Knight Custom HomesA corroded pipe in the 2nd floor bathroom was the original prompt to begin extensive updates on this 109 year old heritage home in Elbow Park. This craftsman home was build in 1912 and consisted of scattered design ideas that lacked continuity. In order to steward the original character and design of this home while creating effective new layouts, we found ourselves faced with extensive challenges including electrical upgrades, flooring height differences, and wall changes. This home now features a timeless kitchen, site finished oak hardwood through out, 2 updated bathrooms, and a staircase relocation to improve traffic flow. The opportunity to repurpose exterior brick that was salvaged during a 1960 addition to the home provided charming new backsplash in the kitchen and walk in pantry.

In our design to combine the apartments, we centered the kitchen - making it a dividing line between private and public space; vastly expanding the storage and work surface area. We discovered an existing unused roof penetration to run a duct to vent out a powerful kitchen hood.
The original bathroom skylight now illuminates the central kitchen space. Without changing the standard skylight size, we gave it architectural scale by carving out the ceiling to maximize daylight.
Light now dances off the vaulted, sculptural angles of the ceiling to bathe the entire space in natural light.

Beautiful Habitat: Design & DecorationThe overall vision for the kitchen is a modern, slightly edgy space that is still warm and inviting. As a designer, I like to push people out of their comfort zones. We’ve done that a few ways with this kitchen – Ebony and matte gray cabinets, mixing cabinet and countertop materials, and mixing metals.
We’ve all seen and done the white kitchen for the last 10 years. I wanted to demonstrate that a black kitchen is functional and dramatic and not the dark cave everyone fears.
To soften the black, we’ve incorporated organic elements like natural woods, handmade backsplash tiles, brass and the flowing, organic patterns of the fabrics.

Misiaszek Turpin pllc The 7,600 square-foot residence was designed for large, memorable gatherings of family and friends at the lake, as well as creating private spaces for smaller family gatherings. Keeping in dialogue with the surrounding site, a palette of natural materials and finishes was selected to provide a classic backdrop for all activities, bringing importance to the adjoining environment.
In optimizing the views of the lake and developing a strategy to maximize natural ventilation, an ideal, open-concept living scheme was implemented. The kitchen, dining room, living room and screened porch are connected, allowing for the large family gatherings to take place inside, should the weather not cooperate. Two main level master suites remain private from the rest of the program; yet provide a complete sense of incorporation. Bringing the natural finishes to the interior of the residence, provided the opportunity for unique focal points that complement the stunning stone fireplace and timber trusses.

Woodhaven RenovationsFor this black and white Scandinavian style kitchen we wanted to make a bold statement by using matte black for majority of the kitchen cabinets. The large 42" wide range hood was custom designed and crafted by us and lacquered the same colour as the upper cabinets. The 6x8 subway tile and pure white quartz create the horizon. We decided on black soapstone countertop for the island for a more subtle but amazing feature. The natural oak floor brings in the warmth and to finish it off we used these large dome pendants for the wow factor and bronze hardware to give it some bling.
Chervin Kitchen & Bath Inc.Step into this charming cottage kitchen reimagined with a contemporary twist. At the heart of the room sits a modern sink with clean lines and black hardware, offering both style and functionality. Flanking the sink are green flat-panel cabinets, adding a pop of colour to the space. The cabinets feature a minimalist design and sleek hardware in a coordinating finish, creating a cohesive look.
Moore House DesignIn a full-scale design, renovation, and furnishings project, we completely transformed this space for our clients by infusing it with only the most charming of details. The first-floor expanded kitchen features smoky black cabinetry and textural brick walls, while the second-floor main suite boasts incredibly well-appointed built-in closets that add extensive storage all while incorporating sleek colonial-inspired character back into the space.
The overall scope of this project required a hefty, multi-floor, full gut “floverhaul” i.e., the overhaul of a home’s floor plan with attention to spatial flow and in this case storage. The areas we renovated head-to-toe in order to transform this house into our clients’ dream home include the kitchen, entryway, pantry, mudroom, and main suite.
