“We were beyond lucky to find and choose O’Hana Art Environments to redo the front of our house. We live on Balboa Island in a 1930 Montery-style home. Our front yard is large (bigger than standard Balboa Island size) and was a real hodgepodge of giant tree, old flagstone and unknown half-dead potted plants. When I first met with Chris (the owner of O’Hana), I have to admit we had no idea what we wanted to do, we only knew we wanted to do something including removal of the big old tree. We only knew we wanted a really beautiful front. Chris was unfazed by our lack of our own design ideas (“oh we could put a planter here or a tree or maybe a pot or something like that”) or plants (“well, something maybe tallish that gives privacy and is pretty all year”). After briefly talking with us, he had some alternative stunning visions and ideas. He offered his ideas as suggestions and guidance, never the pushy “do it my way–I’m expert” and were hooked. We were hooked on his approach and careful listening to what little ideas we did have as well as his design creativity, planting depth and knowledge. Within weeks, he had a terrific design for our review. We made no changes. It was (is) magnificent. He and his team (with whom he has worked with for 20 years and who have nothing but wonderful things to say about Chris) went to work. The front was completely taken out/down and within weeks, we had a glorious travertine front with Mexican tile, wonderful stone work, gorgeous plants, huge garden areas, big planters, a separate tranquility garden, and lots of sitting space. Reasonably priced and within budget. We have since changed our life pattern to now sitting in our front yard as much as possible and without exception every person who walks by (of which there are many on Balboa Island) we get compliments ranging from “really pretty” to the “best garden on the island “or “how to do I get this”. Chris and his team were thoughtful, courteous, efficient, and our immense pleasure to have working on our house. Obviously, I cannot speak highly enough of Chris and his creativity and design style, use of tile and stone, and amazing plantings. You must come to see it yourself !
