Nugent Design Build, LLC

I'm working on my 5th project with Nugent Design Build. Nugent has built us 3 houses and done 2 major addition/renovation projects. They do fantastic work, they have great design ideas, and they go to extraordinary lengths to come in on time and on budget. They never cut corners or compromise quality and they stand by their work. Our second house took just under 5 months from breaking ground to moving in and that house has been featured in the Delray home tour. We wouldn't even think about using another builder.

My husband and I hired Nugent Design Build to remodel a 90 year old waterfront cottage that had been through the flood Isabel in 2003 and had never dried out. Mold was a problem and County permitting for the larger renovation had become almost impossible. It was at that point we decided the tear down the existing structure and rebuild. We had no idea how to do it and what it entailed. In the near future, this was to become our retirement home, so we wanted a smaller square footage but wanted the feel of a home with an open floor plan, high ceilings and a distinctive style. I loved the indoor outdoor lifestyle too so that was high on the list as well. The house is on 250 feet of waterfront on a point so we wanted to take full advantage of that quality as well. Nugent DB is known for their quality waterfront homes. We saw first hand how they worked, as a neighbor of ours just completed their beautiful home. That is the reason we hired them. We had watched for over a year how they worked clean and organized taking great pains to deliver excellent craftsmanship. By the time we were ready to build, Nugent had hired a new architect, Alex Scott. He was the determining factor in the elegance and functionality of our home. We are so grateful for the quality of his design and his sensibilities. We worked together for over a year on the design, and the building our beautiful home. He listened and understood the” feeling” we wanted to achieve with our plans. He instructed and guided us through the process, we had many good discussions about style choices, product quality and product efficiency. We completed our home in Spring 2013, I still call Alex to ask questions about things that come up along the way. He always gives me time and is very patient with my questions. I really feel that he cares about us. His knowledge extends into so many of the moving parts of the house including plumbing, appliances, etc. There are very few things about the house that he doesn’t know. To a person, everyone who comes to our home, says it is one of the most beautiful homes that they’ve ever seen. We agree. We love John Nugent the boss and Alex the architect, they are like part of our family.

We interviewed several firms for our 3-story home addition. We chose Nugent for a few reasons. One, they don't beat around the bush. They are honest and work hard to stay within budget. In fact, we have several meetings before any type decision was made or money was exchanged to be sure the project could be done to both parties satisfaction. Two, as a design/build firm, it was so much easier to keep track of who is in charge of what and where accountability is. There's only one person managing your project... so it is super easy with Nugent to get answers and attention. Three, Alex, Nick, John and the entire Nugent team are so patient and talk to homeowners like equals. There weren't any terms that were over my head, and the design team was so good about walking us through every little step so that we were comfortable. Four, they got the job done on time and within the timeframe they quoted us for. These guys really know what they are doing. I can't wait to build my next house with them! I will say that Nugent is not the cheapest design build firm. But their craftsmanship is great, and they stand by their work. We look forward to our one-year check in with them!
