Décor Aid
When a family living in Singapore decided to purchase a New York City pied-à-terre, they settled on the historic Langham Place, a 60-floor building along 5th Ave which features a mixture of permanent residencies and 5-star hotel suites. Immediately after purchasing the condo, they reached out to Decor Aid, and tasked us with designing a home that would reflect their jet-setting lifestyle and chic sensibility.

Connecting to the historic Tiffany Building at 404 5th Ave, the exterior of Langham Place is a combination of highly contemporary architecture and 1920’s art deco design. And with this highly unique architecture, came highly angular, outward leaning floor-to-ceiling windows, which would prove to be our biggest design challenge.
One of the apartment’s quirks was negotiating an uneven balance of natural light throughout the space. Parts of the apartment, such one of the kids’ bedrooms, feature floor-to-ceiling windows and an abundance of natural light, while other areas, such as one corner of the living room, receive little natural light.
By sourcing a combination of contemporary, low-profile furniture pieces and metallic accents, we were able to compensate for apartment’s pockets of darkness. A low-profile beige sectional from Room & Board was an obvious choice, which we complemented with a lucite console and a bronze Riverstone coffee table from Mitchell Gold+Bob Williams.
Circular tables were placed throughout the apartment in order to establish a design scheme that would be easy to walk through. A marble tulip table from Sit Down New York provides an opulent dining room space, without crowding the floor plan. The finishing touches include a sumptuous swivel chair from Safavieh, to create a sleek, welcoming vacation home for this international client.
Arch. FABIO FANTOLINO Studio
Designed by Fabio Fantolino, Lagrange House is located in the heart of the city of Turin. Two apartments in one inhabited by mother and son, perceived as a single space that may be divided allowing each to preserve a sense of individual personality and independence.
The internal design is inspired by the styles of the 1950’s and 1970’s, each a contamination of the other.
The hand-sanded Hungarian oak herringbone flooring sets the scene forthe entire project. Some items are found in both apartments: the handles, the round table in the dining area.
The mother resides in the larger apartment, which is elegant and sophisticated thanks to the richness of the materials used, the marble, the fabric and the highly polished steel features.
The flavour of the 1950s finds its greatest expression in the living area which, apart from its elegance offers different areas of expression. The conversation area is developed around a Minotti Freeman Tailor sofa, featuring a rigorous cotton titanium-coloured fabric and a double-stitched linearmotif, typical of the 1950's, contrasting with soft elements such as carpets, De La Cuona pale pink velvet-covered armchairs with Bowl by Mater tables at their sides. The study area has a walnut desk, softened by the light from an Aballs T by Parachilna suspension Lamp. The Calacatta gold marble table surrounded by dark velvet Verpan chairs with a black structure is in the centre of the dining area, illuminated by the warm light from a black Tango lamp from the Phanto collection.
The setting is completed by two parallel niches and a black burnished iron archway: a glass showcase for dishes and an opening allowing for a glimpse of the kitchen in black fenix with shelving in American walnut enriched with Calacatta gold marble interspersed by TopanVP6 coloured pendants by &Tradition.
The guest bathroom maximizes the richness of Arabescato marble used as a vertical lining which contrasts with the aquamarine door of the washbasin cabinet with circular walnut particulars.
The upstairs sleeping area is conceived as a haven, an intimate place between the delicacy of light grey wood panelling, a Phanto PawFloor lamp and a Verner Panton black flowerpot bedside lamp. To further define this atmosphere, the Gubi Beetle Chair seat with a black structure and velvet lining and the table lamp designed by the architect Fabio Fantolino.
The smaller apartment has a design closer to the '70s. The loung has a more contemporary and informal air, a Percival Lafer vintage leather armchair, a petrol-coloured Gianfranco Frattini for Tacchini sofa and light alcantara chrome-plated tubular chairs.
The kitchen can be closed-in on itself, serving as a background to the dining area. The guest bathroom has dark tones in red Levanto marble with details in black and chromed iron.
The sleeping area features a blue velvet headboard and a corner white panelling in the corner that houses a wall cabinet, bedside table and custom made lamp.
The bond between the two home owners and, consequently, between the two apartments is underlined by the seamlessly laid floor and airs details that represent a unique design that adapts and models the personality of the individual, revisiting different historical eras that are exalted by the use of contemporary design icons.

The property had been 'chopped and changed' over the years resulting in the loss of some of the original features. Many have been reintroduced as part of the project, including the cornices and ceiling roses, fireplaces and hearths and parquet flooring. The original window shutters, sash windows and architraves have been refurbished.

TimeLine Renovations Inc.
Going house hunting to find the dream home is difficult in every aspect, especially in NYC. The first apartment may have a feature that the other has but very rarely will one place have all. Most important is making sure the location and size works and everything else can be incorporated later. As the apartment our clients selected was "move in" condition its surely was not for what they work looking for in creating their dream home. We first started by creating a "wish list" of all of the essentials, which included; open kitchen, walk in closet, office space , larger master bathroom with stand up shower and soaking tub. With creating many different floor plan options, the only way we would achieve this was by sacrificing the 3rd bedroom. At this stage the 3rd bedroom was very easy for them to sacrifice as it gave them all of the wish list for now. In the future ,they could easily take the square footage from the new oversized living room and add that 3rd bedroom if it were necessary. Our first goal in the demolition stage was to remove all existing interior partition walls and start with a fresh new slate. By removing the existing kitchen walls the New Kitchen layout now combines it with the living room. The cabinetry is 2 tone color, flat slab doors for the modern look. State of the art appliances were installed; Integrated panels were installed on the fridge, wall oven, microwave, cook top. The sink is the ultimate chefs prep station sliding butcher block with bowls that slide over the sink. A garage cabinet was installed to conceal smaller appliances. The cantilever counter top adds the additional seating space for guests while keeping the bottom portion open for the view. The existing walk in closet was relocated to achieve the New Master Bathroom, Combining the spaces now gave us the option to add all the features. Floating vanity with double sinks, soaking tub, stand up shower. The glossy rectified tiles used are 12x36 and when installed make the grout line disappear and make it look like a solid wall. The chocolate floor tiles are randomly staggered then wrap up the tub platform and continue up one wall to create an accent. No tile edge was used but all tiles that meet on a 90 degree outside corner are mitered; tub platform, walls and shower niches. Heated floors were installed to keep the feet warm on the cold winter days. In the Master Bedroom we built a bed frame accent wall. Serves for multiple functions; eliminates night stands by using the niches for alarm clock / phone charger station, lights were added inside the niches for accent lights and raised wall paper was used to finish this beautiful feature. Each his and hers niche has an outlet, 4 way switch for the accent lights and 4 way switch for the recessed lights above when they are done reading in bed. Custom steps were built for easy up and down off the bed for the little puppies that could not possibly make the jump up. Other features throughout the apartment include; New bamboo floors throughout. Since the concrete ceiling slab cannot be chopped , soffits and drop ceilings were built throughout the apartment to accommodate recessed lights. Low voltage recessed lights were used with multiple zone dimmers for energy efficiency. Remote operated shades were installed The overall design was for the apartment was modern, simple lines and true elegance. The newly renovated apartment will be enjoyed by them, friends and family for many years to come...

Axis Mundi
Good design must reflect the personality of the client. So when siblings purchased studios in Downtown by Philippe Starck, one of the first buildings to herald the revitalization of Manhattan’s Financial District, the aim was to create environments that were truly bespoke. The brother’s tastes jibed synchronously with the insouciant idea of France’s most popular prankster converting a building that once housed the buttoned-up offices of JP Morgan Chase. His collection of Takashi Murakami works, the gallery-like centerpiece of the main area, announces his boldness and flair up front, as do furnishings by Droog, Moooi and, of course Starck, as well as hide rugs and upholstery, and a predominantly red palette. His sister was after something soothing and discreet. So Axis Mundi responded with a neutrals and used glass to carve out a bedroom surrounded by drapes that transform it into a golden cocoon. Hide (albeit less flamboyantly applied) evokes a familial commonality, and built-in furniture and cabinetry optimize space restrictions inherent in studio apartments.

Working station is an important but normally not such a vibrant part of the interior. In this 25sqm studio it was hidden within the mirrored wardrobe to keep interior clean and uncluttered. 180 degree hinges allow doors open completely giving plenty of space for comfortable and productive work.
