BK Landscape DesignAward winning hillside renovation with concrete walls and informal 'bocce court'
Design constraints: Full sun and steep hillside
Planting design: This yard started as a blank hillside that had a steep slope. BKLD provided consultation and design work to develop the hillside with a series of terraced walls to create a bocce court. The bocce court was done in an informal fashion with artificial turf so the client could entertain with the space and have the 'look' of green. This turned out to be a great low maintenance and drought tolerant way to add useable space as well as a softer view from the upper deck. Existing Oaks were all kept and designed around carefully with composite decking. The Oaks make for some great shadow play and is quite the dynamic space as the sun angles move thru out the day.

A small front yard with interesting elevation changes created by terracing. Terracing and elevation changes make small yards appear to have more depth. The color of the weeping Cercis tree accents the shutters color. and the yellow green and orange plants accent the Cercis color. Using complementary colors makes both color look more vibrant. On top of the custom metal table base we installed limestone slabs. We decided wo add warmth to the space, by finding a reclaimed piece of wood and affixing it to a custom metal base.
SCJ Studio Landscape ArchitectureA Seattle couple needed to take advantage of our amazing summer weather and asked for a way to watch movies outside. We were up to the challenge, designing a custom concrete bench that by day serves as built-in seating and transforms at night into a perfect spot to catch a flick on the fly! Other touches include modern planting and steel planters to match the contemporary feel of the home.

It's our favorite way to add big statements to a project. Once the plants fill in over a few weeks, the planters become overflowing with color.
Bright Green GardenThis Camellia was a big blob of green at the end of the garden. We cut it back to show off its great legs and look how it flowered the following spring.
