience with Studio H that I feel compelled to save others from making the same mistake I did. A little context: I approached Studio H as a first time home owner with a relatively large project. In my eagerness to design my new yard, I didn't make them bid for the job (like I should have; I know better now), but they seemed trust worthy and very forward thinking. Their website was exquisite and though pricey, the results seemed worth it. The first issue is that they asked for a lot of money upfront just to get started on the project before delivering a budget or a design. I now know that this is a red flag and that many landscape design firms will come and bid for the job before asking for money. The second issue is that the designer was NOT the person who came to my house to talk to me about what I wanted. That client rep (Allison), passed her notes to the designer (Ben), who lost a lot in translation. The third issue is that it took them over 2 months to deliver the first design, which, despite numerous phone calls, and sample photos, looked nothing like what I had asked for. Furthermore, when I asked for some revisions to the design so that it more closely matched what I had initially asked for I was, immediately, old that in order to make any changes, I needed to pay them more money. This was because the changes I requested somehow bumped me into a higher design fee tier, despite having given them a budget at the start of the project. They also used this opportunity to dissuade me from getting bids on the labor (at this point I was only paying for the design) because their team/subs were 99% accurate and other folks would just rip me off. After speaking to Warwick, I agreed to pay a bit more to get the design closer to what I wanted, but when it arrived it was still way off and when I asked for more revisions, I was again told that I need to pay more. For me that was it, lesson learned. Like others who have commented here, I was charged for 3D renderings I never received (even when specifically asked), ignored for long periods of time, and consistently upsold when I asked for "revisions" to the point that I think they may have purposely submitted subpar designs so they could charge more. The fact is there are just too many other quality companies out there to take a chance on Studio H.

This is our first experience of yard design and work. We had no ideas about how to start and what to expect on processes and decisions. Studio H team is resourceful, structured and approachable. They have great people and effective approaches. They are resourceful, listening, and passionate. Communication is their number 1 focus — face-to-face, group meetings, phone calls, Slack, emails, They helped organize our thoughts using concepts, sketches, 3-D rendering, and example photos. They constantly asked about our ideas and opinions, linked the ideas to outcomes and recommendations. Estimated financial figures are visible in ranges throughout the process, sensitive on budget target. They help attend details for all the bridging from design to make them real. Checking HOA rules, link to contractor candidates, comments on the bidding from the contractors. We ended up picked QS Landscaping as our contractor. It was in the list Studio H recommended. Great experience throughout the material picking and constructions. We are so happy when seeing the completed work: styles, details, aesthetics and practicality. We highly recommend the designer and the contractor.

We worked with Studio H and QS Landscape to design and build our landscape about a year ago. After a yearlong enjoyment and receiving compliments, we can say that their work is truly amazing and will stand the test of time. During the entire process, Warwick and his team went out of their way to help us realize the vision we had. Their plan was so detailed that we had zero problem with the design review committee and construction. Our experience with Studio H has been terrific. We’ve been working with them for over a year to landscape our new home. Without doubt, Studio H and the contractor they suggested for us, QS Landscaping have created exactly what we wanted. The ability of Studio H to create a 3D rendering of the finished landscaping was indispensable in helping us picture our completed project. I have worked with Studio h on a number of projects. I can say they have the most detailed plans of anyone that I have worked with. Their cut sheets and perspective drawings leave little doubt as to what should be done on a project. They are always available to communicate and collaborate on a project. As one of only 18 people in the world to have attained Society of Water Shape Master status I can say they are truly the best around. Their details on water shapes and landscape are some of the best that I have seen and they have a unique perspective on every project. I can't recommend them enough.

I found Studio H through browsing Houzz landscape photos and hired them for a complete backyard redo. I had some basic wants, but not a clear vision of what I wanted my yard to look like. Not only do they have a great design eye; they really listened to my thoughts and feedback to help fill in the details for my yard. Their documents are extremely detailed, which comes in handy when working with your contractor - leaves little gray area, resulting in less headaches during the installation phase. They transformed my small and formerly unusable space into modern, functional areas with a clean look for the whole family to enjoy. My point person was Ben (and Jessie for plants) and he was awesome to work with. Excellent communicator and very responsive. If you are balking at the cost of hiring a landscape architecture firm, I assure you Studio H is worth every penny. I will use them again when I have enough money to redo my front yard!

We used Warwick and his team at Studio H for a complete backyard renovation, which included building a pool. We have a small backyard and we were concerned that putting our “wish list” into the space would make it too crowded. Studio H was able to see our vision and put it into reality while still keeping in mind our style, desires and budget concerns. Ben was very patient with us each time we had questions or needed changes. He was always available to offer various suggestions to our many thoughts and we never felt rushed during our talks. Warwick is a fantastic designer and our new back yard came out great! We wanted a modern design where we could both relax and entertain. We were able to incorporate a fire pit, dining area, bar, jacuzzi, bocce court and some putting greens all in a small Irvine back yard. The limestone patio areas with the azure blue jacuzzi and fountain gave the yard the modern feel we desired. He was also able to coordinate the project very close to budget which required some creative thinking and elements. Only thing to watch is the company tends to get very busy so you'll want to monitor progress with your PM periodically. Warwick never hesitated to jump in though to help move things along. Warwick was super helpful in coming out and providing ideas and an estimate on how to make the most of our new home's small outdoor space. His vision is phenomenal -- he could make the smallest space feel expansive. His style is fairly modern and, ultimately, we felt that the home needed something more traditional. But I would not hesitate to use him in the future or recommend him to others.

Usually I would be skeptical if all the reviewers gave a perfect score. Invariably, someone wishes they got better service. Fortunately, I am not that someone. What I can say about Warwick and his team (I also worked closely with Ben and Jessie) is that they are a fun and imaginative group to work with. They were easy to talk to and while being completely open to my personal vision of the landscape project, they back-filled all the practical elements that were essential to transforming ideas into reality. Their creativity and sense of style and flare helped expand beyond what I thought was possible and tested the limits of what the HOA would allow. That's not a bad thing, unless you are really pressed for time as I found it better to start with more and contract the project later as needed, than the other way around. Oh, and btw, go with the landscape contractor they recommend. He was excellent as well.

These guys did a great job. We hired Studio H to design and prepare the drawings the for our outdoor space based on pictures of previous contemporary projects on Houzz. The crew is professional, flexible and overall a great value. I can't recommend Studio H enough.

Have Studio H design the landscape. The design details everything and very well document. They are very experience and patient to work with even we have couple of revisions. Our new home is one of the last in the community that has yet to complete the landscape project, so we do not want it to be a “me too” design. Warwick and his team worked with us closely to understand our tastes and styles, and came up with a creative, tasteful, yet functional design, deploying the latest concepts and materials while meeting our budget constraint. Warwick and his team is very responsive and professional. Moving from Chicago, we had so much in mind to fit into this small yard: water features, veg garden, lounge area, fire pit, grill, work space, etc. Warwick somehow come up with the plan fit them all in, beautifully! We are very picky with our design and sourcing of materials; and our HOA is very particular with their requirements. Warwick has been extremely helpful in recommending vendors, working with HOA to get design approval, we won't be able to enjoy our dream garden now without him. Prior to hiring his team, we researched/interviewed a handful of design studios and contractors. They either didn't have the caliber and quality we desired or some might feel our project was too small to take. Our initial budget was 40K, we ended up with around 100K by choice. Warwick treated us from the very beginning as if we were the biggest client of his, always cared, always listened, always responsive. We highly recommend him whatever the budget you have in mind :)

Warwick Hunt provided design services and supervised installation of a completey new front and rear yard re-landscaping of my single family home. The design requirements required draught resistant plants and enhancement of sight lines/views from both the interior of the house and from the exterior. He worked very effectively with the project architect and various sub-contractors. All on a limited budget.

I found Studio H on Houzz.com and hired them because I liked what they had done on some other contemporary home projects. We didn't have a large yard to work with but we wanted to seperate it into as many 'spaces' as possbile. Warwick did an excellent job of taking our ideas and turning them into something very livable. Specifically, he solved a couple of our design problems concerning the placement of our backyard grill and our desire for some garden space. The plans and renderings he provided gave us an excellent idea of what the finished project would look like. We have received many compliments on the layered effect he created on our front planters and his uses of grasses and succulents. Studio H provided all drawings and plans in a timely manner and for a reasonable, fixed price that was agreed upon before work began. I highly recommend them!

The project was to design a pool and hardscaping and garden surrounding the pool. Warwick listened carefully to my ideas for the project and then provided a design and a few revisions that the builders could work with. I found him very creative, knowledgeable and approachable. He told me when to spend the extra money and when not to bother. He really made the most of my small backyard, all within a very manageable budget.
