Need help with family room

We have a split level home and are turning one of the rooms downstairs into a family room that will function as a play room/craft room/exercise are. I'm looking for some design help with this- how do I set up the area to make it the most functional? Here are some pictures- no judging! It's been a storage area and there's a few boxes that we need to drop off at goodwill!!

Great space with so many possibilities! First thoughts are to have the play and craft area closest to the window to allow as much natural light for that space. Question - What kind of equipment do you plan on having for the workout/exercise/gym area? This would definitely impact ideas on layout. Let me know and I could start putting together ideas for you!

Lose the single center room light and install retrofit LED can lights around the perimeter. It will provide tons more light and they are super efficient. Looks like the ceiling needs to be refloated as well.

I think the lamp above the table is too big and hides part of the picture behind, which is a very nice one. I would prefer a more technical lamp, maybe a rail with some spotlights, possibly suspended. A carpet is a good idea, but I would definitly not put it under the table, because then even more objects would be cluttered in only one half of the room, the carpet should instead lie on the left half of the room in front of the table, so that it is not covered with furniture. It should pick up the style of the picture on the wall. My first idea would be a carpet I own myself, it fits quite nice to the picture: Ligne Roset - Menhir And I would prefer a white dining table, because the colour of the chairs would make a better contrast, the dark wood of table and floor is quite heavy.

Hi yoursra dodo, a lot of children love yellow. Yellow with a red pigment makes a room friendly and cosy. And when it is dark, rainy and grey outside, yellow cheers you up. if you select the colour, hold the sample next to the door, the floor and the blue "sky" above the bed. Look at it in dayligth (sunny and cloudy) and in the night with electric lighting.

The pillowcase gives you a good impression. For me light colours do not work as good as darker ones. The petrol (right corner) would be great. But what colour does the girls love? If it is pink you go for a darker one or purple. And it is always best to test the look first. So buy just a small sample of the colour and try. If a dark colour is too dark for you, just paint one wall and the others white.

Hey Alice, Yes I know, it's so hard to pick one as there are so many beautiful ones! Yes, I would definitely choose one that's shorter than the sideboard! You could go for something white and simple or something made out of the same wood as the table legs or something that matches the metallic thingy over the desk. I think I would choose a simply white one or a metallic one. Or you could also just put a picture ledge there and then put the artwork on it and maybe a nice candle or a small plant. Depending on the shelf and the size of the artwork, I would put the artwork on it :) Also you shouldn't hang it too high, it shouldn't lose look disconnected from the sideboard. I would say about as high as the grid over the desk but it also depends on the shelf. But I guess you will see it when you chose one! :) I added a few examples but of course those are my taste but I hope you'll find something you like! golden shelf - Urban Outfitters (maybe you can find something with only two boards) Round metallic shelf - Lionshome Picture ledge - IKEA
