Wendy Durand

For many years, I dreamed about working in clay… There is something calming and centering about clay and I knew from my first touch that this would become my life's work. I create my sculptural and functional ceramic art in series such as Long Boat sets, Women Vases, Sculptural Bowls, and Floating Platters using a slab construction method. The hallmarks of my work are color, unusual exaggerated shapes, clean lines and texture. In each piece I create, I strive to find elegance and refinement. The creation of ceramic art, whether a "pot" or a sculpture, involves both technical skill and creativity. But behind it all, for me, there is nothing quite like the joy of immersing myself in clay and attempting to make something beautiful from it. I want people to want to touch my work and for my work to touch them.
