CARBO Landscape ArchitectureRear garden terraces are framed by forest and lower rain gardens, filled with native birch, willow, fern and iris. Roof drains on the residence and french drains in the lawn terrace fill the space defined by low stone walls. Cypress logs were harvested from nearby river bottoms and milled to create the bridge that connects the terraces. Hawkeye Landscape DesignWe began this project with the idea of making a friendly entryway and social area under the Mulberry tree which provides much needed shade in this hot, mountainous area. The 'red fescue' meadow grass has a cooling effect and the agaves reduce the need for excess water and maintenance.
The backyard has a covered dining area with a corner lounge and fireplace. The large barbecue offers a cantilevered counter for entertaining. The waterfall into the pool is surrounded with bamboo and plantings that emulate the hillside beyond the property. The permeable paving and mix of Vitex and Olive trees provide shade for smaller seating areas to enjoy the variety of succulents throughout the garden

Legacy Landscape Design, LLCThis was a wooded back yard in Smyrna, GA . The main focal point was the long stream cascading down the hillside. The Mortared Flagstone Walkway and steps interacted with the stream and terminated at a patio and pond. It was all very natural and blended in with the existing landscape. Christine Krause Design StudioThe owners of this charming in town home engaged Christine Krause Design Studio to solve the issue of a steep grade off of the back of their home that was the only access to the back yard and existing vegetable garden. The clients also wished to add additional outdoor living space for entertaining friends and family as well as enjoying summer evenings outdoors. The clients were keen to have a clean, symmetrical feel to the new space.
The construction included softening the grade, building a native stone retaining wall, adding a gentle sloping side area for access, and functional yet aesthetic steps that lead you out into the lawn and gardens. The material for the new steps is reclaimed granite. We constructed a lower level, curved retaining seat wall with a built in “table.”
The client is an avid gardener and has lovely, well-tended gardens. The client and I worked together to create a planting palette that reflected the existing textures and colors of the existing plant material.
