a more substantial sconce by the front door means making your (cool new) house numbers go horizontal. this shows a letter box too - which is not necessary (though may be useful if you have people drop things off at your house on the regular. :) Also this link goes to Rejuvenation, but I would suggest you have new numbers made locally by Moda Industria! NM: Yes, yes yes.
SY: Q: are you replacing your front door or keeping? If you are replacing, will you keep the sidelights and single door? Do you dream of a double door? Talk to me about the door. :) NM: I'd really like a new door like this one. I just need windows to let some light in. SY: ooh you're speedy today, thank you!
SY: This looks a little truer to the color on the green house. I like this, but am inclined to try Norman and Matilda first for you. Thoughts? BM: I actually really like this, I could imagine something like this with bright colored accents (bright red front door, more flowers in the landscaping), but I'm not sure it'd work well on our house. Still Norman and Matilda are ahead for me. SY: agree completely
SY: dark green board and batten with black windows - not too shabby SY: bringing this up to the top for your feedback? This is one of my top three - a bluer dark green than the one you posted below. Some wood elements would help this too - maybe inside porch... (Let's call this scheme LUCY.) NM: I do like, but, I'm not sure the windows will be changed anytime soon so I worry about that. SY: got it, and sort of prefer Norman anyway for you... BM: Agree all around.
SY: dark (blueish) gray + brown (or wood) trim...? This is sweet and unexpected. The more I look at it the more I like it, TBH. It's in my top 3, which I will name for easy reference. (Let's call this scheme NORMAN.) NM: yeah, one of the top 3. I could see this. BM: I was initially uneasy about black, but I'm *loving* the Norman scheme. SY: YAY! We have two winners to try: Matilda (Red, not purple) and Norman it is.
SY: took a walk on the near west side last night, where the houses are so darling and colorful. This rich purple color with cream trim was gorgeous amid the greenery around it. This is a variation on Matilda, in my mind. This color might look awesome with all the trees and in the context of your neighborhood. Thoughts?
SY: A Matilda from the near west side from my walk last night - but with yellow. I think I'd do cream for you guys. But this is lovely. BM: There's a really nice Matilda at the corner of Rock Creek Drive and Hawksmoore Drive in Renwick. I've been wanting to get over there to take a picture, but I've had my hands too full. Do you know that house? SY: not off the top of my head but I will look for it!
SY: near west side Matilda BM: I really like Matilda, and I like cream > yellow. I like the exposed beams around the porch; kinda like gable brackets :) SY: agreed on that architectural element, BM. I'll look into whether we could achieve that or other architectural detailing like you're drawn towards.
SY: just to be clear: we are staying away from blue bc of the neighbors' house, right? This is sweet. NM: sweet indeed, much like neighbors but with a little more green. SY: I think we have enough other variants we like that we can just nix blue. Agreed? NM: yeah. Would've totally leaned in to blue if neighbors weren't blue.
SY: I think I like your coral/light reddish and dark gray/green options better than navy. But here is navy. NM: neighbors are too close to navy I think, but I do think this is gorgeous. SY: good to know, ok! BM agrees
SY: a deep blue-green is charming too - too close the neighbors? We can drain the blue. And maybe do cream instead of white accents. And as you don't have brick, we'd add some wood for warmth/contrast. NM: I like a deep blue/green, but definitely don't want to be too much like the neighbors. Like the wood idea too.
SY: sage green with dark green and a bit of cream... and some wood too (porch roof). NM: We had this color scheme at our last house. Feeling something different? But maybe. SY: good to know! I think we're all more excited about the options above. BM: BUT-- I do want to express wild enthusiasm for the cedar (or honey oak, or whatever) ceiling under the porch. I think that would be an excellent addition to the Norman! SY: 100%
BM: I think I like the black siding the most when there're prominent wood or light stone accents NM: I could get on board with dark siding with wood accents. SY: pretty. Got it. And yes, a bit of relief is nice.
BM: I don't love shingles for siding, but I can dig dark brown siding with white trim. NM: I don't think dark brown would be my choice.
BM; shared this photo. NM: This makes me feel tired. SY: lol BM: Houses are for sleeping? :)
BM: Still thinking about different reds. NM: OK. SY: oh, there's an idea. I prefer the one a few pictures down that Niki thinks is gorgeous. BM: Good to know!
BM: I think I have a strong attraction to gable brackets. NM: I like this house, but not sure if our home would look so sweet not being a bungalow. SY: interesting about the gable brackets... And I do like the siding style - board and batten. Thoughts on that? (And/or the metal roof?) BM: Funny -- I wasn't paying much attention to the house because I was so distracted by the gable bracket effect. I don't think I'm into a white house. I don't mind board and batten though! And metal roof is all good with me.
Dark red or dark brown? SY: I mean, maybe. Not what my gut is saying though.
BM: Not sure if this color palette is too dated? NM: is not impressed. SY: yeah, a bit meh to me. BM: Oalrighty then! SY: sorry, BM. :)
SY: love this effect! might be out of your budget.
BM: I think this looks a bit too raw for us. SY: lol. I may need to push you a bit. This is my favorite look.
SY: the black and white house at Nota & Woodbine. BM: Not really a fan on account of it being pretty plain, but if it had dark trim or color accents that might bring it together? SY: interesting! ok, I'd love to do more color.
