Battle Associates, Architects
Cozy sitting area that opens to the screen porch, right on the water's edge, Rumford fireplace. This project was a Guest House for a long time Battle Associates Client. Smaller, smaller, smaller the owners kept saying about the guest cottage right on the water's edge. The result was an intimate, almost diminutive, two bedroom cottage for extended family visitors. White beadboard interiors and natural wood structure keep the house light and airy. The fold-away door to the screen porch allows the space to flow beautifully.

Hoedemaker Pfeiffer
This remodel of an architect’s Seattle bungalow goes beyond simple renovation. It starts with the idea that, once completed, the house should look as if had been built that way originally. At the same time, it recognizes that the way a house was built in 1926 is not for the way we live today. Architectural pop-outs serve as window seats or garden windows. The living room and dinning room have been opened up to create a larger, more flexible space for living and entertaining. The ceiling in the central vestibule was lifted up through the roof and topped with a skylight that provides daylight to the middle of the house. The broken-down garage in the back was transformed into a light-filled office space that the owner-architect refers to as the “studiolo.” Bosworth raised the roof of the stuidiolo by three feet, making the volume more generous, ensuring that light from the north would not be blocked by the neighboring house and trees, and improving the relationship between the studiolo and the house and courtyard.

Vintage Timberworks
A bright and airy feel was achieved in this beautiful living room by white washing the existing ceiling decking and painting the exposed beams white. The fireplace received a facelift by cladding the outdated stone with reclaimed Driftwood planking and a solid reclaimed Douglas fir mantel by Vintage Timberworks.
Cummings Architecture + Interiors
Situated on the edge of New Hampshire’s beautiful Lake Sunapee, this Craftsman-style shingle lake house peeks out from the towering pine trees that surround it. When the clients approached Cummings Architects, the lot consisted of 3 run-down buildings. The challenge was to create something that enhanced the property without overshadowing the landscape, while adhering to the strict zoning regulations that come with waterfront construction. The result is a design that encompassed all of the clients’ dreams and blends seamlessly into the gorgeous, forested lake-shore, as if the property was meant to have this house all along.
The ground floor of the main house is a spacious open concept that flows out to the stone patio area with fire pit. Wood flooring and natural fir bead-board ceilings pay homage to the trees and rugged landscape that surround the home. The gorgeous views are also captured in the upstairs living areas and third floor tower deck. The carriage house structure holds a cozy guest space with additional lake views, so that extended family and friends can all enjoy this vacation retreat together. Photo by Eric Roth

We added fresh and bright paint, some beautiful artwork, colorful pillows, custom upholstered chairs and ottoman and a ton of fun accessories to give this room some great character!

This is a hundred year old house that we restored to its former glory. We added the colonnade. One had existed previously, but been removed by previous owners.

This project began with an existing house of most humble beginnings and the final product really eclipsed the original structure. On a wonderful working farm with timber farming, horse barns and lots of large lakes and wild game the new layout enables a much fuller enjoyment of nature for this family and their friends. The look and feel is just as natural as its setting- stone and cedar shakes with lots of porches and as the owner likes to say, lots of space for animal heads on the wall!

This historic Ole Hansen house needed a full renovation and although the clients are on a budget, some paint and new furniture did wonders. We’ve turned this Spanish Mediterranean house into a bright livable space with new lighting, furniture and paint. A painted grey fireplace help anchor the living room that hosts a deep grey sofa, tree truck coffee table, and turkish rug.
