Jami AbbadessaThese clients are great friends of mine, so I really wanted to help them make their remodel special. They recently purchased an historic Craftsman style home in the Claremont Village that required a complete remodel. The kitchen was an area that I helped out the most. It is set in a part of the house that doesn’t get a lot of natural light, so I wanted to keep it light and airy. I didn’t want to do an all white kitchen, so we opted for two tone cabinets, which I absolutely love! We had them custom made and stained a neutral medium brown. There was an empty space under the stairs that I turned into a “secret” walk-in pantry, which is completely nondescript when the doors are closed. The counters are Praa Sands from Cambria, the Roman Shade was custom made from fabric found at the LA fabric district and the back splash is an arrangement of glass subway tiles.

This remodeling project has a bitter sweet story.
This home was built in 1975 and was the childhood home for our client. Many, many holidays, birthdays, graduations, and life milestones were celebrated here with her brothers and sisters. This home was the hub for all life events and milestones.
When her parents passed a few years ago, our client decided to purchase the home with plans of renovations and continuing the family traditions and celebrations she always loved.
That's where we come in.
Our job was to redesign the kitchen and bathroom into a functional space where family and friends could gather during the celebratory times and give it a rustic flare. Challenge accepted!
What was on their wish list?
•Remove the peninsula area and add an island. ✔️ Got it!
•Warm colors, materials to be used to give a rustic farmhouse feel. ✔️ Yes Ma'am!
•Open the wall to the family room. ✔️ Absolutely!
•Tone down the orange bathroom and turn it into a half bath. ✔️ Our pleasure!
As you can see from the before and after pictures, every wish was signed sealed and delivered.
A new chapter is happening in this home. Memories of Mom and Dad are still alive and well in every space of this home and now traditions will continue with loving thoughts of the past and excitement of the future.
Working for this family was truly an honor.

Sandra Curtis Design, LLCThis client asked me to provide them with ample storage in their ski vacation condo's kitchen. I wanted to take advantage of the end wall to maximize the countertop and give them more storage with a cabinet under the new range that is 92" wide. Even though the cabinet is well supported, the cabinet opening has no center divider which would hinder any individual seeking out pots and kettles from below. The other elements fell into logical places including a generous pantry to the right of the refrigerator.
In trying to maintain the sleek look of the backsplash, I worked diligently with the electrician to avoid outlets in the backsplash area as much as possible using Task Lighting's angled power strips. I love working with the outlet strips that tuck up under the cabinetry; they are brilliantly discreet.
One of the special elements in this kitchen is the log pedestal base under the cantilevered bar top that is a continuation of the cap on the half wall. This log is from my neighbor's tree which they were cutting down in perfect timing with this renovation. Other components from this same tree are incorporated elsewhere in the condo. MIREWORKSSomething that has resplendence is gorgeous in a grand and brilliant way. We were asked to design a kitchen that looked beautiful, accommodated large family gatherings, functioned as a cooks' kitchen should, and met a very real need for accessibility. Larger than normal space between cabinets was needed for wheel chair accessibility, as well as sinks that allow for roll up use. This design was accomplished by taking in the original carport, which had been replaced prior by a larger parking space (which can be seen through the windows in the keeping area). By adding white cabinetry to brighten the space, a warm and welcoming feel was achieved without overwhelming the pallet with dark stains. The results speak for themselves.
